We will cast on together on 8th October and knit throughout the month of October as Westknits releases a section of the pattern each week until the final design is revealed. The Mystery Shawl is a complete surprise, so when you sign up you just know what types of yarn you need and then Westknits entertains you with a beautiful show-stopping shawl.
It's the biggest and most entertaining knit along that Westknits hosts, so this event is not to be missed. You are sure to learn new techniques and receive lots of inspiration from all the colourful shawls knit by thousands of MKAL participants from all over the world.

And you talking about the purple crowd, as part of the blue crowd I'd say there are some gorgeous blues in there too! Haha but honestly not even just an option for everyone, but multiple options for everyone!

We have similar tastes Elaine: the Burgundy steel would make a classic shawl, also the Crab Call and I am digging Salmon Sorbet and the yellow pink orange muted blush towards the end. So many choices ! I have watched the video several times already

I love golden colors, so there will be A LOT of kits that have gold saffron and rusty tones in them. We are also receiving some La Bien Aimée kits very soon, so you'll have lots of beautiful options to choose from.

I love too many of your kit choices. Ahh, I can't decide. I want them all, and then you had to show the cotton blend which is perfect for South Florida but that didn't help either because I now can't decide if it would be better to make one that I can wear most of the year or do I want one for when I'm cold. Ahh!

I definitely have some merino options, but I'm wondering how will this play with a completely unexpected and different personality fiber such as linen/cotton blend? Is it a risk I'm willing to take??

LoveLoveLove these kits! I´m just ondering...Are people yellowshy in general? There might be bit of yellow here and there but rarely a yellowbomb. There are some fantastic yellow kits, but they are the pop against gray or green... Am I the only yellowaholic around?
I LOVE yellow! It's my favorite color! I usually use yellow as an accent so most of the yellow kits feature one or two shades of yellow along with other contrasting tones. You can go full on with your shades of yellow for Shawlography.

Glad to know some tags will be available separately. Not sure if I'll go for a kit but when I did the Hiberknitalong, I made my own kit and would have loved to add the tag.
That being said, I love the kits! Especially those with BRIGHT or NEON pops!!! And pink :)

Yes, I only showed about half of the kits here and there are several green kits that will appear on Wednesday. I will post more photos of our MKAL kits on Instagram tomorrow and Wednesday. :)
May I use my own yarn to knit in the shawlography knit along?
Yes! You can use any yarn to participate.
I was given the lava lake yarn and pattern as a gift, but could I use the yarn for the shawlography or is it not contrast-y enough?
I could just go and stashdive, though...
I would go more contrasty for this knit along to emphasize the stitch patterns and details more

This knit along will have a lot of different techniques in it, but I include detailed video tutorials along the way so I would still encourage adventurous beginners to participate and learn lots of new skills with my step by step videos.
