My NMN Update | Recent Experiences

  • I've taken a break from NMN and NR, but recently decided to start taking them again. And, in the video I will share with you what I've recently experienced.
    Backstory: I began taking NAD+ boosting supplements in 2019, but it wasn't until Oct. of 2020 that I began taking them consistently. As of sometime in 2022, I took a big break.
    Disclosure: I work for Renue By Science and I share that in this video. I started taking supplements before I got hired with them. They found me from my videos on this. With that said, this video and all of the content on my site and on my TH-cam channel are my own.
    For anyone wondering, I am 41. I get asked my age a lot in videos like this. Although I like taking certain supplements at different times in my life, I still believe that diet & lifestyle are most important!

    Thank you Holly for your update! I have been using NR and NMN for years as well (no long breaks though). I do want to mention, I took the ReservaCell as well and it is the Resveratrol that makes you hungry - because it mimickes fasting in your body, from what I heard. I’m currently taking 250mg of NMN, every other day with 125mg of Resveratrol from Alive by Science. The other days (when I work out) I take 2 capsules of Designs for Health - ArthroSoothe- which has 250mg of Nicinamide. My joints and body feel good. And it’s not too much I feel. I’m about your size and also sensitive to most things. So I’m always experimenting with dosage:)

    Hi Holly...funnily enough that's my stepdaughter's name too, and I happen to get the majority of my supplements (sent to NZ) from the company you work for which honestly is also a coincidence.
    I started taking 4 of their liposomal supplements - NMN, Resveratrol, Defender and Activator - plus garlic and Neprinol (a blend of systemic and protease enzymes with cofactors). Almost immediately I found a boost in my energy and wellbeing and that has not subsided. BTW, I'm male, 55 and live a mix of IT work and farm life, so high energy is vital.
    I appreciate your personal insights and always look forward to seeing your videos come up on my notifications. Thank you for sharing and I wish you well.

      Hi Dave and thanks for the great comment! I am so happy to hear that you're doing well with those supplements. It sounds like you have an interesting life with the farm and IT work. I love that thanks to technology (for example: Starlink) someone can have a farm life or live in a super remote area, yet still do work online. It's great! And, your step-daughter has a great name! :) When I was a kid, my next door neighbor was the same age as me and was my best friend - her name was Holly. I only lived there for a few years though and moved away. Ever since then, I've never known or met another person with my name. So I am not sure how common it is anymore. Besides that, please let me know if there's ever a topic you want me to do a video on! 🙏

I already have limited time on all the other rabbit holes I'm involved in lol. I'm a guy… And what am I into? Micro needling face and scalp, face yoga, yoga, exercise, carnivore diet - 95%… It's insanity;) Ha! ...On one of your recent videos you spoke of wanting to get closer to God. It's pretty easy, I speak to him aloud as I would speak to any one of my awesome buddies - Unless there are other people around, that would be weird… But then again, would it? I talk to him as if he's in the room with me. If I see something cool in a movie I'm watchin' I mention it aloud as if he's chillin' on the couch right beside me. He's with us always. I've also had a guardian angel my entire life… He (or she - Idk) likes to play tricks on me, flicking screws off of my hands when I'm in the middle of a tough project, stuff like that. Hi Holly, great video.
    I had disrupted sleep every time I upped my NMN dose, it usually sorted itself out after 3 to 5 days.
    Also, if I took NMN after 2 to 3pm I also had disrupted sleep, I now take just after I wake, so before 8am; so far, no problems (it's been over 6 months since I made that change) and great sleep.

    Interesting video Holly! I started taking NMN & NR a few weeks ago and initially I thought it wasn't making a difference to me. However, starting this week I've noticed that my sleep has improved a whole lot and the only thing that I've changed in my life/diet etc is the supplementation. I track my sleep with an Oura ring and I've had gradual improvement in my deep sleep as well as a big improvement in my HRV. My HRV has been really low for months, so somehow I think the NMN/NR is helping my body better deal with stress. I'll keep taking it and see if that improvement continues!

    • @LifeDIY
      @LifeDIY  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That is awesome to hear, Rod! About how much are you taking? I know long ago when I used to take it consistently, that's also when my sleep was better, and I had such a high amount of deep sleep (also tracking it on my Oura ring). But, I am not sure if it was related to the NMN at all. I just thought I always had very high amounts of deep sleep. Since I just started taking the NMN again, as of this week my HRV has continually dropped little by little, now at 22. I'm happy to hear yours has improved though. I just noticed that my HRV was much higher all through the summer months. I'm going to keep taking this for a while, to see if I have any more improvements too.

    I took resveracel for a year and recently my normal nr ran out but i still had some resveracel left and started again. I think it hurts my tendons/muscles or something, i get mild "discomfort" in under thumb area palm muscle and noticed same in feet now last time i restarted. Happens after taking it for a couple of days in a row. I'm not convinced it's good to take quercetin for a prolonged period or it might be the resveratrol not sure?

    Holly , I think I made a similar comment to you before but I really wish you would consider taking organic psyllium husk for overall health . I know you mentioned potential kidney issues so I suggest that versus beans but one very possible reason you can’t sleep or stay asleep is too much adrenaline production going on. So it’s important to rid your body of excess hormones , not just adrenaline but excess estrogen and other hormones that are never able to leave the body unless they are able to bind to something in the GI tract to prevent the reabsorption of the the bile in which the hormones will be floating in when it gets to the terminal part of the ileum of the small colon. Soluble fiber is that binder or trap so to speak .The body reabsorbs about 95% of the bile and unfortunately hormones never get broken down in the liver so they wreak havoc along the epithelial cells that line the GI tract and trigger all kinds of chemical reactions , many of them negative . Hormones are also what this one nutritionist /biochemist calls nuclear receptors , meaning they are so tiny that they can zip through the nuclear plasma and get access to the DNA where normally nothing can penetrate . And depending on where along the DNA it hits, it can damage and mutate it hence causing cancer if it hits the part of the DNA that is the DNA repair sequences .
    I highly encourage you to spend some time listening /watching to this lady . Continually ridding your body of excess hormones, specifically adrenaline , might enable you to fall asleep and stay asleep . Please give this lady a listen , she’s not your garden variety nutritionist . karen hurd.
    On another subject , I need your advice Holly. I’ve been noticing more pores on my face and while I don’t like them , the itching of my pores is driving me mad. I wash my face carefully and moisturize it . I don’t want to use hydrocortisone like someone suggested because that probably wouldn’t be safe long term. Do you think something like the Molecules toner that you use before micrineedling would be useful to implement in my daily routine ? It’s so weird how pores can be itchy . And sometimes I scratch them hard and then notice wrinkle like lines where I scratched it. 😒 advice ? Thanks Holly! I’m 47 .

    I don’t know if you have tried this but the carnivore has removed many issues I’ve had. If not at least look into it, it’s a game changer. Still having issues with waking up early (wide awake immediately) I know many people with sleep problems lately.

    • @LifeDIY
      @LifeDIY  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you! Did your sleep problems start after you were doing carnivore for a while? I have been doing carnivore since June, though I'm trying to branch out and eat more ketovore, but having some problems. Some days I eat pure carnivore and other days I eat some carbs lately. The reason I'm trying to do that is because my sleep is killing me and it's been bad (waking up at 1 AM or 3 AM) since one month into carnivore. I can't handle it anymore. :) So carnivore has taught me a lot and helped in certain ways, but it's also caused me to have more food intolerances and sleep issues I never had before. I plan to chat about it in an upcoming video. Prior to carnivore, I was already eating very healthy and very low carb, so I experienced so many benefits from that in itself (I'm also dairy and gluten free).

    I take NMN for age related sleep disorder. It does seem to wake everybody up at about 2-3 AM for about 5 mins feeling ready to go but just lay still and you should drift off. with that being said my regimen changed when starting berberine (absolute miracle compound) berberine allows you to push through the 2-3 AM without waking but the trade off is a 4:17 wake up time. so bedtime is 8 no big deal. BTW berberine is everything resveratrol was promised to be and way more(SIRT1). Resveratrol is toxic , lessens lean muscle mass I suggest you drop it .

    • @LifeDIY

      Interesting! Thank you for sharing this. I have been a big fan of Berberine as well and I took it for a long time to help with SIBO. But, I don't need it now as my blood sugar is low enough that if I take Berberine (the last time anyway) I had an issue with very low blood sugar. I feel like it helped me a lot in the past though, but I didn't notice any impact on sleep. How much NMN do you take? And, I am not sure about Resveratrol and with some of these things, there should be more/better research.

    • @aronherman8576
      @aronherman8576 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      When taking berberine you need less NMN than without as it pretty much raises NAD to youthful levels on its own (as well as most endogenous anti oxidants). I take 1 gram upon waking when on berberine and I was taking 2 grams before the berberine and feel like that's enough . probably never coming off berberine 2.4 grams per day with some fasting and 1000 calorie workouts and have not had low blood sugar yet. blood sugar is only 1 of hundreds positive effects of berberine. I have hade tons of complements while taking it . Huge changes in my face 60 days in. I looked in the mirror and WoW I look so different now. @@LifeDIY

      I am not currently taking LDN, though I have tried it out here and there in the last 6 months, just to see if I would experience any benefits. I had such drastic improvements when using it many years ago and I am still a huge fan of it. I think that maybe my health is just so much better than it was when I took it years ago, so I may not need it now or may not notice much from it. If someone is struggling with an autoimmune disorder or chronic fatigue (and/or chronic pain) even if something is undiagnosed, many integrative health/functional doctors are prescribing it, just to see if it may help because so many people have benefited from it. If I were to take it again, I'd start at 0.5mg personally. I never did well with any dose above 1.5mg in the past. But, everyone is different!

    Your body could still be going through significant metabolic transitions and detoxification processes, Holly, as a result of your transition to carnivore. That could impact your sleep by way of a downstream effect. It's a big shift, you've made, after all.
    And you are radically changing your microbiome. Our microbiomes play a significant role in biological processes such as mood, sleep etcetera. It is probably still sorting itself out.
    Plus, as the candida component of your microbiome dies, it could release endotoxins into your system, which can be stressful. And if you go into oxalate dumping, that can cause anxiety and impact sleep, it's a common symptom.
    All possibilities when you go full-carnivore.
    I often think the term "keto flu" acts as a broad umbrella-term for all sorts of biological readjustments that stretch well beyond transitioning from carbs to fat as a primary energy source. People get through it, but it can take a toll. If a few rough nights are the worst you suffer, you have been remarkably lucky.
    On a more obvious note, presumably you checked your Magnesium when you had your bloodwork done ...? Low magnesium would 100% screw with sleep. Magnesium L Threonate is good for sleep. Some people mix it with L Theanine and swear by that combo. And I've certainly not heard any reports of it causing sleep paralysis, which is good, because you don't want to wake up with that fat little demon sitting on your chest again, or breathing down the back of your neck. Curse that tricksy goblin. 😃

    • @LifeDIY
      @LifeDIY  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great advice, thank you! 🙏 I've tried doing a lot of different things to fix it, but it's not happening yet. I've heard of others talk about this issue too. I am going to see if my cortisol levels are messed up as I have a very comprehensive test I can do. Other than that, I have also tried reaching out to some of these expert doctors on youtube as I'd like to have a consult with someone who has many years experience with keto/carnivore people. But, it's been hard to find someone available. So far my magnesium levels in the blood were normal, but it's possible this could be contributing. I'll keep an eye on it and continue to work on improving that. I can also try to incorporate something like avocado, to help my microbiome and some minerals or electrolytes.

    • @raceyjaseyAP50
      @raceyjaseyAP50 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@LifeDIY Yes, this is definitely going to be about constant experimentation. But then, isn't everything?
      There seems to be this notion, nowadays, that we can nail down the perfect human diet for everyone, but I don't think it exists, simply because everyone is different. I fully believe that there are people who heal themselves by going raw vegan, but I equally believe that there are people who heal themselves by going carnivore. Things like genetics, inherited microbiome and blood-type probably play a big role. And maybe we need different things at different times - sometimes we need to detox our bodies of accumulated plant-toxins; sometimes we need to detox our bodies from the toxic byproducts of excessive meat consumption. Our ancestors probably did this more naturally through seasonal eating.
      Good luck, Holly. You seem to be very tuned in to your body nowadays, so I'm sure you can crack this. :-)

      Hope you got some rest! It sounds like you're on my messed up sleep schedule. Some people tend to get NAD+ injections since the purpose of taking NMN is to raise NAD+ levels. It's really expensive, but anyone I know of who has had it done has been pretty happy about it and how they feel. I wonder how long that lasts.

    I've not experienced hunger from taking NMN, but I do when I take Berberine. For quality sleep and as a longevity supplement, I take several grams of Taurine twice a day which I purchase from a company called Bulk. It helps in the production of melatonin.

      Does the taurine have any impact on you when you take it? Does it give you energy/make you sleepy? I do have a bag of bulk taurine and will try it if it might help with my sleep. I keep waking up at 2 AM and I cannot fall back asleep.

      @@LifeDIY It's excellent for sleep. I take it twice a day, in the morning and evening. Apparently it's one of the few supplements that has been proven to increase lifespan. From the morning, you feel fitter and more energetic, my muscles feel more defined, but Taurine also "Biochemically, taurine activates GABA(A) receptors in a brain region known to regulate sleep, and it is involved in the creation of the "sleep hormone" melatonin in the pineal gland." I always have a good sleep on Taurine and wake up feeling good too.

    Someone told me that NMN might not be safe because tests showed the labels were false. Does anyone know about this?

    • @LifeDIY
      @LifeDIY  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Amazon used to have a lot of sellers who were not legitimate and some of those sellers sold NMN that contained less than advertised amounts, with a few of them being really low. Most reputable sellers (Renue by Science, Do Not Age, Prohealth), they provide test results for each product, so you know what's in it.

    I tried NMN for the first time this year, after you shared a great discount code in one of your videos…I think that was one of videos that might’ve disappeared.? I started taking NMN in April, 500mg of a day...Definitely noticed more energy, and it has helped me a lot with the long golf walks & gardening…How much NMN do you take Holly.?
    I’m like that with sleep…When I wake up I can’t go back. I have an unhealthy attitude with sleep, where I think it’s a waste of time, and that I could be doing something better. I know it’s meant to be one of the 3 main things we should get right for a healthy life, so it is worth working on getting enough sleep. I don't know, but maybe it's easier to get more sleep in winter?
    Do you update discount codes for NMN on your site, Holly..?

  • @StyleViewStudio

    Most likely you don’t need an NMN because you’re still very young, and there is a growth hormone that does its job beautifully… To restore tissues, and everything else…

      Thank you! I don't think I really need it much right now. But, it really helped me in the past! I had pretty low NAD+ levels when I first tested years back and when I first started taking these supplements. I should re-test and see how my levels are now. I bet they'd be a lot higher.

    … waking up during your sleep cycle is related to a cortisol issue … obviously I don’t know you and what is typical for your character … but you do appear to be very low energy and flat right now … have you tried some Benfotiamine ? It has helped with my sleep disruption patterns …

    • @LifeDIY
      @LifeDIY  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I used to take B1 and never noticed anything from it but I could try it again. And, if it's true that cortisol is related to my issue, I will find out. I have a very comprehensive test to do this coming week (Dutch Complete) and I was going to wait until my sleep was normalized to do the test, but instead I'll do it while I'm having these issues and see what it says about my cortisol levels. I will share that in a video in a few weeks hopefully.
