    I was just hunting how to cut plain vinyl when I discovered your channel. I’m a 79 years young lady trying to learn new tricks and I must say your instructions are so interesting that I’m hoping that you have more just like it. I’m new to scan and cut, it came with my sewing machine, and want to learn all about it. Thanks for sharing your time and amazing talent

    I have a BRAND NEW Scan&Cut DX230 Disney Limited Edition that I purchased last year in a box, has not been opened yet. I am have purchased the Vinyl Kit too. I am very intimidated tos start using them. I also purchased a brand new Brother Luminaire XP2 Embroidery Machine. I have never embroidered in my 50 years of sewing garments and everything else. I finally got some lessons from my dealer and now enjoying it so much. Now, it's maybe you that will encourage me to start using my scan&cut. I have also purchase the ironing gadgets. I have all the accessories that I need. I will continue watching your tutorial. Thank you for taking the time slow doing your tutorial.

    Plzzz make more video's on this machine. I bought mine 2 years ago and still don't know how to use it. The place I bought it from wouldn't give me lessons. They said go on TH-cam. But I've looked at 100's of videos. Yours is straight to the point and doesn't make my head feel like its going to exploded from unnecessary or dragged out brain numbing information. oh and I adore the skull bear shirt. Thanks so much for an excellent video :-D👍 Glenne

    I love your 💀 🐻!! Back in the 70's it was popular to get custom t-shirts made. We'd go to the t-shirt shop and the walls would be covered in dedigns. Like flash in a tattoo studio. Anyway, you picked out your shirt, your design and the guts made you a shirt. They had the big press type irons but it's basically the same principle. The thing is, those guys always used the old school style chalkboard erasers. The black felt ones. After they press/ironed on the design, they'd glide the eraser all over it to kind of absorb the heat, then use it to hold down the material as he pulled back the backing paper. I haven't tried heat transfer yet but I'm going to start. Thought I'd mention it as it might come in handy if you do a lot of heat transfer stuff

    By far the best video i have ever seen this is honestly the best video for beginners every other video on how to make a design and cut vinyl and transfer it to a shirt for beginners that i have seen are more for people that already do this and just want to learn a few more things those videos show you things on how to make a design that is wayyy to difficult for a beginner and they only show you how to apply vinyl using a cricut easy press or a heat press but they dont realize that a beginner is doing just that beginning so they might not have a easy press or a heat press wich makes people think that if you dont have these things then you cant get started on making shirts ... thank you so so much for showing everyone that you can heat press a shirt without all that expensive equipment and that you can doit with something you most likely already have at home this is exactly how a video for beginners should be excellent video man thank you again i am subscribing to you right now

    man, i've been staring at this machine for a while now... saw one at my local sewing shop, but they have the one preloaded with a ton of clipart, and want twice as much... the lady was pressuring me to buy it... then lied about how it has a bigger scanning bed, and other stuff... turns out, it's just preloaded designs... and i was about to order one, but TCL released the new 2020 tv's today, and i had to buy one... LOL... maybe next month....thanks for the videos... you totally sold me on this machine...

    The standard tack mat is used for vinyl, probably why yours didn't hold the vinyl well. I have found that washing the mats under warm water is a great way to remove any dirt etc and revive them a bit.

    Awesome stuff man, have you tried applique embroidery? That scan and cut will be so useful for that. I use scrap fabric and cut it to the shape of the design, then use the embroidery machine to zigzag stitch around the fabric attaching it to the pattern piece.

    This looks like so much fun! It’s amazing that normal people can just go buy a machine to make custom things like this, love how accessible it is to the public and not just to bigger companies or businesses. Also, I wanted to add that I love how you slap stickers all over your machines, wish I could buy them that way because I love stickers too but I’m usually too nervous to actually put them on things I own in fear that I’ll eff it up somehow haha. Maybe one day you can make your own brand of sewing machines etc. and have them come with stickers either already on them or a pack so people can customize the machines how they want with your stickers (wishful thinking)

      Tock Custom sponsors be damned! (Mostly jk of course) I like your more grungy/skater aesthetic and overall badassery compared to a pristine workroom, it feels more real and approachable, especially for guys that are probably interested in sewing and crafting but are maybe worried about it still being more geared towards women/grandmas. For weeding .. I find it much easier to do it while the backing is still attached to the cutting mat.
    Then peel it all off the mat and cut out individual parts.
    Haven't seen it mentioned in the comments, and I cut a lot of vinyl.

    Hi Tock, Brother has now brought out a special blade just for vinyl cutting and holder. Its finer so you can do really detailed delicate cuts in your patterns, also if you purchase the vinyl cut there is an activation card that releases more designs for vinyl use in Canvas and also a weeding box to use around your design. good video. Have you invested into the cricut easy press to help you with your attachment of vinyl , it produces easy, even heat much better than an iron and not to expensive.

    Like your sewing courses very much. Learned a lot from you. But regarding T shirts and cutting i have a few tips/sugestions..
    For weeding is better to use tweezers. To hold the material down try using clips similar like for loundry drying.. When pelling the backing vinyl off try at a sharp angle..for complex images use printer :)

    • @TockCustom
      @TockCustom  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much! Certain types of vinyl come off the film differently, so tweezers would be tough on this particular material, but for stickers and other soft vinyls it works great!. Also you're correct about peeling it at a sharper angle for sure, especially when using transfer tape on other applications :)
      Thanks for helping people out this this comment. Hope you're having a terrific week!

Just made my first pair of pj bottoms for our ten yr old Granddaughter ...they came out better than expected (🤣🤣) but the waistband wouldnt stretch any wider. Did I not tighten the elastic enough ? I only overlapped the elastic bout half inch before putting under the casing. Youre awesome Tock-thanks for sharing your talent!

    When you mentioned while doing the skull bear that some lines where doubled up, does that mean the blade will cut a thin line either side of the thicker line? I’m researching cutters to aid with creating stained glass patterns and I need the space to allow for the copper foil or lead that goes around each glass piece. I need that so the pieces start true to the pattern and are of correct size. I hope I explained myself. Your video is amazing easy to understand. This is the machine I’m strongly considering.

    I have watched this video at least 5 times! thank you for the much needed help taking the leap to vinyl cutting with my scan n cut! Any chance you make a video on how! to design the svg that you are wearing in the video? I watched the time lapse of it being cut and ironed but how did you design it? Or where can I find a design like it? Love your videos!!

    Would this be good for someone just starting out??

    • @mjuarez808
      @mjuarez808 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s a great machine. The best part is if your big into appliqués or stamping it has a built in scanner that can cut around the images. Works way better than the Cricut print and cut. Also with the auto blade you don’t have to select a material at all it’ll automatically cut it.

    • @TockCustom
      @TockCustom  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is one of the intermediate Brother vinyl cutters, but it has a wide scope of projects you can do with it. Plus I love Brother machines in general :)
      I certainly recommend this machine for beginners, or even people who are very familiar with cutters. I'm looking forward to showing what else this machine can do now that I have the full "intro video" out of the way!

    In the future I'd love to see a video or segment on vinyl placement. Despite my semi successful t-shirt making for friends and such, I struggle on how far down (centering is easy but the vertical placement stumps me) to place the designs. Especially for making a mens shirt because well, I don't have a mens' body and design placement will vary depending on the size of the vinyl, size of the shirt, and the body that will be wearing it. However there has to be some type of "usual" placement for these things. Help a crafter out Tock? lol
    Also for the shirts that have a one side chest logo, that's a whole process and I'm still not sure where the heck I'm supposed to put it.

    • @TockCustom
      @TockCustom  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh, if you're doing designs on men's shirts, just google some photos of Men's T-Shirts and compare the placement of their designs - I usually have the top of the design about 3 or 4 inches below the neckline depending on the size, but there are always exceptions.
      For small designs where a breast pocket would be - it's always on the top left - and the placement is usually about 3.5 inches below the neckline, and 3.5 inches to the left (if you're looking at the shirt, you'll place the design on the right side, so keep that in mind).
      Hope this helps! Have a great weekend :)
