    Hi, Alfons. My wife directed me to your lessons. It is me, Petko, writing from her profile after watching your introduction and practising with you your 1st lesson. I am almost in love with you, man (No worries, I am a straight guy...so just liking from heart to heart :) ). Your presence, your humor, your "peace with yourself"... Thanks, Alfons! Your first lesson reminded me about myself...about my precious "forgotton" body. In two times there appeared happy tears in my eyes. Thanks again, Alfons! Keep on spreading your message. Feldenkrais method is so simple and such difference !!!

    Dear Alfons, A friend introduced your videos to us and can't wait to share now with so many friends and family. These movements are a revelation, revealing tensions we didn't know we had, but have been secretly impacting. After this lesson my head and shoulders feel like a teenager again (in my 60s), MUCH more aware of my neck! How do we loose this kind of joyful awareness? Nevermind, there's a way to get it back! Feldenkrais with Alfons!! Thanks for sharing your love of Feldenkrais, and for keeping us chuckling as well! :):):)

    This one was awesome! Nearly 70 and the neck/head aches of the last several days are massively improved. More important though, is learning about how my body is put together and can function as integrated whole. I'm working my way through the videos and also through your Patreon account. Marvelous, all of them. As someone else wrote, I feel as though I'm in the room with you. Your are a natural for video, thank heavens, because Austria is a long, expensive way to go for Feldenkrais instruction!

    I did the whole Better Day by Day series, then did other Feldenkrais lessons for a couple of months, and came back to this one. It was such a pleasure to see how much improvement I've had! It was so much smoother and easier this time around, and I could feel so much more of my back, shoulders, etc. I'm looking forward to going through the remainder of the Day by Day series again!

    Great new sequence, Alfons. You are taking us back to first principals to integrate the whole body's movement train to lift the head. You don't really want or need a snappy title here, because you are aiming for integration from the sole of the feet on up to the head. Just the deviation move from midline, and the shifts with the elbow gave me a profound new sense of the head and neck, chest, shoulders, ribs and vertebrae. You have got it all going on, and I look forward to the next lesson in the train. Oh, and my head does float much better over the top of the spine.Best, Kevin in Maine

    Hi, Alfons -- I have what's called Young Onset Parkinson's Disease, and I want you to know that Feldenkrais and your videos in particular have been a huge help to me. I have been using the Getting Better Day by Day series for a few weeks and it has made an enormous difference. As you may know, Parkinson's causes stiffness and balance problems, and Feldenkrais has helped more than anything else I've tried.
    I have been doing exercises 6 days a week, and plan to keep right on!
    I don't really understand HOW it works so quickly -- maybe nobody does -- but I felt better after the first class.
    So thank you, Alfons!

    Just starting through this series a second time and can see the improvement in flexibility in just 11 days. But it's the improvement in my awareness that I find most surprising. Wasn't expecting that. This series and the 4 other videos I've done so far are like a voyage of discovery of how I create my presence in the world. Increased awareness in one area highlights unawareness in other areas which leads to more awareness revealing more unawareness and so on and on and on. It's like playing hide and seek with my body! :-)

    • @ImprovingAbility
      @ImprovingAbility  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly! You got it! 😁 I find it so amazing, and fascinating, that the actual theory and teachings are like watermarks sitting inside the movements, and if a person dedicates herself/himself to explore the lessons she/he will find the principles, the theory, the connections, one by one, deeper and deeper...

    Just started your classes and already happy to have found them. Just like in real life, first impressions tell a lot. And it's like not only you are telling, but my body is telling too: it recognizes and responds to your natural way of being. Your humour and naturalness all add to what I would call radical allowance. Just what I needed. I have been in pain for two years now and I tried a lot of therapies. Looking forward to our next date. Thank you for youre lessons. Im psysical therapist, and we dont have a lot of therapist doing Feldenkrais metod here in Serbia. This is the first time that I realize this kind of tehnique because I have a Ptsd. And Ive serched it for myself. Thank you so much for this. Because Ive had an expirience with yoga and it is not the same. Because when you dont have so much body awerness after yoga class sometimes I had greater problem. Because I dsconect from body. So particular the thing doing woth constriction is gentle work. Not going over the line of serious stiffness. Because if you do it you disconect even more. This is something from my expirience. First, I though that Im doing something wrong,, but it is not. Just be gentle, and this tehnique offers something wich go along to being well

    Alfons, this was my very first lesson with you & I have to say, I'm purely amazed! I'm the 51 year old that wrote to you yesterday (Mary). :) I actually have tears in my eyes because I feel myself again. -I don't know how to explain it, but to say that I have a feeling of blood circulating again b/w my shoulder blades. I have 'severe' DDD on the left & 'moderate' DDD on the right (c5/6, 6/7), so ironically (to me anyway-haha), my right shoulder was shaking toward the end of the part where we try to take our right elbow and aim it toward the left knee. -I wasn't going vigorously either (I promise-haha)...I guess I felt as if this was my very tight and weak right shoulder/neck area reacting to having to 'do extra', as maybe it is always the side of me that picks up the slack for that 'severe' left side. Even as I move the cursor right now, that shoulder area on the right still is shaking! I don't know...totally guessing, but boy did that arm/shoulder on the right shake toward the end. *Now that I've done 'class 1", should I move on toward class 2 tomorrow? I didn't care that my arm shook by the way-I know it is weak and I once was told I had bursitis b/c of the elbow pain in that same arm. Of course, it is always the trigger point area on the trap that I feel the pain when I'm walking. Ok! I know that this might not sound very positive, but guess what? It is! haha! I feel amazing. *This week, I get my last 2 episodes of traction with that DRX9000 machine. The chiropractor may want to check my thoracic spine again to see if I adjust. -Hmmm..never have and usually like a 'rock'....I wonder...as I feel softer...but perhaps this may take some time. Even so, my goal is not to 'crack' with a spinal cracker (haha-had to say that), but to be "soft unto myself." (And of course, being pain free is always a goal, right? :)). God Bless your amazing self!

    • @zephyronfire3821
      @zephyronfire3821 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Feldenkrais with Alfons, Yes, it’s something I do not enjoy....I’ve never went to one in Nova Scotia. After some of the traction episodes with the DRX9000 machine, he would check my thoracic spine and i try to adjust it (and my neck). The mid back never loosened and I thought I was going to ‘break’. Seriously! I just thought I’m tough or something. Lol...But it was a very uncomfortable feeling. Anyway....todays’ traction is over. If I do the neck ‘high chair’ exercises (pushing with weights), I’d be surprised if it does anything but make me sore. It seems so ‘static’....whereas your activities are real-t0-movement, real-to-life!

Finally today I felt better and was able to start doing Feldenkrais again. At the beginning of this lesson I had dull pain in my lumber area while lying on floor but after lesson, to my surprise, my lumbar back pain went away. At the beginning of lesson I felt that I touched the floor with my sacrum area but at the end I felt floor with my buttocks. It is so amazing connection of all areas of our spine and all body. This is my first time revisiting this video since starting my Feldenkrais journey with this lesson in the Spring. In the meantime I have purchased the companion book and practiced movement lessons on my own as well as doing many of the videos on this channel. The difference is remarkable.
    I didn’t need a pillow this time, because my head wasn’t hanging over the ground. I could feel movement in my ribs and chest that I’d never felt before with these movements. Lifting my head felt truly light at the end of this, which it never did on my first attempts at this lesson. Thanks for all this wonderful lessons.

I started your videos and got the Getting Better Day By Day workbook too. It's so odd how such little movements can make my head feel so different afterwards. I really think the few minutes a day I spend doing the Feldenkrais moves I've learned so far are helping me a lot with my post-CV inflammation and health issues.

    This kind of teaching is precious. It encourages endless exploration of our body. I tried to look for the first action in my body before my head actually lifts... it’s the back of the neck... oh no, it’s the upper back... no it’s the abdomen... Every time I lift the head, I always find a new part of the body initiating it. I am looking forward to a 5-hour lesson on how to stand the feet’s while lying down :-)

Knee hurts less right after this and I'll take a walk. I have bee doing PT for more than 7 months and I'm excited about doing your day 2 lesson tomorrow. lucy

    Thanks for this lesson. Part of my concussion recovery is working on my neck. This helped. I am still searching for movements that will calm dowm my trapesius muscle. Fendlekrais has helped me regain balance and to regain and rebuild some of the disconnections in my brain.

    Great first lesson! I’m 65 and in chronic pain. One lesson a day is my max. I’ve been looking for a feldenkrais channel! Your enthusiasm and knowledge are just what I want. Small change already - My stiff neck of 3weeks is gone! I’d pay for what you offer ,so I’ll watch the commercials gladly to keep you on TH-cam!

    So helpful! I popped a muscle in my calf 1 week ago and it's still tight and sore. I carefully got on the floor for the first time to do this lesson and when I got up afterwards, my calf was noticibly less tight. As was the rest of me! I was cautious as I have chronic neck and shoulder stiffnes, usually even very gentle head and neck movements make my neck feel tighter. But this sequence of gentle exercises really did losen my neck and shoulder muscles. For me, I think the relaxed, exploratory, curious nature of the movements really helps. It naturally takes my attention away from striving to achieve a certain posture, therefore removing any straining. Thank you so much Alfons, for your generosity, love and humour in sharing these lessons! Now I've discovered your site I will follow all of the lessons on here! Much Love xx

    Alfons, this has been an interesting lesson, after trying all the neck lift variations holding the head with hands with elbows out to sides, 45 degrees and straight up to ceiling, then angling elbow to opposite knee. After retesting the baseline neck lift, I was aware that while lifting the neck, the right knee bends. Alfons, you were right about the hip joint and uneven leg length having its cause higher up, in the head/neck. After accommodating shifting my weight to the left left to walk and move around, this strategy caused more imbalances, and lodged a bit of dull ache in the lower back, pelvic area, left of sacrum. And yes, lying flat on the floor became a challenge because the right thigh muscles did not release. With practice of feldenkrais and somatic yoga it has become easier to lie flat on the floor. So yes, lying on floor is an achievement. Even in yoga it is said that this pose is the most difficult - namely because we are unable to let go. So I see that right side energy has been lifted upwards (contracted) and causing the uneven leg length. After this lesson the tension in the lower back-sacrum area was eased a bit, and I can place the ball of left foot and below toes, flat on floor. I know this is a big achievement, since I am aware of what my feet do or don't do with every step. I feel optimistic that as I go through the Getting Better series that something will shift. Progress in mobility is happening. If you have any observations I would appreciate hearing them. The whole session was quite relaxing and I felt energy moving just with lying flat on floor... an achievement. hahahaha.
    Thank you for these videos. Feldenkrais is amazing, and as you said, like going down a rabbit hole.... and maybe I could call myself Alice in Wonderland. Bye for now.

      You are very generous with your time and enthusiasm about sharing. This it self gives good vibes. Your hesitation with language gives a fresh perspective in understanding unlike stream of words without the space to convey the idea. Whole thing is non mechanical. You impart your understanding really well. There is the quality of care. You are great.

    For yr interest, I found this channel via your interesting comment on Evi's work with Hanna somatic video, which comment she replied to. I saw Feldenkrais in yr ac name & was curious! Discovered somatic exercise via friend who attended UK weekend w a teacher. Was looking for alternative exercise to enhance my 92 yo mother's stretching exercises in bed every morning, but found more suitable for me as I age. I think we often fill our homes with lumpen furniture, leaving little space for floor work & then we cannot physically get to the floor!

    Alfons extraordinary returning to this video after a few weeks. I have changed, so power of video is so much more. Lightness is head and awareness of its position on top of my shoulder - what a lovely, warm feeling. Thank you for recommending again. Would love to do Skype session when finances allow. Incapacity has drained my finances at moment. Ronald

    my head feels light, almost like a ballon filled with helium ( but no dizzyness ), I am very happy that I found your channel on TH-cam, it will be a great warmup for movement awareness classes in October - until then I can explore how long the effect will last and how far I can progress in movement - the idea of Feldenkrais movement has totally caught my attention. How can something be so easy, almost effortless and yet be SO effective - positive!
    Great!
    I end up doing these classes any time of the day - sometimes with coffee in the morning, sometimes midday, sometimes before bedtime, but other than Yoga, it always sets me in a calm state of mind and feeling, almost everytime I could feel an improvement/change right after/in lesson - which encourages me to continue.
    Thank you so much, and I am looking forward to: Getting Better Day by Day (what a catchy title!) ;)

      Hi Adrian, thank you for your comments. I can only imagine what you are going through. Maybe a little encouragement: I myself had severe headaches back in the days when I was a Software engineer. At times they were so strong, that I would have to stay for hours in a completely dark room without moving and wait for them to pass. Luckily, they completely disappeared. I think it is indeed because of the Feldenkrais lessons, and my regular practice.
      Another thing I did, which might not apply to you, but I think helped me: I quit coffee years ago. Coffee, as great as it is, after all it is a neurotoxin alkaloid, and a drug, and has withdrawal headaches as side effect. Sometimes I get clients with migraine and severe headaches. But so far none of them wanted to Feldenkrais lessons or do my exercises as homework, let alone quit coffee, smoking, or change diet. I think the least they could have tried was a couple of hours of Feldenkrais lessons, but they refused. Therefore I can't report any other success stories than my own.

      I have been living with this for 8 years and i am only 28 years old, and through my own personal research i came to the conclusion that i have silent migranes and regular ones, high sensitivity to light sometimes and other symptoms that come along with it, and this i feel happens because of an alignment problem, no matter what doctors say, i know and listen to my body i know that the preassure in my joints is not even and this causes all my aches along my whole body, specifically my neck and head. I can't really do a lot of walking or standing up because i start having tension and pain all over my body, i tried yoga but it really dosent work for me i think it's too rough and invasive for me and i feel worse after streching like that.

      Regarding the coffee and diet, they say that the stomach is the second brain and that it has to do with emotions too,and i think so too i can't think clearly when my stomache is not well, so i am on a path to healing it as well and commited to do this i am doing 1 apple in the morning with small breakfast like oatmeal and i started drinking Aloe vera in the morning and nights i drink coffee only 1 or 2 times in a month
