    Sometimes I feel grateful listening to this man's music and the way he opens his heart, so bluntly. It's really not an easy thing to do, even with people you're close to so I can't imagine doing it on a track that will be listened to and, in the case of BTS, analyzed by millions. I just love him. Man... BTS' rapline is so insane because the three of them are so different but complementary.

    Yoongi adressed this friend first time in his verse in BTS' Spring Day song, The Queen as we ARMY call her, or Zombie song that never dies as Yoongi said (still in Korean charts while being released in 2017). He used some similar words in it. His emotions perfectly suited song's mood and message.

    I don't think there's a person who doesn't relate to one or another thing in yoongi's music. it's the magic of his unfiltered honesty

    Oh, SUGA (Yoongi!!!) plays piano beautifully, and he loves Ghibli and Ryuichi Sakamoto, and I can picture him writing some OST in the near future, if he hasn't done already and we are just waiting for the drop O_O
    He did remix Over the horizon (Samsung ringtone) and he did an OST for a webtoon with JK named Stay Alive :)

    Yeah this is exacly what makes BTS so loved; sure they make good music but the biggest thing is that their music is relatable no matter what kind of person you are because they are all so different between each other and they have also grown and changed as people over the years so you can always find a song of theirs that fits the stage of your life that you are in and that describes how you are feeling into a song.

    This is a heartbreaking song for sure. Out of the rapline, Suga's my favorite. He puts so much emotion into his songs, and his lyrics has a way to tug at your heart.
    I can't wait for his upcoming album. He says he wants to try new genres, so I wonder if it's gonna be like "Indigo". And he's said that he's happier now, so I'm curious about the topics that he'll talk about.
    So far the three members who have released solo work in this Chapter 2 has gone above and beyond expectations.
    J-hope said he wanted to explore his dark side, and he went and gave us the grittier sound in "Jack in the Box", with a look at the darker sides of society and of his inner psyche.
    Jin gave us "The Astronaut", a goodbye-for-now song into which he poured his love for ARMY, a true love letter.
    RM said his album would be completely different from "mono" and it was all over the place musically. And he gave us "Indigo", a pleasure trip through the genres with a surprise at every turn, accompanied by his masterful lyrics as always.
    I'm so excited for the upcoming albums from all of the other four members.

    The way this man Yoongi or Suga or Agust D writes his songs... it makes something in me crumble every time. We may not speak one language, but his creations speak volumes for him, so we can understand.
    I remember my first time listening to First Love (Suga's solo song from BTS' album Wings) with lyrics. I cried rivers bc of how deep and raw he delivered his experience with something so abstract (no spoilers lol). We call him genius for a reason 🙃
    P.s. also i'm not an expert on music, but txt's (tomorrow x together) discography may be a pleasant surprise for you, it's a young kpop group, label mates with bts

    If you need to cry (or cry on the inside, you know - tears don't always come for some of us) one day, I hope you put this on and let it out.
    His lyrics and complete honesty in delivery, you don't get much more real and in touch with life than that.
    I checked out NELL because of RM and SUGA, and their lyrics are very healing and relatable too. Plus, the singer's voice, PLEASE.

    • @Jurnalist_
      @Jurnalist_  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Maybe one day I will let out more tears than I do now. This would be a song I could see helping that process.

  • @Ana-id6uk
    @Ana-id6uk ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I believe I promised you a rundown on NELL. They are another popular indie artist in Korea, RM previously said that he looked up to NELL and Aeon a lot because they taught him that sad music can heal sorrows, so that can give you the indication of the vibe. NELL is an alternative rock band, they started off completely independent, but later signed to a small label that is connected to Seo Taiji (I think he had a label, and this was a subsidiary). Now that I am looking back, SUGA does not talk a lot about his collabs, the collabs talk about him lol. That is how we get most information. Unlike RM, who really shares why he chose someone, how he contacted them, the whole process. AND THEN we hear from the collabs too.
    I actually always cry to this song, including during your reaction, and I do not have a story that corresponds to it like you do. It pulls on my heartstrings as it is. Is it the nonchalant way he says it like you pointed out? I am not sure. Maybe it is the fact that it is a story about a friendship. I am not big on love songs, but friendship songs like this are a killer, and much more rare.
    Okay, final fun fact. JK often does vocal guides for bts songs right. Well it seems that he also does vocal guides for the other members' solos cause SUGA played us the demo of Dear My Friend with JK's vocals on it that he was sending over. Just something that I really appreciated knowing, them helping each other out. Once you get to the vocalists, you'll understand why JK is everywhere.

    This friend but also others he grew up with who ended up losing things to drugs has made himself strongly come out in many songs about “pill poppers” etc. I’ve lost enough people to drinking or drugs that I feel how weary he is and the song is longing but also frustrated and I deeply get that. So damn deeply, it’s why I find him the most deeply relatable because of the complexity of emotions he shares in the music he makes.

    Dear My Friend is tied with People as my favorite song on this project. I’m sorry to hear that you can relate to the lyrics, but hope having this song in your life now can help a bit. That’s what music is for, after all. I loved hearing your thoughts on how you would have produced this differently! I could really picture that version in my head, it would have been beautiful too.
    I love how yoongi structured this album, it feels like we’re pulling back part of his persona layer by layer. Starting with Moonlight as a reflection of where he is as Agust D 4 years after his first mixtape, then Daechwita and What do you think as flexing his skills and fame as a rapper and worldwide superstar “BTS Suga”, going into political and social discussions in the middle songs (Strange, People…) and then revealing his personal fears and wants and memories as Min Yoongi in the last three songs. Just one of the interpretations of how I take it listening all the way through in order.
    I can’t wait to see what his solo album he’s releasing is gonna be like.

  • @yasminesb7947
    @yasminesb7947 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    I love this track, I love the vulnerability and authenticity you feel through the lyrics and Yoongi's flow, the right tone, the way he says "Dear My Friend" with his almost hoarse voice is so touching.
    I grew up in a small town near the desert, my father grew up during the war and had to drop out of school as a child to help support his siblings when he was the youngest, he bought pastries cheaply and then went to sell them on the street, as a teenager he was apprenticed to the colonizers which helped him once the country gained its independence to settle down and have a good situation, and that allowed us his children to grow up without lacking anything, but in this small town where I grew up, there was poverty all around, my best friends didn't have the same means as me (even if I never had pocket money, my father wanted us to earn it against a job he gave us to do). . When I was little with my friends we were not aware of this notion of social classes but when I grew up I was able to go to university, but some of them did not. So we parted ways during the school year, and every time I came back for the vacations each one of us had changed a little more, until our reunion consisted in an awkward silence and at the same time the desire to say so many things... I hated that time brought us to have different paths in heart and in life.
    I know that in the hiphop community, this kind of story exists but I do not remember an artist who shared his experience in his lyrics.. Maybe you know... Anyway, I love this song and you're right he could have made the end with the piano more poignant, but perhaps out of respect for this friend he lost and to whom he addressed this message he avoided that it was too teary.. The fact that he put that title at the end proves how difficult it must have been for him to record it. One thing is sure, no one should blame himself for the wrong path that some people can take, Yoongi should not say "if I had stopped you", it is not his fault but I can understand it.

    Suga really has a way of writing songs that really hurt.. His lyrics are often quite straightforward, but they hold so much human emotion and experience, that it's difficult not to relate. Every time I listen to Dear My Friend, my heart really breaks for him.. That love that coexists with resentment.. Sorry to hear that you've had a similar experience.. I can only imagine how hard that would be..
    What makes a lot of Suga's music so special is how he really bares his heart and that gives his music this really raw and vulnerable feeling.. It's to the point that some of the first songs of theirs that really ensured that I was in this Bangtan shit for life, were his. I remember listening to his song First Love off the BTS album Wings. It resonated so strongly with me, my eyes thought they were waterfalls. It evoked such a visceral reaction even though I hadn't read the lyrics at that point. And once I read it, I was so moved by the way he felt because I could really relate to him.. I swear, I love the genius that is Min Yoongi... I think he is extremely brave and honest..
    Really looking forward to his next album.. He seems happier these days, so I wonder what his music will be like.. He has insane range when you consider all the music projects he has involved himself in. Really believe that there's nothing he can't do 😊😊

    based on ur commentary i feel like you would really like the song ‘so far away’ from his previous mixtape so im looking forward to when you get to that :)
    its one of my favorite songs as it speaks thoughts that i struggled to formulate and actualize into simple, beautiful existence.
    after you listen to “so far away” tho you should also check out another version of the song only released on soundcloud with different production (more strings and acoustic) and the feature swapped out for Jungkook and Jin. that version brings on a different level of emotion from me. maybe because i connect more emotionally to jin and jungkook vocals than suran (the original feature who im unfamiliar with). but both versions are amazing.

    One of my fave song and this is gut wrenching for me the first time I heard it. So much that resonates and that's what I love with Yoongi or Suga / Agust D.
    Not taking away from him but his works as a soloist and as a group member of BTS are polar opposites in a way but synergistically works.
    And this kind of dynamics in a group made me all the more excited of what is to come for BTS.
    Considering this is just a tip of iceberg for Yoongi since his official solo album is not yet released.

  • @philomenebour780

    Suga/Agust D use music to express himself. When I first get into BTS I didn’t know much about Suga as he was always so quiet and and so shy on tv show as an introvert he is. He seems so different on stage and off stage he has so much charisma on stage and I like the way he rap. I wanted to learn more about him so I listen to his solo songs. Songs like «the last » or « first love » and a lot more turn me into a BTS fan. There so much emotions into his lyrics and the way he rap it’s like you can feel his emotions and can relate to him. Some Armies say Suga rap with his soul and RM rap with his brain( because he always use poetry and word play in his lyrics). So the only way to learn about Suga is to listen to his music he talk a lot about himself in his solo’s songs. I can’t wait for his album and also excited about the vocal line albums. It’s going to be a year full of emotions for Armies. Enjoy your journey into the BTS rabbit hole there is a lot to digest 😅

    I cried watching you react to this. I'm thankful I can't relate to this song in quite so personal a manner as you, but I felt what you felt listening to a song that spoke directly to your heart and soul. "Paradise" was that song for me. It's a little-known but much-loved BTS b-side. It got me crying in my kitchen at 3am in the morning (I hope you check it it out one day, I think you'd like it too.) I connect with so many of Suga/AgustD's songs on a personal level. I relate so profoundly with Yoongi's struggle with his shadow (the shadow as Carl Jung defines it.) He helped me confront my obsessive need for accomplishment and validation, and showed me how that was strangling me and preventing me from living a happy life. Even if you're not the type to cry in public, you still shared some deeply personal stuff with us. Thanks Jurnalist.

    I can respect that you prefer to hold your emotions close to your chest, but at the same time I hope you can find the strength that lies in sharing with others who you really are in the moment by allowing your feelings to come forth.... One thing that allows BTS' fans to feel so close to the members is that they have all freely shared their emotions with ARMY on multiple occasions: Jin and V broke down at an awards show when they revealed they had considered disbanding in 2018; Suga sobbed at an awards show when they won their first 'daesang' (grand prize; Artist of the Year, 2016); RM trying to talk through his tears just last year when the group announced their hiatus to focus on solo projects; Jungkook on MULTIPLE occasions; Jimin at Wembley; JHope diving uncontrollably when getting a surprise birthday greeting from his family he hadn't seen in a long time -- we're all human!
    Anyway, sorry for the length already but I also wanted to talk about something related to your comments on how you'd have recorded the song differently - Suga was asked which song of his he'd like to go back and 'fix' or that he had 'regrets' over and I thought his answer was wise: he said (I'm paraphrasing) "None. Because each song, and even the regrets about a song, are a part of the learning process". 💜

    I’ve been anticipating your reaction to this song. Dear My Friend and Set Me Free are my favourite songs on this album. I’m a sucker for music that invites the audience (me) into the artists life and their experiences. This song really showcases how vulnerable Suga can get through music.
    Plus when I first read the translation the saying/proverb that immediately stuck to my mind was ” Music is a universal language.” Because I would have never thought that I’d hear a Korean man speaking about his mate in jail and relate to it as a South African black girl, it reminded me of some people who I know who ended up in prison.

    I think that the reason his songs resonate with me a bit more even if I don't have the same experience is that he makes his own beats and he makes them to fit his exact emotion. Agust'd first mixtape is really really raw, super angry but very raw with that underground feel. It'll be interesting to hear your thoughts. RM's was kinda angry too now that I think about it.

    • @user-vv7hc7kb5o
      @user-vv7hc7kb5o ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah Joon and Yoongi had a lot going on during those years so it's not surprising that some songs off of their first solo projects had an angry sound and delivery to them. they had a lot to prove (at least that's what they thought they had to do to an extent, even though if u ask me all those nobodies who doubted them and gave them a hard time should have minded their business seeing as they haven't advanced in their careers at all. yoongi, Joon and the tannies were always better than them as musicians and people) and a lot to say and just get off of their chests so I know why it was necessary for them to get their feelings out in the form of lyrics/music and because of those moments, experiences, feelings, thoughts we got some amazing music that so many years later still speaks to millions of ppl all over the world.
      I know they helped me countless of times and I'm grateful but at the same time I still wish they hadn't gone through any of it and the world was a bit kinder to them back then. they were all still in their teens/late teens which many don't rly realize and give more thought to. so I admire how strong they are and how good they r and I'm just glad that they r in a happier place overall in the last couple of years.
      And yeah I'm sure they have bad days as well and that's fine too but I wish more happiness for them and laughter in their life. yoongi doesn't feel that all consuming anger as he said back when D-2 released and has said it doesn't serve him any use anymore that at some point u have to let it go and draw artistic inspiration from different parts of urself and different emotions. And Joon tells us his stories, makes the music and explores the genres he wants to do while constantly evolving always eager to learn more always eager to expand his horizons. I can say so much more about namgi and even dive in on the rest of the tannies but I'm gonna stop here 🙈

    you: I will probably cry in this part
    me: crying and I don't know somone in jail
    Like I said before Namjoon is my favorite songwriter but Yoongi deliver his feelings in his solo songs, it is something I really can't handle without criying. I still cry everytime I see a video of him perfoming Fisrt Love(the song is about his love for music in the shape of the brown piano, he learned to play it when he was a kid)

    Yay! Fave twinsies! ^^
    I'm so glad you liked this one so much as I do. I mean, everyone has their own experiences and opinion and like different things, but when someone likes the ones I like, then I feel content :D
    The storytelling, while keeping the cadences and rhymes flowing, different pockets here and there.
    I saw you stopping at the tofu line. Again, not sure how much you know but this is common in JP, CN movies as well, when someone goes out of jail, the person/people welcoming them back to society bring white (pure, clean) tofu as a symbol + it's nutritious sometimes compared to food in jail.
    As they (all 3) like to reuse (re framing, recalibrating, reformulating) sentences and patterns, this song ties with Spring Break and Fake Love (both OT7 songs).

      His friend didn't love him, probably saying he changed when he refused to do drugs like him, maybe bc before he was more adventurous (?) aka mold himself to hang out with his friend (?). Fake love.
      When he already dipped his toes on the "you changed! No, you did!" in Spring Day 😊 "I hate you, I miss you"

    I think this song is a about a former big hit trainee who left the company. Some of the original rap recruits didn't want to become idols. Many still tried to become rappers but several were bitter as bts succeed. One former recruit was even arrested for drugs. I suspect this song is very real to yoongi to see a friend fail when you succeed. There is a sad ending because the person I think this is about was found dead in 2020 under mysterious circumstances. How it must hurt that not even your friendship could save some one you cared about.

    • @Ana-id6uk
      @Ana-id6uk ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't think this song is about Iron, the guy you're mentioning. He came in after RM, he might have been one of RM's acquaintances from the underground scene. And he did not seem like a good person, domestic violence and other violent charges as well. He did end up in jail for drugs once - but aside from the drugs involvement, there is no other connection. Yoongi is talking about someone he knew from Daegu, and he came to Seoul alone.
      It would also be inappropriate to release this album in May 2020 if that were true, since Iron passed away earlier that year.
      P.S. Should I censor the name like you?

    • @christinakulp5259
      @christinakulp5259 ปีที่แล้ว

      You might be right but I read an article saying yoongi was one of the few people who would visit him in jail. We are just guessing but the senti in the song is very real. The name is your call. It is public record.

    Dear My Friend is so relatable and personal. We miss our friends and our past, and we may regret.
    But still, we would never know what if we chose a different way, would it be better for us, bc there’s never IF. Regrets don’t change the past.

    I would put it this way, RM works your brain with his word play, energized your brain. Suga (Yoongi/Adust D) works your heart to have feeling once have lost. Hobie work your path to once again connect your heart and brain to realize rational and emotional not necessary seperated.

    I can see why you would do end like this hmm, but I think bc it is quiet obvious way to end emotional song like this, it was done this way, with slow end like letting go and one last line and piano. I think it is fitting for end of mixtape and for this song. Like song fade slowly and there is no high voice or voice alone bc of the theme of song, bc he dosen't need this higher emotions, like it was enough for him. He said what he wanted and all go back to memories with last thought 'would it be different?ah'. This is how I see it.
    This is my favorite mixtape from BTS members, if we talk about solo stuff, Suga's always is my favorite bc I relate to him, like you in this song. And I think it is important when you hear something and you are like "Yes, this is exaclly how a feel/think", it really gives music life when people can feel it their souls, so yeah. But I really like "Indigo" it is really great album, great featers, and really got up there for me but it is still lower then D-2 on my list. I love Jhope but musicaly I connect the least with him.
    So my list looks like: 1.D-2, 2.Indigo, 3.Agust D, 4.Mono, 5.Jack in the box, 5.RM, 5.Hope World. (Yes last 3 have the same place hehe, I have similar feeling for them). And it dosen't mean of course that some are worst or bad, no it is simply preference, and what I play most. What feelings it gives off and what I want to feel.
    Yeah I had great time with you listen to all 3 albums, so I for sure will be back for more.

    I hear you, J: As an Army Mom (from a tiny West Indian Island) who discovered them since '16. Frankly speaking: You just discovered our boys. Matter of months. Not yrs. Interested in your vids and putting a spot light on their struggles etc. Enjoy going down 'YOUR Rabbit Hole'..Watching your perspective/opinion etc. Am curious. Why do you not feel the need to now check/comment on any of their Videograpy from 2013 - 2022? So you understand ( by now).....why our Boys got to be....where they are? Why not comment on their Vids or MMAs 2018/2019/2020 etc. Like Dude: You are DIFFERENT. While you are NOTHING like YT's TOP BTS reactioners with bases/followers in the millions? And they're been to several BTS concerts or met them live? You have something to say. Heard. Bored of your present format. So you admire n respect them. HEARD. Truthfully? WE've already heard the vids you choose to 'comment' on them (a million times). Over it. Given your competion on YT? Love your passion but done. Would love to see you change up your format in here. Just my humble opinion. And start commenting on their vids/dance moves/lyrics/vid production/storyline etc....otherwise? Liked your content.....am bored. time for a switch up. No? Your choice. WE've seen you BTS commentators/reactioners......either make it to a million followers in here. Or die a silent death into Obscurity. Either way....we 💜💜You...J. Edit : Why not not react to JHOPE's performance at LOLLYOPOLOOZA . NicknameD JHOPOLLOZA.............as he KILLED IT as the first BTS member at a major 'Murican Music Fest.......alone. Jimin flew in to be with him and was behind stage...DANCING HIS ASS OFF and offering support etc.....WHY NOT COMMENT ON THAT? You 'Murican BTS reactioners kill us Army.... Done. 🤣🤣
