    he first production model in the fully-electric ID. family features a new and pioneering design, higher ranges, and impressive driving dynamics. The overall package is backed up by an attractive pricing structure: The entry-level version of the ID.3 will cost less than 30,000 Euros. Even the exclusive, special edition ID.3 1st, with a 58-kWh battery and a range of roughly 420 kilometres (according to WLTP) will be available for less than 40,000 Euros.
    The body panelling accommodates pioneering technologies from the modular electric drive matrix (MEB), which is used by the ID.3 as the first model in the Volkswagen Group. The high-voltage battery is installed low down in the underbody, ensuring a low centre of gravity and agile handling. The electric drive motor drives the rear wheels, resulting in excellent traction. The motor recuperates energy when the vehicle is braked and feeds this back into the battery. The wheels are aerodynamically optimised and have a diameter of 18 to 20 inches, while the tyres have only low rolling resistance.
    As a characteristic design feature of the new ID. models, the ID.3 has short overhangs and a very long wheelbase. This results in the Open Space - the large, airy interior sets new standards in the compact class. The cockpit has a clean and concentrated appearance. The ID. Light beneath the windscreen visually communicates with passengers. The ID.3 is largely operated via the multifunction steering wheel, the central 10-inch touchscreen or the “Hello ID.” intelligent voice control.
    The electronics platform of the ID.3 has been newly designed from scratch. Two high-performance computers bundle a large number of functions, and the software is designed to be highly flexible like on a server. This makes it easy to download updates to the car, and in future also function upgrades, via a mobile network. The services of We Connect Start connect the car to the Page 7 © Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft The new ID.3 / International driving event / Volkswagen / July 2020 owner’s smartphone, allow control of charging and air conditioning, supply traffic information and also display live data about charging stations on the navigation map. App Connect (standard) permits media streaming via a smartphone.
    The equipment options for the ID.3 come from the areas of design, infotainment, convenience, assistance and sport. They include high-tech features such as the augmented reality headup display, which projects important information onto the windscreen so that it appears to be three-dimensional. Travel Assist controls the distance to the vehicle in front and keeps the car in its lane. The LED matrix headlights provide an intelligently controlled main beam. If the ID.3 is unlocked by Keyless Access, its light module briefly swivels and welcomes the driver.
    All ID.3 models can be charged with alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC). When using direct current with a power rating of 125 kW, the ID.3 Pro S can be charged for a distance of a good 350 km in just 30 minutes. When on the road, the We Charge charging service provides access to more than 150,000 charge points in Europe. In the garage at home, the ID. Charger - the home charging station available in three variants - ensures convenient charging. Operation of the ID.3 is climate-neutral with Volkswagen green electricity from 100% renewable sources. Its production process already has a carbon-neutral balance.
    The revolutionary character of the ID.3 is already clear at first glance. The exterior design of the car is both soft and flowing as well as firm and concentrated, it trusts in strong proportions and does without any superfluous trim elements. The ID.3 is a car for sustainable mobility and is a true Volkswagen at the same time.
    The one-box design is a clear indication of how the ID.3 is built around its passengers. Its overhangs are unusually short, but the interior is very long because the axles have been moved well apart. The compact electric model has a wheelbase of 2,765 millimetres, which almost matches that of the Passat. The high-voltage battery is located as a flat block under the passenger cell. All the other technical components take up only little space: the drive unit is accommodated on the rear axle, while components such as the radiator and air conditioning system are located in the short front end.
    The seven preconfigured models available at the market launch of the ID.3 optionally have a heat pump on board.

    Hi, nice video, and one question, what do you think about the solar roof, is something that the driver can note some diference?, or is just for the companions?, do you think that brings something to the driver?, worth it to have it?

      Vincent i thinks solar panel it is not so important. It bring maybe 5 -10% battery during a sunny day and over time it lost the capability 👍

    I took your advice. I have now seen both your Hyundai and id3 videos it would seem I'm inclined to the ID3 as it seems to have a more modern look and feel and would forfeit range of the Hyundai to go for the 58kw id3. We will test drive both and make a choice Thanks for the info.

    Regarding Noise...Model 3 was measured with 74db at 130km/h and ID3 with 70db from Car press.
    3db means doubling the Noise Intensity! and we have even 4db Difference. By the way a modern ICE like Golf VIII has this noise level like M3 only at 160km/h.
    Means the M3 is much more noisy.

      @@SDADanCars You are the only one that i hear saying ID 3 has equal cabin noise as Model 3. Most says ID 3 is one of the most quietest EV on the market. A lot more quiter than M3.

      Jon i guess you have to test it. I add some rubers to my model 3 around Doors and up to roof maybe this reduce a little the noise but I didnt feel a big difference. For me noice it is good in both cars I dont have any complaints. It was just my observation but it can depend on many factors like asphalt, road quality, speed , outside noise...it is hard to make an perfect comparation....maybe only in same environment

      By the way...in the latest AMuS (Auto Motor und Sport) there was a comparison of ID3 and M3 (and others) and it seems noise level got improved in M3 since last test I have read. The M3 was measured with 71db at 130 km/h and the ID3 with 70db.
      Means that your impression that both have similar noise level could be indeed true, if you have a newer build of M3...or just lucky with a random better built quality of your car. 😉

    Hi Dan, I'm writing you from Tessin. I'm thinking to buy car and pass from a combustion termic car to a elettric car. I think to buy an Id.3. In order to save some money, I was thining for the entry basic Id.3 version with 45kw/h. (excellent value for money). I have seen some videos from other testers, and it seems that Volskagen have improved something compare the 58 kw/h, like the auto hold and other little things for a driving more confortable. I do about 10'000 km per year, and I do not need a big batthery, an auhtonomy of 250/300 km it's more than enough. I was wondering if you think to make a video detailed also for this version in this next days, especially regaridng the performance. Thank you very much. Daniele from Lugano.

    This one or the Mazda MX-30? I want the Mazda, my husband the id3. The range is NOT the big problem. We will not even use the 200 km range in one month.

      It depends on the tires - some have a thicker bead, which protects the rims, without have the tire stick out in the breeze, which would increase drag.

      I am getting mine for €34,400 here in Ireland and without metallic paint like the moonstone grey in this video it would have been €33,700. Great video Dan but maybe you could mention the 3 prices or specs that the car comes in in future video. This is €4000 cheaper than my eGolf from just 2 years ago with only 33kWh usable battery range. So very good value considering everything. I would prefer my eGolf interior though.

    O ridici prea mult in slavi, nimic din ce ai numit "premium" nu e premium. Daca jucaria asta e premium, atunci Taycan sau Model S, X ce mai sunt? Sa fim seriosi, e facuta cu materiale bune, dar nu premium. Si piano black nu e premium oricat l-ai lustrui.
    Interior mai gri si demoralizant mai vezi doar pe VW up si cele din clasa up. Atata gri si negru de parca au simulat lumea prin ochii unui deprimat cronic.
    HUD "d-ala premium" are si Opel, care clar nu e marca premium.
    Mai tae din ele, da-le dreacu.
    BTW, imi place ca vorbesti in engleza, dar te comporti romaneste, ai 100 pe autostrada si mergi pe banda cea mai din stanga.

    These new infotainment and buttonless systems from vw are giving me anxiety. They are so wrong.

    Amounts to $56,557.00, I'm better off with a Tesla Model 3 fully loaded and painted red. Great car but VW has to get real. I hope Nissan doesnt make the same mistake with the Ariya.

      👍 yes you are kind of right. I think VW will come out with another ID3 cheaper version but ......it is the first electric car on the new platform and maybe they need to get some money for budget. The car it is not bad at all. Wish it was cheaper as well.

      You can get cheaper version of ID 3 with decent range. Add the fact that everything is expensive in Switzerland lol. You get better price in other part of europe.

      Well with me I'm waiting for my e-Golf to be fixed....its in Jersey at VW Group of America. I'm concernrd about warranty it is a 2016 with only 16000 miles. Have you had any experiences with them.

    Way overpriced for sure. Road noise sounds a bit loud ! Surprising ! I had hoped they would sound deaden it a bit better.

    How can you be so positive to this worthless navigation system. Laggy, ugly. Vw must understand that it is 2020, I have had better navigation on my phone for 10 years! 20 inch wheels is not equal to sporty handling. The brakes are just terrible with bad integreation between regen and ordinary brakes. To brake hard, you have to be strong. Yet I bought this car, its good but not this good.
