CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Frank (Jean-Claude Van Damme) uses a quarter trick to settle a dispute with Hossein (Bernard Mariano) over the affection of Janice (Leah Ayres).
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Jean-Claude Van Damme makes his starring debut in the aptly titled Bloodsport. An American soldier at large in Hong Kong, Van Damme becomes involved in the Kumite (also spelled Kumatai), a highly illegal kickboxing competition. Whoever survives the bout will be crowned Kumite champion of the world-a title that has plenty of challengers with homicide in their hearts. The finale offers a duel to the death (or near-death) between Van Damme and reigning Kumite king Bolo Yeung. The script is based on the real-life exploits of martial arts champ Frank Dux (who serves as the film's fight coordinator). Denied such niceties as production values, Bloodsport scores big-time in the violent action department. A sequel followed in 1995, inventively titled Bloodsport 2.

They were all fighters in a martial arts tournament where you can be killed plus they'd already seen Chong Li and some other intimidating looking fighters so the sight of Jackson probably wasn't a big deal to them.

I do not know whether any of you finally noticed that the coin had remained in Hossein's palm indeed. You can see the bracelet (probably made of gold), which was clearly visible on Sadiq's hand when Frank grabbed it (0:11-0:14) - thus thwarting Hossein's attempt to hit Janice from above. What is more, you can see a (lower) part of Dux's brown shirt opposite (or even slightly next to) the palm with the coin (1:31-1:34). Anyway, Frank had a different coin (silver-plated, instead of the gilded one) in his palm in the end (1:38-1:40).
The whole concept of this scene is just... lmfao. They really treated her like a gambling piece. If Dux would have lost, he would have just let that guy drag her upstairs? Or fought the guy and been kicked out of the kumite.

I learned how to do this trick when I was little. It's honestly a case of the hand being quicker than the eye. Usually I would do it with the gold one dollar coin and people always thought they beat you until they looked in their hand. You just have to already have the coin in your hand prior to the trick, it's positioned in a way to make it easier for you to grab and when you hit their hand, the quarter bounces up in your hand while you place the dollar in there's. It's not that hard. Just takes a little bit of practice.

I tried this when I was 16 with my pop. He gave me a 5 dollar bill. I wanted more. I bet him I could exchange that 5 for the 20 before he shut his hand. If I won I got to keep the 20. If I lost I had to do all sorts of house chores for free for 2 weeks. I raised my right hand with the 5 in it. I asked him was he ready. Before he could say go I grabbed the 20 with my left hand, threw the 5 on him, and took off running. I heard "Come back here or your grounded!" I acted like I didn't hear it and kept running. When I got back home I almost got a spanking, but my mom told him no because I won the bet, mind you it was a little shady. Still got grounded though for 2 weeks. Had to mow the yard and do chores for free! Communist!!!

It's a small detail but I always liked JCVD's movies often made it a point to explain why his American characters spoke with a thick accent. Here Frank was born in Belgium until his parents immigrated to the USA when he was a teenager.

To those who are wondering: The first quarter is a 25 cent USA Quarter. Van Damme supposedly snatches it and replaces it with a 10 cent Hong Kong (Queen Elizabeth II crowned) coin.
No, the swap does not really occur in “real life.” If you play the sequence frame-by-frame in a video editor, you can see that all Van Damme does is slap his closed fist.
The actor is Bernard Mariano, who (ironically) became a successful Hong Kong magician. He has many interviews and web links online.
In a Mariano interview on TH-cam, he claims he taught them this as a magic trick.

So the trick is, the coin has one silver side and one gold side and Van-damme has another silver coin. He goes for his opponents coin , his opponent closes his hand not realising the coin flipping over in his hand from the silver to gold so when he opens it, he thinks Van Damme has swapped the coins even though VD said he would only take it, not swap.

I've been doing this trick for over 15 years. Yes I can do it I am that fast. Most of the time though I just grab the coin with no switch. To switch the coin you have to have a smaller coin underneath the bigger coin when placing it on the person's palm. How you only grab the top coin is when you grab the coin you have to tap on there hand lifting the top coin.

@@9some I explained it already. You place 2 coins on the person's hand. The coin you leave in the person's hand is always there, its hidden underneath the bigger coin the one you grab. You leave the smaller coin by tapping the person's hand, this motion lifts the bigger coin just a bit for you to grab the top coin and leaving the smaller one in the person's hand. Bottom line you "dont" actually switch the coins. You just grab the top coin
