is that the same 2.0 in the cobalt? the cobalt ss turbo 2.0 made like 260 hp stock. I've been in a 9-3 that had the cobalt 2.0 making about 300-325 hp. it was pretty quick.

The Honda K20A & F20C, and the Subaru EJ20 & FA20 are truly awesome engines. I totally am a fan of their tunability, reliability and sound (especially with modded exhaust). But my favourite is the Mitsubishi 4G63T. It takes tunability, reliability and sound to yet another level. It's one of my very favourite engines.
Hey VisioRacer, the word "beginners" is pronounced with a hard "G" such as "Guitar". Just a small tip, but overall your voiceovers have been getting very good lately, keep up the good work!

Few engines that I feel are good candidates also:
BMW N47D20 diesel, 220hp and 330lb*ft.
Nissan RB20DeT straight 6, 212hp and 195 lb*ft with an amazing sound.
Mazda KF-DE 60° v6, not huge power but sounds great too
WOW HONDA F20C no turbo required still makes 250hp..revv like a motorcycle assed machine!!

That's funny. Initially that's what I thought that noise was, it's kinda cool sounding though to be honest.. well...maybe not cool... but different.
The stock exaust of the TSI destroy the sound, it makes it boring as fuck, with direct flow 2.5 or 3" exaust it gets way better, but still it will never be like the SR20 madness wich for me it has the best sound among the engines on the list

I miss my S2000 so much sometimes. Bought it with 2k miles in 2004 when I wasn't broke and it already had a ceramic coated header and stainless exhaust. It was yellow but I grew to live that yellow thing. I especially loved when people mistook it for a Miata at the light :)
Got myself a Gt86 as Well mate, I always was quite doubtful since stock the engine is fun, but really weak, but I made a complete Overhaul with the Cosworth parts and wrote new software, now it has proper power and is extremely agile when revving it. Love it. I Also have a complete new Suspension by KW and 380mm Brembos at the front.

Nice video! As for me Renault Clio/Megan RS engine should be in the list. And Toyota 3S-GE (210hp NA) too. Also You have shown SR20VE in 1st generation - 187hp, the second niknamed "20V" 205+ hp. All three engines I used to own and they are great 2litre powerplants
i love the VTEC engines, they running just awesome in a light car, motorsport sound especially in the vtec range and no tubro that you have to worry about

Hi Visio, good to see you included the Cosworth. GM (Government Motors as we call them now) made a series of mistakes in the 60s and 70s. One mistake with the Vega model car was the silicon-aluminum engine block. There were no steel liners in the engine and it had a short life between overhauls. Sharp do-it-yourselfers back in the day could have a block sleeved or you could order a newly manufactured block that had the steel cylinder sleeves. You could buy a nice body with dead/dying engine for cheap and put together a great economical ride. Isn't this sad when you see what Cosworth technology could do to this simple little four banger. Once again, GREAT VIDEO man.

I love the A20NFT unit in my VXR. It's pretty punchy. Somewhat disappointed you didn't feature that or the Z20LEH from the older VXR too as those things were brutal once tuned!

Hi VisioRacer, at first I want to make to you my greetings for all your videos, which are interesting and well built any way. I'm writing to you because you are the only guy that can remember about italian cars from '90s, which are a bit forgotten for a not really high quality level of the interior. I'm a bit disappointed about this fact, because I actually think that they aren't everyone of those crappy old cars, and I still think that there are many good reasons to be interested in them. In this way, I want to say "thank you" to you to make people know that there are some good cars between them, even if I must agree with the fact that that decades is certainly not the best one of the italian automotive history.
Hope they bring back the S2K, would be nice to see a Type-R version =)

Greetings from South Africa. I think the BMW M20,B20 M50B20 vanos and M52B20 from the 320i and 520i are great 2 litre engines for their straight 6 sound as well as being small at the same time.
I'm curious how these new 2 liter twin charged Volvo motors hold up

Think you missed the Saab 2.0t T5 engines.
You forgot to mention the "Saab B204". The last engine that Saab actually made before GM took over. Only 205bhp in factory tune. But the engine is Cast Iron, with all forged components, and can be taken to 450-500bhp just by fitting bigger turbos and injectors. They will run at this power all day long, for years on end. Mapping these things is free, since Saab T5 is now open source with the aid of "T5 Suite".

What abbout the 2 liter cla 45 amg with 360 hp / 381 hp if you go for the 2016 model and above?
Great video Visio, and a really complete list. Not too many to be added - I think the M50/52 by BMW was left off due to the relatively low power output compared to others on the list, the same can be said for Mazda's MXR 2.0 (MX-5 3rd gen.). However, there's no sign of Toyota's 3S-GE (Altezza/Lexus IS200) or 3S-GTE (MR2) - the latter had strong power and decent torque.
The 20VT was used in the 2000's Marea Turbo (but de-tuned to 182HP and 270N/M) renamed to fivetech.
none of Toyotas 2.0l used in the Alteza (Lezus IS200)? I love that engine!

So what about the 2L from the 2012+ Ford Focus (SE and ST). It revs nicely and N/A over 3k RPM it pulls hard all the way to 7k. Nice sound and ridiculously easy to work on

Is the ej20 engine really displaced in the newer Subaru WRX STI versions ? Because in the video you showed the new WRX STI. Isn't it a 2,5 liter there?
Kudos for mentioning the Alfa Twin Spark, it's indeed a one which loves to rev high.
And yes, reliability is one of the main issues. My sister has a 156 with the 2.0 TS. The car hadn't been used for about 3 or 4 weeks, and one day I decided to start the car up to make sure everything is okay. Guess what, crank-no start. I can't figure out the issue. Initial thought was that the engine is flooded, but I'm not quite sure about that.
Well, gotta get the car running before my sister gets home from her trip 🤔😂

The 4G63 will always be my favorite. The EJ and RB20 are right behind. Being American, I love GM's LTG turbo 4.

Not a mention of the Ford DOHC? overbuilt so much it'll never break, more modern than the YB, plenty of torque and was used with much success in the Sierra Cosworth 4x4. Definitely one of the best engines Ford made, especially the YB wasnt exactly a full fledged-production engine.
So.... what about the 3sge???

FSI has it as well lol. I never liked it either until I got one. Mine makes more of a pop than the traditional fart noise. To each his own.
Might not be the best sounds but pretty hard fault for such quick gear changes and keeping in a good torque range. Actually deceptive quick for what they are.
Sgt. Gunny oh yea, the shift changes are incredibly snappy with virtually zero boost loss. I've noticed from a stoplight, I'll get out in front of people substantially faster with normal acceleration purely because the shifts happen so fast. There's no "down time" between gears.
EDIS Official ™ yeah I have the mk v and love it. Awesome on twisty roads. I ditched the suitcase muffler and put a straight through muffler. Actually made the upshift sound less fart and more pop.

Im an 86 owner myself and i can agree with you about the FA20/4U-GSE, very decent powerplant, and you should've added Toyota's BEAMS 3S-GE, not talked about a lot and honestly, its the only swap id do with my 86 tbh

RB20DET inline 6 is the greatest driving experience 2.0L can offer. The sound is intoxicating, great low end torque, and with titanium springs and retainers it will rev above 9K.
Shouldn’t the Kia 2.0 turbo producing 274 bhp on regular gasoline and matching similar torque be amongst the noted engines?

I've got 20vt engine on a Lancia and it's fkng perfect for normal driving and safe overtaking. Just have to get better bearings and seals for the turbo, as factory TB28 is prone to oil leaks on the hot side even short after regeneration.

It was also used in Lancia Kappa, both NA and turbo. But it's irrelevant because once again visioracer made a massive mistake by not mentioning the Fiat/Lancia 2.0 16v turbo which powered the Delta Integrale and helped it gain six consecutive world Rally championship titles. It was much stronger than the inline five 20V, tunable with racing pistons, conrods, bigger turbochargers, ALS, water spray intercooler, etc. up to astronomical horsepower figures, without losing durability of the block (700 horsepower? not a problem, see hillclimb racer Felix Pailer).
The Mitsubishi 4g63 was very much influenced by this motor.

Maybe some good normal cars 4 cylinder 2.0 engines :)? Those are quite expensive and reaaaallly hard to buy and keep them on track
I'm surprised the 20B, a Mazda 2.0L 3 Rotor, wasn't on the list. High revving, sounds great, and very unique.
Mazda 2.0 V6 found in the Xedos 6 - the KF. Brilliant engine with superb sound and proper reliability. The little engine that could... make every trip a memorable adventure.
The KF was also found in the Mazda 323f Lantis. I would argue it suited the 323f more, being lighter and having the option of a manual gearbox
I heard Fiat's engine once (it was Bravo HGT though) and it's really nice. Bad thing is I was at my house when it passing by.
My first car was a 1997 infinity G20t and they had sR20's in them. For an average little luxury car back in the day it was pretty quick. The Rev limiter didn't start until 8,000 so u could keep your foot in it all day

That was a good video man how about doing one about engine locations? From the point of view of handling balance, as an example BMW FR engines are located behind the front axle where as Audi engines are located in front of the front axle. The BMW has perfect 50/50 weight distribution and excellent handling balance and the Audi has for a number of years had a poor reputation for ponderous understeer with the exception of the fantastic R8.
I am missing the BMW M52B20. Not very powerful, but so nice to drive. I am driving the M54B22 and i totally love it!

Quick note : the golden valve cover you see under the S200's hood is an indication that it was an AP2 which had an F22, not an F20 ;)
