Really hoping Sonic gets a movie skin too then. It'd be better than Colors Ultimate having the movie Sonic aura/Boost as an unlockable and the logical next step
This game is showcasing how much Sonic Team has learned from both Colours Ultimate (don’t make a shoddy port) and Frontiers (stylistic, thought-out design) and combining it with this new approach for the franchise where they just embrace it all. No more laughing at memes, no more hiding from games that didn’t do well, and no more sole focus on Sonic. It is EXTREMELY refreshing for a longtime fan for myself; my flip-out over Kingdom Valley returning really hammered home how surreal this all feels. I don’t know who exactly is responsible for the change in approach but they had the best possible idea, because seeing the franchise embrace itself wholeheartedly like this is incredible. Especially as a big Shadow fan, this game looks like both a love-letter to and a redo of his character. All these new abilities coupled with another dive into his past are moving mountains here. This is the first time in a long time where I'm excited for a Sonic game. Not cautiously optimistic, but actually 100% on-board. Hopefully they find a way to keep the original steam release around, though. 13 years of such an amazing modding community disappearing would suck.

@@anythinginazuma7641 Because like Arrow Films’ Waterworld release; you’d want the option to see the US cut despite the European cut being an overall better experience. Having the option available to see the US cut is a nice choice regardless. Another example: Criterion Collection’s Godzilla (1954) release where you have the King of the Monsters US re-edit and the original, superior Gojira cut. The Japanese original might be the better version but having the US edit is nice to have if you want to go and watch it. If the owner wants to be able to experience the “outdated” Sonic Generations UI and all through the remaster/updated edition, that should be an option than being prohibited like the original unaltered cuts of the Star Wars Original Trilogy. Both for purist’s sake and for everyone else who aren’t too crazy on the new additions. I know people didn’t care for the changes and additions to LoZ: Ocarina of Time on 3DS.
You mentioning how they might bring back Flame Core gave me chills. Also 0:32 the fact that Choctopus did the smartest thing by connecting the Dualsense to capture audio is such a brilliant idea.
I think what's happening in Shadow Generations is we have a full 3D Act 1 and a full 2.5D Act 2 for every stage. The demo specifies Act 1 for Space Colony ARK, and in that there is no 2.5D AT ALL. Maybe this is how they rectify that Shadow doesn't have a "Classic" version. And when you think about it OG Gens did the same kinda, but here they take the feedback from Frontiers and elevate it.
For the first time in a long time, a Sonic game actually looks good. Not "good except for this," or "well it will look better in the final version," or "cautiously optimistic," it just straight up it looks GOOD!
Don’t forget that back when Unleashed came out they sold multiple different packs of levels for each in game location to extend the games life. I wish they’d do the same here tbh.
I kinda hope they remake that Rush stage from the 3DS Generations if there is DLC. Heck, any stage from the GBA games revisited to see how it would look in 3D would be a major selling point for me.
Can we all talk about that Supporting Me remix for the biolizard fight? Because… my word what we can hear from the footage, it’s gonna be a certified banger!!!
The stage count is pretty decent, I think the original generation ls just had 9. I couldn't fucking believe it when I read they're making an Open Zone for Shadow to fuck about in. Six stages, 2 acts, and a fucking Open Zone for Shadow, bundled with a modern port of Generations is a pretty good mix for me.
Gonna just document info we have based on questions you have that you might've missed: -Old controls for og Gens is an option (no comment on bringing lives back) -Shadow zones have 2 acts: 1 that's entirely 2D and 1 that's entirely 3D (like the base game but actually 3d levels lol) -They confirmed that the game will have side challenges for levels like base gens, I'm assuming that factors into Izuka's playtime comment -On the acts thing, given that we've seen 3 separate zones and a boss that means atm we have 6 levels and at least 2 bosses confirmed (Biolizard and assumedly a final boss of some kind)
I spent my whole adolescence being gaslit into believing sonic 06's serious art style was too juxtaposed and unleashed/colors was objectively better. As an adult, I've come to realize that such a bold clash was probably ahead of it's time and is such a god damn beauty.
I always thought the art style looked good but let down by the rushed development including the non-human characters seemingly suffering from the same facial condition as Jim Ross and just having a sleepy-eye in cutscenes look more often than not. Project-06 shows how gorgeous the style can look under better lighting, better management and more polish being done to the canvas. Kept the original foundation but made necessary tweaks including the characters emoting a lot more than in Retail 2006. Crash Bandicoot NST’s visual style looks good and does what it needs to do but CTR Nitro-Fueled shows how beautiful the style looks with a few changes to the engine lighting and it’s using the same assets as NST mind you.
I still think 06’s art style is wack (aside from Kingdom Valley that’s a beautiful stage) but the Unleashed style still holds up. The visuals in Shadow Gens is looking to be the best though.
@@littenfire3563 I think it could work, but straying away from uncanny Valley is like walking on a tight rope. I think making the humans just a smidge more animated could work. Otherwise, getting plain weird with something like who framed Roger rabbit is also pretty neat. On a complete tangent, I think my favorite adaptation of humans has always been sonic OVA where humans are just a minority of the population in some acid trip sci-fi world.
A good middleground with delisting would be to include original Generations with this new one, that way, those that still want to play mods can do so, downside is OG Gens would no longer be purchasable and a tad more expensive for newcomers, but I'd prefer this over removing it entirely because we'd lose DECADES of mods.
What Sega should do, for Steam and some console users, is make it so we get a discount if we already have Sonic Generations. No point in buying the exact game a second time, same platform, at over double the original price.
Another detail about Shadow's teleporting homing attack that I find the really interesting here is that Sonic Team put in the extra effort to use it as a gameplay mechanic to move past laser barriers without deactivating them. Some gameplay videos show that during the Crazy Gadget section of the demo stage. Hope it gets used more throughout the game.
Im not gonna lie, you're probably the best sonic youtuber. Your videos are comprehensive, entertaining, effective, and filled with meaningful content pertaining to the video. In my opinion you're underrated. Keep working hard and getting better.
Honestly I'm just as excited for the mods as I am for the game itself. Assuming that the Sonic side is still running on the same engine, which it looks like it is, then that means that we'll have over a decade of mods to bring to this new version. The Unleashed Project, Water Palace, Shivery Mountainsides, the countless character skins and mods, Classic Sonic physics improvement mods, the list goes on. Can't wait.
My headcannon is the levels for Shadow's campaign will be pivotal moments from his games. Bullet Station ended with him discovering the first android and starting his identity crisis. Kingdom Valley is where Mephiles was released in the current timeline. Radical Highway is Shadow's first exposure to humans (other than Eggman) in 50 years. Final Rush/Chase is the final duel between Sonic/Shadow. I think two more levels will be here, one from Shadow the Hedgehog and one from Forces. If I had to guess, The Last Way, where he learns why he was created, and Mystic Jungle, where he Infinite gets clapped and starts his character arc in the main game.
My only concern is that the chaos control stopping time might turn time trials into a mindless grind for enemies, instead of a mindful optimization of the level layouts
I actually don't mind it being a combination of both, as older games gave ranks based on your score (a combination of both time, and destroying enemies) It would be cool to see a return to that instead of the regular Generations ranking systems that is pretty much *only* time
@@SneavileI've always liked the score based ones more. It requires you to engage with the level and find these smalls ways to optimize your score (through time, enemies, rings etc.) instead of bombrushing it. That's why the addition of ranks and tricks in Sa2 made the speed levels cool even if it wasn't as open as Sa1.
2 neat things not many people noticed so far: 1. There's a hidden path in that one large room, if you use Chaos Control inside it a secret green trail appears, and you can traverse through it kind of like with Chaos Control in 05, or Lightspeed Dash 2. Using Chaos Spear on enemies before attacking them will shorten Homing Attack animation significantly
@@AYTM1200 what I'll say is mostly speculation from the few stuff I saw, but I think OP means that Sonic TH-camrs are cringe because they either spark drama for the views or shove opinions in your face and gaslight you into thinking it's universally true, and then fans of said TH-camrs eat it up and attack anybody who says otherwise or tries to be reasonable

5:47 I'm so happy to hear someone else loves the sonic 06 artstyle! Everytime I listen to a video where people talk about what they want out of sonic in current year, I always have to hear people shit on the artstyle of 06. As someone who loves the direction that game went in with its visuals, it has always been a shame to hear people dunk on it. It's so nice to hear some positive thoughts on it for once!
Project-06 shows how gorgeous the style can look with better technical presentation. Meanwhile, Forces shows how badly the Shadow/Unleashed style is starting to show its’ age with it being the main art style for nearly three decades now. Frontiers’ rendering helped to make them look dynamic again but I think it’s time for Sega and Sonic Team to refresh the art style to make it feel new again.
Apparently Classic Sonic will also get a Legacy Skin And according to some leaks we had some months ago, the game was finished already, so no worries about them releasing an unfinished game and updating later to make it "complete", but I really DO hope the additional level gets released as a separate DLC as well, even if paid Also, I'm hoping that this extra level is idk, a Forces level, it wouldn't be possible to do in the main story because the game is set prior to Forces, but it would be cool to see a Forces Stage redone, and even better, if it is a single extra stage with a single extra boss, and if Mephiles actually gets into the regular game, that extra boss could be Infinite
I know it doesn't really fit the story because Generations is supposed to be everything prior to 2011, but it's still about revisiting Sonic's history, and if the Time Eater was able to bring stuff from 2006, why wouldn't he bring stuff from the future? As much as I liked Infinite, I would prefer a Mania level (like Mirage Saloon). It's the more loved and overall better game,
It could be like TBOGT’s campaign deal where it takes place during and after GTA IV’s. Perhaps it starts off in the middle of Generations and ends after that game’s story ends or starts off somewhere after Forces before Shadow gets sent back to the events of Generations.
Given how long the FIRST level was, I'm not even worried about the length of the game. ESPECIALLY since the original Gens only had about 18 main line acts. 9 of which were Classic Sonic stages. So, yeah, I'm not worried about the length unless it's like 2 levels.
BTW I forgot what site mentioned it but you can change the controls for Sonic Generations between the original controls and Frontiers style controls, with Shadow Generations being exclusively Frontiers controls (aka Boost with RT, Homing Attack with jump and an extra button, etc) Edit: Also another interview confirmed that each stage has Two Acts like OG Generations, one Act being fully 3D while the other Act is fully 2D Edit 2 (I’m sorry): The PSN store and Steam pages confirm the bonus Shadow skin in the Deluxe Edition is separate from the Terios skin
Regarding Edit 1: Datamine from the trailer shows a 3D section in Rail Canyon Act 2, so the Act 2s could be mixed like Modern Sonic. Funnily enough, if that were the case, Shadow Generator would be the opposite of the base game, giving it more 3D than 2D.
The interview only really said we'd get both 2D and 3D. It wasn't clear what exactly the split would be, and the fact Act 1 of Space Colony Ark is fully 3D muddies things further
for the argument of adding dlc stages, i think it would be awesome for the stages from the 3ds version of generations to come back to represent that version and make it kind of an "ultimate" version of generations
That new model from what I've seen looks more "mature" for classic sonic which I'm glad about because i never liked the whole cutesy aesthetic they gave him the last decade
I saw this video "Sonic x Shadow generations gameplay optimized". I gotta tell you the first gameplay of the demo level that came out I was kinda worried because of the speed and general level design, but then that video hit and resolved all my worries. It basically spoils the whole level, but it's worth a watch to gauge just how exactly it will play for a veteran Sonic player, utilizing alt paths and shortcuts that honestly you couldn't even tell were there in other gameplay.
technically "the ark" is a remix of final rush itself, albeit it's more subtle about being a remix by being slowed down and reverbed, so i don't think we can expect it to be in when final rush is already remixed. who knows what act 2's track could be, though...
it should probably be mentioned that the terios skin and all the other stuff on the left side of the screen is a bonus for the digital deluxe edition only, not just for preorder
I pre-ordered this about a week ago. And the Digital Deluxe Edition, and the extra level/skin is from Sonic Movie 3. Which IS INCLUDED in the Deluxe Edition!
There is a non-zero chance that the as-of-yet unnamed skin and stage DLC coming Holiday 2024 could be a movie tie-in pack. By that point we'll have seen at least one trailer, more likely two. So there's bound to be some big set-piece that everyone knows about. Sonic Team could potentially turn that into a stage, and include a movie-styled skin for Shadow. Though realistically, I have to imagine the stage fills in the blanks with his appearance in Generations proper. If the main campaign ends with Shadow showing up in the void waiting to fight Sonic, then maybe the DLC stage is Shadow and all Sonic's friends rushing to encourage him in the final boss.
Something to bring up about the homing attack is even though its slower, I think its redeemed by the fact that its a teleport. I believe you can teleport through lasers if there is an enemy which gives it a property that sonic doesnt have giving it something to balance out the slower animation
Shadow Generations better damn be more than 5 levels; if they're gonna add Heroes and 06 to Shadow's history, then they definitely have more than enough material to work with in here.
I’d be interested if they played around with the skill sets thing in Generations a bit more and got creative with it. How about a double jump? What about making the game control more like Frontiers or the adventure games? Giving Classic Sonic an air boost? Letting Sonic use Chaos Control? There’s so much potential.

@@cjthecomposer02 And there’s no excuse for them coming out as technically botched as they are when all they had to is improve the visuals. Those level result animations makes me LOSE MY MIND !!!!! I love how animated Shadow is in this game. They're finally using a bit more of that squash and stretch !!
Classic games got delisted when Origins git available for preorder, Generations stays up for now, so I'm gonna assume we're at least 70% safe. They seem to be feeling extremely well about the Shadow Gens part tbh, so maybe they will just keep it.
Something I recently saw that I think is cool is Classic Sonic’s model has been edited to give a cleaner 3-spine profile shot. The middle quill has been moved down to the bottom row and the two bottom quills have reduced in size so that they seamlessly blend into the bigger one. It’s personally my new favorite interpretation of the quill layout, especially for the shorter quills
Main thing that’s blowing me away are the visuals. It looks good. Shadow is also super expressive, maybe the most expressive animation of 3d sonic in a while, maybe ever. Seriously looks like fun.
Babe wake up new bickuribox video just dropped and honestly Sonic 06 back on 360 i used a save editor to play it and just gave myself 99 lives due to how bad the loading issue is. was gonna do a review. got sidetracked and never did that BUT i did realize that game would have been better if they just scrapped the live system all together. And honestly im glad they STARTED to do that after a certain point. i doubt itll happen but if they ever did rerelease 06 id say they should just get rid of the lives and replace it with coins or something for a bonus score or something to unlock items in a in game shop for never before scene concept art etc TLDR point is, Sonic 06 on console with a save editor to give you nigh infinite lives does make it a bit more bearable for the laoding portions
in terms of the length, since it's mentioned it'll be shorter than generations, i am expecting maybe around 6 levels, i feel like they are gonna focus more on quality rather than quantity, and i am totally fine with that, i think it's time that as gamers we start getting used to the idea of more bite sized side adventures in between the major releases, those side adventures maybe even being used as ways to test new ideas before deciding if they want to implement them in the major releases.
I was initially miffed when I saw the gameplay for the first Shadow level, it looked... empty (decorative wise). The design wasn't really Unleashed/Generations level of quality (more like Frontiers Cyberspace, which is good) but having Generations in the same package goes to show how different the visions for these games are. The game will most likely be enjoyable, but nothing can really replicate the older boost games.
Have you seen Fadel's speedrun of the stage? It's a really good showcase of how many shortcuts there are, and even still there are many more that he missed. Chaos Control can reveal secret dash paths similar to the lightspeed dash, and Chaos Snap can teleport through lasers. Given this is the introductory level for Shadow, I think there's some real potential for the later levels in this game.
I think it’s also that Unleashed and Gens were on hedgehog engine 1 where the boost was designed to be so exhilarating. Hedgehog engine 2’s boost looks a bit slower but this game has a pretty fast boost still.
@@EthanMallonee I agree, the levels are (or at least look) very engaging, there's no arguing with that. It's just... looking back at those older games, it's easy to tell the differences in enviormental design and enemy/hazards placement, compared to what we've got recently.
i have a feeling the extra stage and extra skin will both be tied in to Sonic Movie 3. they'll be some kind of area and set piece you see in the movie and then get to play through after its release - with the skin being fluffy shadow with the futuristic hover skates.

Confirmed to be the case, good call!
They remembered Shadow was cool, and based on the reactions I’ve seen it seems many people remembered as well. Cannot wait to play this.

Another example: Criterion Collection’s Godzilla (1954) release where you have the King of the Monsters US re-edit and the original, superior Gojira cut. The Japanese original might be the better version but having the US edit is nice to have if you want to go and watch it.

@@CardCaptorDeadpool I feel the same way
Gonna just document info we have based on questions you have that you might've missed:
-Old controls for og Gens is an option (no comment on bringing lives back)
-Shadow zones have 2 acts: 1 that's entirely 2D and 1 that's entirely 3D (like the base game but actually 3d levels lol)
-They confirmed that the game will have side challenges for levels like base gens, I'm assuming that factors into Izuka's playtime comment
-On the acts thing, given that we've seen 3 separate zones and a boss that means atm we have 6 levels and at least 2 bosses confirmed (Biolizard and assumedly a final boss of some kind)
Except for the humans. But yeah I don't mind enviroments in Sonic looking somewhat realistic
I always thought it looked good, compared to shadow the hedgehog and Heroes that game 100% looked next generation
That means a lot, thank you
Honestly I'm just as excited for the mods as I am for the game itself. Can't wait.
afaik this remaster is based on HE2, the version of the engine used in Forces & Frontiers.
The sonic forces level is impossible because shadow generations takes place during sonic generations itself
OG Generations has a HUGE modding scene- it would be a major bummer if Sega delists the original, and then all of those mods would become obsolete

@rayvenkman2087 no, Frontiers didn't make it *_"Better"_*
Apparently Classic Sonic will also get a Legacy Skin
And according to some leaks we had some months ago, the game was finished already, so no worries about them releasing an unfinished game and updating later to make it "complete", but I really DO hope the additional level gets released as a separate DLC as well, even if paid
Also, I'm hoping that this extra level is idk, a Forces level, it wouldn't be possible to do in the main story because the game is set prior to Forces, but it would be cool to see a Forces Stage redone, and even better, if it is a single extra stage with a single extra boss, and if Mephiles actually gets into the regular game, that extra boss could be Infinite

I have a gut feeling that the extra skin and DLC level might be Movie 3 related since the 3rd movie is coming out Holiday season it would make sense
6:23 And they did. Can't wait to finally fight Mephiles for the first time!
Given how long the FIRST level was, I'm not even worried about the length of the game. ESPECIALLY since the original Gens only had about 18 main line acts. 9 of which were Classic Sonic stages. So, yeah, I'm not worried about the length unless it's like 2 levels.
Imagine if this is the only long level in the game
@@purplebruh947 The others are probably 2 mins
BTW I forgot what site mentioned it but you can change the controls for Sonic Generations between the original controls and Frontiers style controls, with Shadow Generations being exclusively Frontiers controls (aka Boost with RT, Homing Attack with jump and an extra button, etc)
Edit: Also another interview confirmed that each stage has Two Acts like OG Generations, one Act being fully 3D while the other Act is fully 2D
Edit 2 (I’m sorry): The PSN store and Steam pages confirm the bonus Shadow skin in the Deluxe Edition is separate from the Terios skin
So you mean like Rush?
Regarding Edit 1:
Datamine from the trailer shows a 3D section in Rail Canyon Act 2, so the Act 2s could be mixed like Modern Sonic.
U can’t escape from the superstars video
for the argument of adding dlc stages, i think it would be awesome for the stages from the 3ds version of generations to come back to represent that version and make it kind of an "ultimate" version of generations
Modern sonic for some reason has a drop dash/ roll, and classic sonic has the drop dash too and a different 3D model
The frontiers delay on the homing attack doesn't seem to be there as seen by Fadel homing onto the meteors, Choctopus was just slow.
technically "the ark" is a remix of final rush itself, albeit it's more subtle about being a remix by being slowed down and reverbed, so i don't think we can expect it to be in when final rush is already remixed. who knows what act 2's track could be, though...
it should probably be mentioned that the terios skin and all the other stuff on the left side of the screen is a bonus for the digital deluxe edition only, not just for preorder
I think the extra level and skin are probably a Movie shadow skin and level because it comes out in holiday 2024 just like movie 3
the "iizuka bazooka" is an insane nickname
I am extremely glad that Sega has (hopefully learned) from Colors Ultimate and have just ported the game to modern systems with enhancements here and there. I am hyped for this game's release and cannot wait to play it!

in terms of the length, since it's mentioned it'll be shorter than generations, i am expecting maybe around 6 levels, i feel like they are gonna focus more on quality rather than quantity, and i am totally fine with that, i think it's time that as gamers we start getting used to the idea of more bite sized side adventures in between the major releases, those side adventures maybe even being used as ways to test new ideas before deciding if they want to implement them in the major releases.

I was waiting for this moment
I initially thought it was gonna be a soulless rerelease w a shadow skin but with actual gameplay being shown this shadow side story looks AWESOME
It’s not supposed to be a pure boost game, it’s that mixed with adventure elements
