How is it that you are not famous yet !!!??? You have been on yt for long enough now and have tons of videos that my like list is nearly out of room with all your videos. It takes me a moment now to find the vids i am looking for when i start a new project. I have yet to find anything to address you with in concerns of your techniques to be in error or lacking. I would know because im still a novice knitter and when people leave out important detail i know right away because i find self at loss of what to do and when i address my concerns to the crafter , i rarely get any reply back. Your information is gold because i cannot even get this kind of help from knitting books nor at the crafting store in person these days. Find more about those symmetrical increases under the name Twincrease: because the two new stitches are identical, they are called Twins :))). The symmetrical decreases are often called Bunny Ears decreases...
Back then when you made the bunny ears tutorial I asked you about a corresponding centered increase, and you couldn't think of one. Love seeing that your own knitting repertoire is growing, too... 😊 Back then I was hoping for a neat way to switch from 1x1 or 3x1 ribbing to 2x2, which of course would mean using one of these techniques for purl stitches. I might knit a swatch now just because I'm curious to see if that works out!

Once again, Norman, you have found some great ideas that are easy to incorporate. These are especially helpful right now, I think, as so many of us are midway through our holiday projects!! The neckline hack with the crochet hook is terrific! I actually like the little frame it creates. The brilliant one for me is the centered increase/decrease. This is perfect for the stuffed toys I love to make. Thank you!! The hack I love is using a contrasting piece of yarn as your row counter. Place it across say your 5th row between two stitches, let it drop to the back, and keep knitting. When it looks like you've knit another 5 rows, do a quick count to be sure, then bring the end of that yarn up, and drape it between two stitches, letting it fall to the front. (Over several rows, it looks like a basting stitch running through your work.) If you've gone too many rows, you just pull through the lower row where it should be using a crochet hook or yarn/tapestry needle. It's very easy to do, you can tell at a glance how may rows you've got, and it's right in your work. So you don't need to carry a row counter with you (I don't like using counters that sit on the needle) or worry if you've recorded every row and end up having to count them manually. Also, if the yarn is too short for all the rows (like when knitting a blanket), just tie another piece to it and keep going. Most counters only have two numbers, so if you knit more than 100 rows, you have to remember to add that 100 to the final count.
Oh my goodness - once again, Norman, you have changed my life!! I almost always knit sweaters in the round, and sweaters have such long cast-ons. Now matter how careful I am or what technique I use, inevitably I end up with a twisted join. And of course, with so many stitches, it's very hard to spot the problem until you've knit a row or two - a nightmare. Now I don't have to rip everything out (several times 🙄) to fix the problem! This technique alone is going to save me so much time and aggravation. You are a treasure! ❤️ All the other tips are great, also. The trick for starting a new yarn at the beginning of a row is so clever, and eliminates having to deal with the first stitch being unanchored and loose - plus the bonus of one less end to tidy up later. I also love the non-leaning increase and decrease. When I'm knitting socks toe-up, I use a sequence of individual staggered increases near the beginning and end of each side to get a nice round shape. I don't really like the way slanted increases look in this case, so the straight decreases should be perfect. Thank you, Norman. I always learn so much from you, and just seeing you and hearing your voice makes me happy! 💕

I just love the way you have picked up stitches around the neck,it would stop it stretching over time,loooks a lot neater than just picking up the stitches as normal,this could be used to sew a zip into a garment by just sewing into the chain stitch as well❤❤❤

One last comment sorry :) I am glad you included some crochet technique into your tutorial demonstrations. I have always encouraged others who are starting out with knitting to learn basic crocheting and tunisian crochet for these very reasons you displayed here with irreplaceable techniques for quality results that require a crochet with knitting. Anyone who is learning crochet i also encourage to learn knitting also tunisian crochet. All 3 together will always be a beneficial craft. Some of the most remarkable masterpieces i have seen also tunisian crochet and crocheted and knit hybrid all three together in one piece. Now having seen these life hacks i am all the more glad i learned all three crafts.
I've received some helpful tips just in time. I'm currently knitting a sweater from the top down for the first time and I'll need to pick up stitches for the sleeves and collar. I'll make sure to keep my crochet hook nearby for that purpose. Since I also crochet, I don't think it will be too challenging to integrate it into my knitting. Thanks a lot!"

I just discovered your channel and I am so glad that I did, I'm in my sixties and I am about to return to knitting, I was used to knitting flat individual pieces for a garment, knit from the bottom up, round needles were only used for socks, but now most patterns are knit from top down, so I must challenge myself.

Now matter how careful I am or what technique I use, inevitably I end up with a twisted join. And of course, with so many stitches, it's very hard to spot the problem until you've knit a row or two - a nightmare. Now I don't have to rip everything out (several times 🙄) to fix the problem! This technique alone is going to save me so much time and aggravation. You are a treasure! ❤️
All the other tips are great, also. The trick for starting a new yarn at the beginning of a row is so clever, and eliminates having to deal with the first stitch being unanchored and loose - plus the bonus of one less end to tidy up later. I also love the non-leaning increase and decrease. When I'm knitting socks toe-up, I use a sequence of individual staggered increases near the beginning and end of each side to get a nice round shape. I don't really like the way slanted increases look in this case, so the straight decreases should be perfect.

I just love the way you have picked up stitches around the neck,it would stop it stretching over time,loooks a lot neater than just picking up the stitches as normal,this could be used to sew a zip into a garment by just sewing into the chain stitch as well❤❤❤

One last comment sorry :) I am glad you included some crochet technique into your tutorial demonstrations. I have always encouraged others who are starting out with knitting to learn basic crocheting and tunisian crochet for these very reasons you displayed here with irreplaceable techniques for quality results that require a crochet with knitting. Anyone who is learning crochet i also encourage to learn knitting also tunisian crochet. All 3 together will always be a beneficial craft. Some of the most remarkable masterpieces i have seen also tunisian crochet and crocheted and knit hybrid all three together in one piece. Now having seen these life hacks i am all the more glad i learned all three crafts.

I've received some helpful tips just in time. I'm currently knitting a sweater from the top down for the first time and I'll need to pick up stitches for the sleeves and collar. I just discovered your channel and I am so glad that I did, I'm in my sixties and I am about to return to knitting, I was used to knitting flat individual pieces for a garment, knit from the bottom up, round needles were only used for socks, but now most patterns are knit from top down, so I must challenge myself.
Tried the tip for starting a new color and I am amazed at how great that works! Thank you!
