    It's funny because despite I'm Brazillian and I don't speak Italian at all, I could understand everything the Italian girl said in Kage Bushin No Jutso. She said something like: "Tecnica Superiore de Multiplicazione de corpo" (sorry if it's not correctly spelled, but I don't know Italian!!), which in portuguese would be: "Técnica Superior de Multiplicação de Corpo" and in English translates to: "Superior Technique of Body Multiplication"

    In the French dub, it is "Uchiwa". Perhaps she watched it with subs (like most of us did anyway). And the western name formula is used instead of the Japanese one: Sasuke Uchiwa (so firstname first and then family name second).

    The reason why the Brazilian pronounciation seems similar to the Japanese is beacuse of the influence that the fansubs of Naruto had on the dubbing process. When Naruto was dubbed in Brazil (in 2007), it was already a HUGE success as fansub, which means that the Brazilian anime community was already aquainted with the Japanese pronounciation. The people in charge of the dub knew they had to be much closer than normal in terms of pronounciation, to not alienate the fans that followed the fansubs. Before Naruto, most dubs would adapt at least the pronounciation, and names like "Goku", "Yusuke", "Agome" (this particular case the spelling was changed as well) and "Sakura" (from Card Captor Sakura) where all adapted in terms of pronounciations, just to give some examples. In other cases the entire name was changed, for example Dai from Dragon Quest became "Fly" here, and most Sailor Moon characters have a different name (like Usagi, known as "Serena" here). Since Naruto things changed, and nowadays the dubs tend to be much closer to the Japanese pronounciation, only changing something when absolutely necessary.

    I wonder if the Brazilian pronunciation being the one more similar to the Japanese one is somehow related to Brazil having the largest settlement of Japanese people outside of Japan.

    • @Omouja

      It kinda does. Brazilians in general loves japanese culture, so anime was and is a very popular thing here, so with the japanese immigration, they brought a lot of their culture, and we were exposed to the "real" pronunciation, so we kinda try to pronounce close to original, because it kinda became a tradition to pronounce it in the original way among the japanese descendents (their are the ones who spread this culture here), but that's not a rule, a lot of people "Brazilianized" japanese names.

    • @brendalima5292

      The japanese settlement in Brazil in very concentrated in one area, very few people have contact with them. It just happens that Portuguese and Japanese have a lot of the same sounds, so if you ask a brazilian person who knows nothing of japanese to read a japanese word, if they just read it exactly like we would read it in portuguese, it would most likely have the same sounds, perhaps just the stress syllable would be wrong

    • @SenaHawe

      Nah, my grandmother would pronunce that way and she didn't even know there were japanese people in Brazil.
      it's just the way it is, people from São Paulo seem to be way to much fixated with this japanese influence, but it's the same everywhere, many people here don't even know that there is so many japanese people.

    i think in indonesia we reverse the name of naruto, we twist the order just a bit like "naruto uzumaki" not "uzumaki naruto" cause "uzumaki naruto" it is japanese not the indonesian on. if it become the indonesian one then the order changed become "naruto uzumaki"

    Brazilians had this whole discussion in the past on how "Tsunade" should be pronunced, because some people started to push that it should be pronounced as Tsu-NEI-de (nˌeɪ), which just sounds stupid and wrong. And it's indeed wrong.
    Some people in Brazil also pronnounce "Oroshimaru". Those are the minority, though.

    Fun fact: U can call Indonesia the "Republic of Konoha".. Sometimes we use Konoha as a satire on Indonesian politics.. This is because maybe some of Indonesia's political realities are similar to Konoha.. We also use Wakanda or Wkwkland as satire.. Because when Indonesians laugh online we always use the word "wkwkwk".. So, Wakanda or Wkwkland means "The land of Wkwkwk"..
