    Hello Alfons ! I had heard about Feldenkrais method but never really explored and was a bit sceptical as well to be honest. I found out your video by searching for carpal tunnel problem and I decided to give it a go. It was like a magic. So much of body awareness and connection with such simple movements. I can really feel the difference. Thank you so much for all these videos. Great way of explaining with gentleness and compassion which we seems to have lost with ourselves. Thank you again.

    This eas profound. Half an hour into the movements tears began flowing, something I haven't done since my injury. An emotional as well as physical release. Thank you❤

    Hello Alfons, after this lesson my arm feels very happy and prickeling. Amazing stuff. Especially for musicians as we have to use our Hands in a very gentle and thoughtful way. This lesson has changed how I play the harp! :)

    Hello Alfons, I have spent the last few days doing your lessons - sometimes more than one a day, and I'm really enjoying them. My reason for doing them is that I have chronic headaches as a result of shoulder and neck tension. I have tried many things over the years, and your are my latest attempt at a solution (not a lst resort I hope!) I'm not expecting instant results, but I hope for a slow and gradual improvement. I'll let you know how I get on. Many thanks.

    This lesson was very powerful for me. Had a windsurfing high impact accident 24 years ago (April 4, 1994). This lesson really got in there. Just did not have the strength (I now realise body organisation) to hold on to wishbone in force 8 gust. Catapulted as attached at waist level with harness. Like hitting concrete, the water. Bleed on brain. Collapsed 3 weeks later. Lucky to be alive. Recovering every since. Releasing today. Very emotional. Thank you. X

    hullo and thank you again Alfons I am repeating these introductory lessons and find they are going much easier now. The shoulder joints one with rotator cuff problem much improved less pain and more power. hope to find my way to the hips too as I have been working on lower back, sciatica, S.I. tight hip flexor problem for a long time and my lumbar spine still can.t get anywhere near the floor, Much appreciation and respect for Feldenkrais and Alfons.for posting from an almost 80 year old South Aftican.

    Hi Alfons, I am following your you tube channel since several weeks. Affected by a frozen shoulder since months and a nice bursitis since a few weeks (both on my right side,hahaha, shoulder - hip connection is proofed ) I felt today a nice stressless relief in my right shoulder. It felt better than the healthy left shoulder. Fantastic! Im becoming a feldenkrais fan-.I also practice your shoulder and hip programs regulary. They work but I know I have to be patient Just go on with your videos. They are great. Thanks! Did I already mention that I am teaching yoga since 12 years (4 lessons per week) but there is always something to learn outside!!! Liebe Grüße nach Bregenz! Karin aus München.

    Had some interesting reactions... a little frustration at how stuck or stiff some movements felt... the judge 👩‍⚖️ in me was very vocal for a but ;) then you’re chat guiding me back to sense and feel was at the right moment. Left arm (have some old injury pains) was the one who got treatment today. Will check out the right side another day. Feels like a lot of processing and integration is going on already. THANKS again for these lessons! Really helping!

    Thank you very much for your lovely lessons Alfons, I've had tendonitis in my right shoulder for over 10 years and these feldenkrais videos are helping me with my healing incredibly. Especially the learning how to relax through movement part. I had a particularly rough day and then this lovely lesson conveniently popped up for me :) Your instructions are clear and your channel is great! My gratitude for all the awesome free content! Thank you, thank you, thank you Alfons! Such a gift to give everyone. There is no feldenkrais classes in my area and I have long been interested so I thank you so very much. Internal body awareness is so important. We just take for granted and abuse ourselves. I am learning to "micro listen" to my body...it feels like it is starting to float. :) When I focus just on the micro movements my mind becomes still and calm. I use is as part of my Meditation and I am loving it. With love.

      A frozen right shoulder is also indicative of gallbladder problems.

      @@TheMaryhunter1 Hello back. I dealt with a frozen right shoulder for a year before the biliary colic pain occurred one night and I had to have gallbladder removal surgery. Apparently, according to Chinese medicine and acupuncture, the gallbladder meridians runs through the right side and right shoulder. At 69, I was not very comfortable in spite of good general health. Once the gallbladder was removed (it was the size of an apple) the shoulder pain never returned. Of course, I also follow Alfons and others as I practice Feldenkrais regularly. That always helps. But sometimes we need some medical intervention when the going gets rough. Wishing you well.

    • @TheMaryhunter1
      @TheMaryhunter1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sujatavarma1904 thanks for your response Sujata. I think my shoulder had to do with "soldiering on" in a rigid way - I am curious about whether that would tie up with the energy of the gall bladder in chinese medicine. I have made a lot of practical changes so I have a lot more freedom but I also went and just got a mechanical solution for my shoulder (had the joint expanded with saline to break the adhesions and cortisol to tamp down the inflammation) and it is now great. The body is an interesting creature! Glad you're well again and thanks for sharing your experience.

      @@TheMaryhunter1 thank you so much for your kind response and for sharing. Unfortunately I am not a medical person to understand fully what you went through. Most importantly, if you are feeling well and the procedures you tried helped you in some way, then it is indeed gratifying and rewarding. I hope that Feldenkrais continues to be a helpful experience for all us who wish to continue the practice. Wishing you a peaceful, stress-free day, full of smiles and free of discomfort. Hello Alfons, I'm back! This is the 2nd time I've done this, the first was the day before yesterday. You were highly recommended by a good friend of mine who is a dancer / teacher / choreographer. So I came to this video already open and trusting you. I want to let you know that I love the way you use imagery and poetry. The arm swaying like a tree, feeling the arm moving as if walking on the forest floor, and resting the arm beside you like a friend. Just wonderful.

    Hello Alfons! I tried an experiment today, doing both arms at the same time, up until the shoulder stands, then I alternated them. Both hands and arms feel fine .... (I've been knitting for the last few days, and that's very repetitive movements in both hands, and they are very grateful). It is such a simple easy lesson, I was able to be more aware than usual, thank you and see you in the next xxx

    Immediately upon sitting up, my upper right side felt beautifully relaxed and light. This is the side that has been tormenting me for 50 years. When I lifted my right arm it felt like a cloud. My left side, which usually feels pretty good, felt like a bucket of rusty, decrepit bones and bolts. So I immediately restarted the video, laid back down and treated my left side to this beautiful lesson. Thank you, Maestro.

  • @gyans.tomasic6134

    Hello Alfons, thank you for this video. It is deemed most worthy, enabling many of us to reclaim the ally of our right and left arm. A nice feeling to have the arms float upwards towards the ceiling. I especially felt a great benefit thumping the left shoulder blade down on the floor, particularly since both shoulder blades had previously been locked in and down to a limited range of immobility (due to condition that I had been diagnosed with), and over time loosening the shoulder blades. Great to let go of tension in the hands, particularly the right hand which I use to lean on my brolly for support sometimes (although now with practice of Feldenkrais I am finding I can walk more upright), sending contraction into the right shoulder. Quite a lot of adjustments occur with shifting of weight, so doing Awareness through movement is wonderful way to unwind and rewire the circuits in the brain. I so enjoy your lessons and your good humour and how you use the English language.... it is a bit odd when one looks at the words. hahahaha. Many thanks.

    Dear Alfons, Wow! This helped my left wrist go from nearly vertical only to a nice deep sinking. Even my husband was impressed. Injured it 3 weeks ago while gardening, have been wearing a carpal tunnel brace to keep from bending it but now feel new possibilities floating around in there among all the bones and ligaments, like hope from imprisonment for my wrist! haha! Thanks so much! Have been inviting friends. Wasn't realizing how much we depend on the wrist now have a renewed respect, and love, for dear wrist. :)

    Dear Alfons, once again a very revealing lesson. I've worked with this basic exploration before, but you break it down and deepen it by getting our attention on hands, fingers, and wrists. So relaxing that I have fallen asleep a few times before finishing the lesson. But I got through it all, and really appreciate the scapula like a foot connection. Keep on rockin,

    Once again, loved the lesson. I didn't notice much difference between the arms at the end of the lesson. But I love entering into the quiet bodily awareness with these lessons. Noticed aswell, that when standing the whole arm, my shoulder blade was not fully flat on the floor. When you said the arm was like a leg and the shoulder blade a foot - my foot was standing on the toes (the toes pointing in to the spine (the heel was a little off the floor). Thank you.

    Hi Alfons, This is to thank you for your wonderful video lessons. My friend told me about Feldenkrais a few weeks ago and I soon found your video collection. I am very much in need of somatic awareness and so happy to learn about my body this way. I remember having a friend point out to me years ago that I had neck pain because I kept twitching to relieve the discomfort - I had not even noticed. Now I am working on hip pain caused by FAI and I need to correct anterior pelvic tilt when I stand and walk, but I lose consciousness of my posture so this will help. Also, I need to learn to coordinate the firing of my glutes and hamstrings correctly when climbing an incline - a year ago I could not tell the difference between them from the inside - I am learning. One thing that has really surprised me in your lessons is the effect on my overall wellbeing. I come away feeling peaceful, rested, calm. My perspective seems to shift to a place with cherry blossoms dangling over a quiet pool. Thank you so much.

    Another great lesson. I'm so pleased to have found your channel that gives me a way to explore gentle movement and hopefully in time relieve pain. For this lesson, I found lifting my shoulder and elbow quite hard work. The rest of my body felt relaxed, but there was shuddering in my shoulder and a sort of clunky/pinging sensation like the muscles and bones weren't quite getting along like they should. Will keep exploring this!

    Good morning Alfons! :) I really enjoyed this one as well. I used my dominant (writing) arm which is my left one (& where the DDD registered as 'severe' on an MRI). Anway, I was surprised at how I could really feel the 'restricted' movement in my scapular region on that side. This too is where there is a bone spur. At any rate, I do feel looser now, but discovered that as I lower my head (as I typed this), I could feel the tightness in the mid-spine. I just kept nodding to feel it but unfortunately, could not get it to loosen with the nodding movement. It does tell me why I do experience the shoulder pain and stiffness, I suppose. -Have a great day!

I've been mostly unable to type for 10+ years and the diagnosis keeps changing...something to do with the median nerve i think. But I went to my first feldenkrais arm workshop a few weeks ago and did a few movements that involved straightening the arm and pulling back the hand, and i've had extremely painful claw-hands ever since. So I'm wondering about other options?

    Dear Alfons, I' working through your "getting day by day-lessons from july 2020. I often repeat this lesson for the hand, because I have a Dupyitren-Syndrom on the downside from my left (writing) hand between the little and the ring-finger, since almost 2 years. Some month ago I feel ake in the left hand on the outside of the ellbow, coming from the strength of the Dupyitren-Syndrom. Perhaps you have specificated lessons for it? Thanks a lot for an anwser. I'm writing from Germany with many thanks for your helpful lessons. With best regards

    Unbelievable. My whole hand started moving (twitching) as long as I didn't try to control it, circles, back and forth, side to side. What's up with that? Weird. But my hand feels much better after this lesson. Thank you.

    Alfonso. Do you think about the movement Matt has suggested below

  • @cinmac3
    @cinmac3 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    The comment i would like today about doing the left side , after or while we are doing the right.
    I do understand that , for those who need more of a focus on their wrist.
    I do not know if that can work well with what you are teaching, can it?

    • @cinmac3
      @cinmac3 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      What i meant to say is i neglected the movement fully because i did not think you would do the other side.

    Hi Alfons, I have been doing this series up to this lesson and it has made me sore in my neck (but less tense) and lower back. Is this normal? Do you have any recommendations or knowledge about how long this might last? Great Stuff.

    My hand was very uncomfortable burning, numb and very cold... so it was hard for me to concentrate or feel good... only when I stood did that feeling dissipate.. completed it.. nighttime when sleeping is the worse for me 😫

    Can you do Feldenkrais on hyper mobility patients

    • @ImprovingAbility
      @ImprovingAbility  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      for sure, think “organisation”, “function”, and in this case also “stability” instead of stretching and flexibility

  • @florenciadjoedesign

    Hi Alfons, just wonder if we can practice with both hands at the same time?

    • @ImprovingAbility
      @ImprovingAbility  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You certainly can perform the movements with both hands simultaneously, but… can you also observe the details and sensory feedback of each hand at the same time? This would almost be like listening to two people talk at the same time… not saying that it's impossible, it might be possible, but certainly most people will perceive this as more stressful than listening to only one person - or one hand - at a time. What do you think?

      in a DIY approach it’s a bit trial and error.. maybe start with my 3-part neck and shoulder series? then come back to this hand lesson, and “reaching like a skeleton”

    Hi i have pain on the bone of my shoulder the acromion area, maybe it is an impingement. Is this video suited to treating this condition

    • @ImprovingAbility
      @ImprovingAbility  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Impossible to say without having seen to you. Practice slowly and attentively, never go into pain, find what movements are comfortable. Then this lesson might have some very beneficial effects. The Feldenkrais Method of Somatic Education is neither medical nor therapeutical.

    Happy holidays!.
    Question: is it normal that after doing these exercises* on both hands, my breathing change and now I have hard time breathing. I feel like something moved in the middle of my sternum and is not allowing me to breathe normal. Is there any exercise* that can help me with that?.
    Thank you ✌️

    • @ImprovingAbility

      Hi, no that’s not normal, I could only guess why. Instead you could follow it up with my video “The sternum becoming flexible”, or the series “Neck and Shoulders” (the ones with the red blanket). Good luck!

      Here’s the link to the sternum video: th-cam.com/video/zR7VBHPMiRc/w-d-xo.html I recommend 1. doing the movements only small and slowly, and keep your touch light 2. focus on the explorations rather than the movements 3. learn all the steps in the lesson by heart and practice on your own (for example in bed after waking up or before falling asleep) Wish you all the best!
