If foams weren't a chore to change over I would suggest trying the Proline single stage closed cell to get that climb it wouldn't hook on... the blue foam is a little larger than what the dual stage inner is,.but as there is no outer foam it leaves that air, or clearance gap for the tyre tread ripple and conform. I have them in my heavy Trx4 defender with g8 Flat Irons and they work great. I use the Dual stage P/L's in my lighter trucks. It was good to see you the test process once again.. As always thanks for the effort you put in for us Joe.. Cheers mate 👍
I've done what you said before, a bit differently. I had Ottsix KLRs stretched onto 2.2 wheels, the stretch along with just the inner foams of the CI 4.75 foams worked well and had that gap you mentioned. It worked out well.
It all depends on what you are wanting to do.... I built an axial super lite and ran 2 stage CI/ soft outer in the rear and soft single stage in the front. It climbs like a dream. It's all in what your wanting the truck to do...to many variables. Great video joe, you put alot of time into this and its appreciated my friend.
So very good video. I just want to say that I have these tires owned them for almost as long as they've been out. I have the G8 compound and the tires are broken in very well. I have the stock foams in them as well. Ive noticed that when I first had them they weren't to good, but once broken in they hook up like glue on everything. I WAS going to get the proline foams being my jk weighs about 12 to 13 pounds but it's more of a trial truck and doesn't always see big obstacles like you have and I think that's what these tires were more designed for "trailing". I forgot to mention my from beadlocks have weight in them as well so yes I do have tire roll BUT what 1:1 doesn't haha. Great video!
I might be mistaken... I think the proline dual stages are designed to fit their "XL" tires and are a bit big for standard 1.9s. I use them in a set of 1.9 flat iron XLs and love them.
yeah they could be. In the past, dealing with the Predator and other super soft compounds I've seen the smaller foams just not perform very well at all, if this were a much lighter truck, these would most likely just be way way too stiff but I have my hopes up
He just needs to break-in the foams of the dual stage.. Then he will deform the 1st stage easily to gain traction as the stock ones and get the benefits of the 2nd stage.
@@ExocagedRC not at all, I found it was the only thing that worked on a set of repurposed canyon trails tires. I also had the same problem with Proline foams in on my TRX-4 ended up using crawler innovations foams because the Proline foams are too tall for a lot of 1.9 tires and I just could not climb up obstacles with them..
If these aren't what you're looking for i would suggest Crawler Innovations dual stage. They offer a taller outer open cell and shorter inner closed cell, may allow for just enough tire curl while still keeping the sidewall from rolling too much.
Oh yeah I like the CI foams, I have several sets in different tires and they usually work out great. These will do well too I may have to vent the tires though
I have both the pro line and ottsix dual stages... I like the ottsix waterproof dual stages foams. The outter foam actually bolsters the firewall while the pro line leave slack in the sidewall. BTW, threw in the reefs 99micro and its amazing. zero issues getting into fwd, 4wd, or dig regardless of the load or position. beautiful.
My 10.III is pretty much setup the same as yours with all the Vitavon parts so also a bit heavy. I'm using the proline dualstage with Krawlers and they work great.

Surely using the Treal wheels it will alter how the foam works as it has pushed the centre ridge up thus changing how it works in the tyre. The only way you will know is to put the foams on a wheel that does not push up the centre of the closed cell foam.
My "Killer Wasp TRX4" felt really heavy. I was thinking 12 pounds..I mean...it has everything...remote lights, winch, drop-bed, interior, brass stuff(painted black)with all the D110 option. I weighed it...it was 9 pounds. I was surprised. Anyway...foams...I love Pro-line. Been using their stuff from the beginning. I even have some of their single stage foams. But I'll put most my money in foams to Crawler Innovation. They are the "originals" and everyone else is a "copy" and just trying to take a chunk out of the pie they did not create. I'll always buy body's and tires from Pro-line....I mean...I'm good friends with Paul from Pro-line an have been a "loyal" since 1989 but again.... loyalty has to have its place and the owner of CI put his heart into his single great product.
I have these in deep woods on my trx4 sport with pretty much ssd portal covers and that's it for weight. Once broken in they work like a dream. Some say they're too stiff, and they are a bit, but I think they're great with enough give for a solid tired footprint.
I have these in my trx6 with deep woods and ottsix dual stage foams in my Capra with duratrax showdown. The ottsix outter foam wraps around the inner which bolsters the sidewall. The Pro-Line doesn’t. The Pro-Line also moves around more on my beadlocks than the ottsix setup. Both work great and I have way more time on the Pro-Line, but I’m going to stick with ottsix going forward. Much better imho.
I discovered that an old 540 brushed motor can (magnet part, nothing else!), does exceptionally well on 1.9 beadlock inner wheels for assembly. I drilled a hole slightly bigger than the output bushing & it dont move when ur wiggling it or turning the wheel(s). That is IF anyone has a spare, junk green machine or paradox laying around!
I have only tried the PL foams and they do need some break in time for sure, then they work great. I would like to try some of the other brands mentioned for sure.
I like the PL Dual stage. I have the Boom Racing foams too and bought the hard inner, soft outers. The PL seems to split the difference on the inners between Booms hard and medium inners
the tire roll was my biggest problem on my trx4 with the DeepWoods/stock foams. my rear tires looked like drag tires under full load at the strip, even caused slight dmg to one of the tires
First give the foams a chance to break in, run the crap outta the 10.3 lol then try removing some wight from the rear or if possible adjusting that "squat" in the rear out. I noticed it when you first showed what the new set up looked like. Squatting like that when angled as you was in the hard climb at 10:45 makes the rear "dig" more...if you know what I mean. I think that's your biggest issue imho. You almost make me wanna try mounting my xspeed wheels agian lol but the only GOOD tires I have are my deepwoods and they are glued on plastic wheels. In theory I know they can be removed but if I screw up one more RC part I fear I may punt my rig into the cow pasture across the street lol
@@ExocagedRC I really think dialing in the suspension geometry now is all you need. With my redcat it used to "go turtle " if it even looked at a side hill 😁 but I stiffened up the back shocks a bit and angled the front at a / witch allowed them to be more nimble and yet the stiffer rear held the ground now instead of the turttle I call her the dirty b....well ya get me lol
I find or think that the 1.9 dual stage foams are to big for 4.75 tires. I think inside the 4.75 tires the outer foam is already slightly compressed only leaving approximately a 1/4" if that to be compressed while driving not allowing the tire to really conform to the terrain. I was about to throw them away but find them to work rather well in my jconcepts 4.92" tires. The slightly larger tires gives the outer foam the capability to full expand inside the tire while allowing the foam to conform enough over obstacles so that the tire can properly grab. Just my two cents would love to see you try that out on the SCX10 3 since it works great on my SCX10 II.

Awesome. I watched your anti foam video and then this popped up after. I have same rig and am waiting for my anti foams. They’re back ordered unfortunately.
Most of the time I do, with these foams you have to put a hole in the tire because the closed cell inner foam just seals up the hole for normal venting.
