I love your MKALS because I do SAY YES because I don’t know what to expect. So, I dive in and whatever you throw at us, I’m all in as opposed to looking at a pattern and saying, “oh that’s too complex for me, i can’t do that.” I’m still working on the Slipstravaganza, and I’m loving seeing all the exciting things I’ll be doing!
Ok, I signed up! I had no intention to, I’ve been hearing and seeing plenty about this MKAL, but was just watching out of general knitting interest. Then I somehow got taken in by Stephen, his sweet little dog, and the beautiful dancing. 💛🧶💛
I can't wait this will be my first knit-along. I love your patterns. I have my yarn and stitch markers but I forgot to check for the needles. I'll have to do that as soon as I get home. I am a beginner so I'm nervous, but whatever the outcome it will be fantastic.

I CAN HARDLY WAIT TO CAST ON! I finalized my yarn choice last week, and my fingers got antsy, so I made a hat. Then I cast on a honeycomb scarf, and am 3/4 done knitting it. (I love it, such a nice pattern, thanks!)
Thanks so much Stephen for sharing your creativity and your warmth..I miss my dance community that got knocked out by covid..(contact improv and ecstatic dance in Toronto)...then I moved away, missing the dance that is being rebuilt, and leaving my in person knit friends..it means a lot to me to be able to join your wonderful shawl making dance!
Last yr was my 1st experience doing one of your MKALs while also still learning to knit. I only knew how to knit and purl but decided with the help of YT I’d figure it out lol it made sense in my head since I learned to crochet using YT videos 😂 My shawl didn’t turn out perfect by any means but I’m happy with it because I actually did it(and it’s a Stephen West’s pattern which is totally 😎 to me!!) I learned so much making it and can’t wait to see what I learn with this next one! Thank you so much for sharing your amazing talent with the world❤️

I just found West’s designs from a TH-camr who did the shawlography. I love a lot of the designs on Ravelry and plan on doing next year’s MKAL, while I don’t love this year’s I think it would have been fun and a great learning opportunity.
This will be my first of your projects, and my first MKAL. I've done a sort of collaboration before, where we each made a throw with a similar theme but our own design, and it was so much fun. I anticipate even more excitement and inspiration with this, can't wait!

This is my first mystery knitalong too, so I am hoping to embrace the pace and no stress say yes- so exciting! I so loved watching the interpretive dance showcasing all Steven’s beautiful shawls. I keep wondering who rewinds all those mixed up skeins of yarn? I can’t stop myself cringing and seeing all those tangled expensive yarns-as a pensioner on a limited budget, I rewind EVERY bit of yarn barf- old habits die hard. Now this old bird dog is getting ready to learn new tricks with Steven West!
I certainly “embrace my own pace” with your shawls. I always have great intentions to stay on track and finish not long after the last clue comes out, but then life seems to happen! I just finished last year’s MKAL, which is just fine. I’m looking forward to this year and seeing if I can stay on pace. But if not that will be just fine. Especially since I won’t be able to start on the 8th because I have tickets to a show that evening after work.

Stephen, i love your artistic expression with your shawl designs...i've been designing my own inspired by the Zodiac....i've done Aries, Taurus and Aquarius already...currently working on Gemini and Leo....you style has inspired me to try to think outside the box and come up with unusual shapes and patterns and color combinations....i am red-green colorblind, so some of my combinations are a bit unusual....my mom likes simple designs and she keeps telling me that it's too much, people won't buy my patterns, and that i need to cut back....i keep telling her that's her opinion and i didn't ask for advise because when most artists were alive like Vincent Van Gough for example, they are not appreciated because other people just don't understand their ARTISTIC EXPRESSION until they really sit down and study it....but she keeps nay saying and trying to bully me into designing simple shapes....got any advice on how to get through to my mom that i am the artist and it's my design....i even told her a few times that if she wants simple then she can design her own....but all in all, i really love your designs....the painted honey comb technique you have brought tears to my eyes the first time i saw it because i thought it was the most beautiful knitting design i had ever seen....and when you wear it....awesome....beautiful knitwear juxtaposed against a gorgeous face 😎🥰🥰🥰

I have done KALs but never a MKAL because I’m very picky on the yarns and designs for shawls but I’ve made several west knits patterns and loved them so I’m getting out of my comfort zone. Wish me luck in just letting go and just knitting on the fly.

I wish you had shared techniques to be used. There are a few techniques that are just not worth my struggle. I will wait a few weeks and see the process. Thanks!
if it helps last year there were alternatives to some techniques, and most were simple pick up and slip stitch techniques, but the effects look really complicated.
If there’s brioche I’ll give an alternative, but the techniques won’t be too difficult and there will be detailed video tutorials along the entire way to make everything super clear and easy to follow.
