I’ve been in RC probably 2x Brett’s age. I called all the big names tonight, either got hung up on, sent into an endless robot loop, or some other bs. Amain….picked up the phone. I normally price hunt and waste all kinds of time on little things, but these guys spent all the time I wanted talking to me. I’ve ordered lots of stuff from them throughout the years, but they just earned a hard core RC’er’s business for good. 5* awesome business!

Another important thing to do is set the steering end points; not doing so burns out your servo.
I like your comment about not using a compressor; back in my mountain bike racing days we avoided cleaning our bikes with a compressor as it can cram dirt into the bearings or other places that you don't want it...

All good information. Another tip that is a must. Look through your manual and read up on the maintenance intervals. Rc cars need regular servicing just like your real cars do. Diff fluids need to be replaced after so many runs so keep track of that. Also, be careful with lipo charging. Get yourself either a lipo bag or some flame proof container like an ammo can. Dont let your house catch on fire. And i wouldn’t recommend charging inside

Het Bret awesome info. But three things First thing is let Batteries cool Down, second thing always have extra Batteries with you. gives more time out and more fun for running. the third thing is check the battery for damage. this will save you a lot of issues. if they are damaged get new ones. Now this last thing i been doing this the r/c hobby for a long time. But for the last 15 plus years i charge my li-pos at full capacity and put them in the freezer. some i have had over 10 years or better some a little less old. but never have i had any issues with them. in fact a large group of us do it as well. At our lhs they do the same thing. I am down in the desert area where 115 is not uncommon to see. If you have heard of Ridgecrest then you know where we are. So keeping a cold battery is common. when we get them out. we let them sit for 20 mins to an hr. but usually by the time we get to the track or bashing spot the batteries are at temp. and pack as much of a punch as they usually do. the last thought i have for others. always make sure you clean the dust out. clean it good. we have a very dry dusty area. and micro rock and other sizes they get up inside and really do some damage to the insides of the r/c. I got a brand new truck every thing sealed. fun 1/6 scale truggy fun enjoyable. Maiden run today. I had so many tiny little rocks took me a while to get them all out. so i disconnected the fans took them out and blew the heck out of every thing. just as i thought i was done a few more would drop out so i hit it again. got it nice and cleaned out. but little tiny rocks are a real pain. so make sure you clean well. Thanks Brett love the tid bits

Protip I learned as a teen. Trucks with the fake roll cage in the bed of the truck behind the cab work great for holding bottle rockets. I would just lean them forward over the cab and could aim them and drive it away before they would go. Black cat is the only brand to mess with at least back then.
That was a store brand RC truck with a removable 4 AA battery pack. I loved that truck! We beat the crap out of it and it held up well. We even would drive it down the wood stairs lolol.
Disclaimer: This is strictly for adults who have the proper permit to use bottle rockets. Always follow local laws. This can be very dangerous.

This is age old common sense, but it is good practice to at least clean your r/c at the end of your session. I just picked up my first r/c in 10 years, and everything I use to do stayed with me. Consider I bought a used vehicle. If I didn't tear down the entire vehicle and regressed and lube all the mechanical components including suspension I wouldn't know what would happen the first time I take it out for a proper session. Considering I'm jumping huge dirt jumps I definitely needed to rebuild the entire vehicle. And because I did I had a great time with my kids out at the trails! Maintenance is key!

Hello Brett, you are an amazing person. Love your tips and tricks. love the way you talk about the hobby. it is great. but I have to disagree with you on the li-po batteries. I have dealt with them since they came out on the market so many long years ago. They were interesting to deal with. whole new way to handle and store and how to store. we learned the best way was to store at full charge. as we also pu8t them in the fridge and or the freezer. in so areas just open storing is bad as the heat gets to them makes the packs swell. and you can not use them any more. so you put them in the fridge or freezer keeps them safe and bring them out leave them 20 mins no issue full charge. some times if i need the with in a few mins. i put a top off charge on them. warms them up and i get full usage. I have been doing this since the late 90's early 2000 till now. not a once have i ever had an issue like you describe. if any thing i have been able to keep them longer. i have pack that are well over 10 years. and have a lot of use on them. still as strong as the day i got them and charged. if you like to meet up some time and see them. that be awesome. just let me know. but your info oin storing is wrong though. thank you have a great fun running chasing time with our favorite hobby.

You can remove the glow plug check piston is at bottom of the stroke.
Mark the flywheel with a marker pen or scrib flywheel .
I usually do it at the bottom so when you look under the car you can see the mark easily in the correct position .
Once done put the glo plug back in .
Every time you stop check the mark is in the same position to cool down.

If they sold compressors they would recommend them. 🤔 they sell canned air.

The possibility of blowing debris into your bearings goes way up when using an air compressor. It's not critical with bashers, but I'd avoid it with a proper race car.

@@AMain_Hobbies That's one reason why air compressors have pressure regulators, even the cheapest ones. Just turn the pressure down. You could even turn it down lower than a can of air would provide.

Do not run your race buggy through a puddle..XR10 stock ESC went up in smoke really fast.

RPM plastics will bend but most of time not break and brushless power systems have longer run time. You could upgrade the bearings to sealed bearings "fast eddies bearings" are awesome. Metal axles are great, MIP, HotRacing to name a few or if the brand of rc you bought has upgrades buy those cause it takes out the guess/research work to find what works and what does not. You could do none of that and just buy extra stock parts and just have fun. Almost forgot, you can buy a screw kit which changes all screws to the hex-head or "allan-head" screws that are waterproof.

An air compressor works much better than a can of air. Also using a small fan to dry the car completely works great!

Reminds me of when my best friend and I got into RC’s together 20 years ago. I got a Savage Truckzilla kitted monster and he got some Traxxas nitro 70+mph car. First run he slammed into my parked RC truck and it just exploded into dozens of pieces. He had to spend the next two month ls mowing lawns to buy all the parts to fix it. But at least he got to use my truck with me while he saved up. 😂😂😂

I haven't been in the rc game since 1995-ish, but getting an Arrma Vorteks 3x blx very soon. Coming from a 1993-ish vintage Losi XX buggy, these reminders are a godsend. Lol losi is for sale by the way. And also great video

@am12eaz93 pretty good. Broke a shock tower running into the tree in my yard like the second time out. Haven't been out in a little bit cuz of the heat but I have metal diff, spur gear and aluminum motor plate upgrades to install. Proline trenchers tires. It's running on ZEE 6000mah 8c batteries. The only issue I've been having is when I turn it on sometimes I have steering but no throttle. I've heard I only need to rebind the radio to it but I haven't had time to, let alone do the upgrades. It's a blast for sure tho and my dogs love it.

    Awesome advice!
I will add- don’t drive or fly your model near yourself or any other person or property. These things are not toys! They are downsized remotely controlled models of the real thing and they can and will hurt you in the same manner as the real full-size thing!
This should be the first lesson/video a kid hears before being turned loose with a RC car/truck. Definitely rules to live by in all things RC.
RC Aircraft need way more training but the same rules apply.
The second thing should be etiquette. Follow the rules to the T and if you mess up fess up!
I started out at around 11 or 12 years old learning how to fly RC planes. I had a really good teacher that taught me the basics and the dangers of the RC hobby world. I’m a back woods flyer/driver so I’ve never had to worry about busting through the neighbors window but there were times that I would have had to worry when I was starting out.
After 30 years of “playing” with these models I can definitely say be carful and keep yourself safe. Don’t let it bite you because it will if you give it the chance.
It’s fun. It’s expensive if you’re not a good pilot/driver or builder. But it’s fun so keep building!

Not only RC s but drones as well for turning on the remote first before the car/ drone . Them drones can lose signal while flying . Usually in the same area for me which I then know to avoid . The cars are my favorite though

But when I put it all back together. The front diff case seems very lose I've tried everything I opened up 5 times now but each time I pop it back is lose again when the car on the ground the back wheels spin around. But front wheels don't move or go around. So not sure what's going on any help would be fantastic cheers 😅😅😊

So... I bought my first RC off toy R us, ran it for a few hours, eventually hit a wall and broke the custom steering servo gears.
So instead of trying to find parts in a hobby shop I bought X2 Tamiya TT02's to put together, where I'll eventually end up in a hobby shop, to buy my first battery, esc, controller and servos.

Dont let someone asking to "try" who never drove rc before. I gave the remote to this dude who was admiring and watching me, he went full speed straight into the sidewalk curb and my rc car got destroyed. These new remotes come with partial throttle limit switches now, wish i had that at the time.

My number 1 is learning that you dont have to go full throttle and full turn on a good rc, i cringe when i hand over a transmitter to someone because of that XD like dont break my diffs slamming that throttle
