2024 Tesla Model 3 First Drive | The Model 3 Receives A Subtle But Sophisticated Update

  • The Tesla Model 3 arrived on a red carpet when it was first introduced in 2017 and has only had its popularity challenged by the closely related Model Y. As much as it pains me to say it, 2017 was quite a few years ago and in that time we've seen very little attention paid to the Model 3...until now. The internet rumor mill was swirling and the Highland Model 3 had some hype to live up to. With minor cosmetic changes (typical of a mid cycle refresh) on the outside, a familiar but fresh new feeling on the insider, and and some quality of life improvements throughout the car the updated Model 3 may not exceed expectations but it meets them firmly where it needs to.

Putting the drive selector on the screen or, worse, on the ceiling (as the failsafe?) seems like a solution to a problem that didn't exist. But I'm sure they saved like 50 cents per car by getting rid of that stalk. 🤦‍♂️

It’s a solution for a problem, but not for the owners. It’s more about cost control and finding out how much they can get away with by selling it as innovative designs to potential consumers

Actually the “problem” as Tesla sees it is having to shift at all. These vehicles support an autoshift system which automatically puts the vehicle in what the car believes, based on available information, is the correct gear. As an example, when I go to leave my garage, the car automatically selects drive (I back into my garage) once I engage the seatbelt and tap the brake. (This is an opt-in feature.)

I just took a 2023 model Y on a roadtrip and it was an awesome experience. I loved being able to turn on autopilot from the drive selector and having turn signals gives your hands something to reach for in an otherwise very touchscreen heavy experience. I think that Chinese companies are still uncertain if it is worth the risks to enter the US market because they are busy expanding into other more friendly markets at the moment. Most likely, they will come to the US through production in Mexico.
But the Volvo EX30 could also show another way for cheaper EVs to come to the US, by being cloaked in a familiar and established brand. But it won't be the first Chinese made car sold in the US; per Googling "Just five cars sold in the U.S. are made in China: the Lincoln Nautilus, Buick Envision, Volvo S90, Polestar 1 and Polestar 2."

Uh, maybe tell the channel what Travis can improve on if you think he is so B tier?
Considering we get these detailed, trusted reviews for free, I'm not being that picky. Or rude

@@AAutoBuyersGuide But his influence is everywhere - cutting corners with removing features to save a few bucks, even ones that cause accidents.
It only took one person dying to get Chrysler to remove the stupid shifters in their vehicles that Getrag IIRC made.

Tesla is out of cars because Elon Musk doesn't want to spend THAT much time going into the office and and doing executive (execute/authorise) work. He told his engineers years ago to not bother him....if they can simply 'fettle unto death' the old stuff for as long as possible. Accept his word that it should be now looked on as an energy company. That's much less time' consuming and enabling much more 'research' into culture warfare .......poor thing !. Tesla cars are the equivalent of point to point rocket travel....... until it's seen through.
