Thanks, Johnny. I installed this Scoche HDSWC-1 for my 2013 road Glide. This was a seamless install. It was only a few wire splices. I was basic matching wires, following directions and, wala!!! It was simple, and I had tried a couple other modules that just did not work/program right. Anyway. I highly recommend this. I only bought the hand control retainer module, not the whole install kit. My radio was already installed months ago and I didn't know about getting my hand controls back then. I am an amateur, but this worked perfectly. Thanks again.
+Jason Edgar I'm considering purchasing this for my road glide as well. I also have a 2011 road glide, its a FLTRX, is yours the same? I ask because the website says the HDS works with the FLTR but doesn't mention the FLTRX
+Jorge Villegas Yes it will work mine is a 2011 Fltru Jorge. I got mine on Ebay from road entertainment. The Scosche hand controls module is the same Volunteer audio is. Just make sure you get it and the mounting bracket all in the package or it will cost more.
The rear speakers are on the plug for the cb radio which you will lose. The plug which is not used. Cut the light green and dark green for the rear right speaker and white and brown for the left and splice with the radio wire which is not part of the kit look at the booklet I believe it is the purple and green wire. Not hard at all. Oh by the way thumb control will work check your connection. If you have the one with the phone , the microphone goes in the back of the radio. Otherwise leave it alone nothing goes in there.
Thank you very much. I was trying to determine what that plug was for and what I would do with the rear speakers. I figured they had to be in that plug.
Just found you video. I have the same kit from Scosche HD9813BN. But I have a question. I have a 2009 Ultra, I took the tour pack off and put in 5 inch stretch bags with speaker lids. Non of my wiring has been molested from the tour pack (electrical and speakers) tucked under the seat. How could I use the existing speaker wires for the tour pack to get sound out of the saddlebag speakers? Is there anything special needing to be done with the headset wiring or the steering wheel control for the rear speakers to work? I know this video is 7 years old and any help from anyone would be appreciated
I had a radio put in my 2014 street glide special and ever thing was working until I put it in the shop to change my front froks and now my radio controls doesn't work but everything else works on that side and when I brought it back to the shop they tried to tell me it wasn't working when I brought the bike to. But I know better. I feel like they didn't hooked a wire back up.do you know what I need to look 4 so I can plug it back in??
I bought a radio kit that didn't include the module (knowingly). I'm going to order the module separate and just curious what do you need the 1/8" audio cable for? Also, what does the blue wire that comes with module wire up to? Any insight appreciated. Thanks.
Hi,I have a 2013 Harley ultra. I bought the hand control kit as well. On the back of my radio, there were two huge plugs. The hand control kit plugs into one of them. What happens to the other one? It is no longer used?
I have the same kit. But i think i might have a few extras. I'm installing it. This weekend. Yes you do have to wire in the speakers and a few little odds and ends as far as the loops go you have to cut one or two or three according to whatever raido you have did you have the key wire on your kits that was wired to the steering wheel button wire that's what makes your hand controls work I didn't see that on your kid also did you get the cover that actually goes over your stereo with a rubber seal to seal out water when not in use or to block the Sun?
RCA black plug from the thumb control has been having me puzzled. Also the big rope of wires on clutch side that went to the CB (which i took out) connections of the OEM radio, I don't do anything with them right. One more thing, Will all this bother the security system? Thanks for your info, you r right, no info on this anywhere...good job on video!
Hello i added it to my bike and the handlebar controls are not working i have 2 question what did you do with the 2 key wires and the ground from the module everytime i hook up the key wire it brows fuses
I didn't do anything with the key wires. Sorry I'm not much help, I don't have that bike anymore to look too be able to help. I got my stuff from a company called Volunteer Auido. They have great tech support.
Does anyone know if these controllers go bad after awhile? My hand controls sometimes do not work. It works and then it doesn't but lately it hasn't been working.
The plug in the harness that you unplug from the OEM radio, plugs into the thumb control unit. Then the plug from the thumb control unit plugs into the stereo. There is an RCA type plug that isn't used in some applications.
I just installed this kit on my 2008 ultra and did exactly what you did. I also installed a kenwood deck as well. My hand controls are not working. I am wondering also if I need to cut and ground the pink and white wire. When I installed all of this gear I didn't disconnect the positive or negative cables from the battery. If anyone has any suggestions I'm all ears. Thanks
Thanks, that would be great. Did you have to do any programming of the deck after your install. Also did you connect the 3.5m cord into the deck? Thanks
Johnny this video helps a lot. except for two things. Did you have to cut a pink/white wire in the cluster on the clutch side? Also, where do i connect the ignition wire? thanks for your help!
I did 2 videos on it. One should show how I wired it. I got rid of that bike a few months after I made the videos. Sorry I remember enough to be of much help.
@@volfan1nga Back in the day Harley put a cassette player in their stereos. Yep I was on a friends Ultra and went to change the tape and the wind caught it. No pencil in the world was going to save that cassette. That was before the movie Frozen and I just held the tape up and let it go. My 09 Ultra has a CD player, of course it doesn't work.

If you don't mind me asking what store did you get your harness at I'm trying to put one in or find one for my 98 ultra
Great video and it worked the same way on my RoadGlide. Thanks very good video!

Which wire does the key 1 wire connect to ? Having a hell of a time getting it to work on the Kenwood......

Mine is just sitting in there not connected I ran different speaker wires to the back .I have 2004 ultra 8 speakers all hertz.
I also have 2 amps a soundstream and alpine 800 watts
I'm sorry, the rope of wires that went into the radio on the clutch side (right side if you are facing it) what do I do with them?
What kind of steering wheel control module is it

My thumb controls not working and where does the aux jack go
My adapter for bike didn’t have an orange on it but the stereo did! I see you had a connection! Any thoughts?
sorry, I don't. There is another video I did on this install that may help. I don't even have that bike anymore to be able to help you.
How do your handlebar controls work without the remote wire not connected to the stereo

i just put this in my bike, sounds great when bike is in ac mode but goes haywire when i start bike, any help please
Does anyone know if these controllers go bad after awhile? My hand controls sometimes do not work. It works and then it doesn't but lately it hasn't been working.
I did have to replace min once. Mine failed while it was still under warranty. Then I traded my bike a couple of years later.
@@johnmcma Thanks for reply. I'm just going to order a new one and see if it corrects the problem. (need my tunes!)
where does the black jack on the scosche plug in? I can't see anywhere it can go.

I didn't cut anything in the bike's harness. I have to pull my faring off this weekend and I'll look and see if I can find anything to help.
Thanks, that would be great. Did you have to do any programming of the deck after your install. Also did you connect the 3.5m cord into the deck? Thanks
just installed a new kenwood, with the hand control, wired everything as per video, the stereo does not have any power to it. did I miss something
It's hard to say for sure. Use a test light to verify that you do have power to the head unit would be my first step.
Johnny I bought the same adapter installed it and matched all wires for a pioneer radio and can not use any steering controls what could be a issue.
I have the same problem, did you found a solution outhere? TIA
Johnny this video helps a lot. except for two things. Did you have to cut a pink/white wire in the cluster on the clutch side? Also, where do i connect the ignition wire? thanks for your help!
I didn't have to cut any wires from the bike's harness at all. only wires I cut were on the adapter.
Ok. Thanks for your help
Which wires hook to which wires in the assy???
What store did you get the harness from
Volunteer Audio
You didn't show how you wired it. I did it but handle bar control not working.
I did 2 videos on it. One should show how I wired it. I got rid of that bike a few months after I made the videos. Sorry I remember enough to be of much help.
Did you remove the amp?
hello for a sonic what color yarn cut thanks
Johnny...did you use the factory amp?
I didn't install an amp, just the head unit and speakers.
Why would anyone want to trade out the Harmon Kardon ? Its a beast of a stereo !
+Doni5717846 alot more options with aftermarket, ipod, preamp outs, pandora control, sd cards, usb sticks
+Doni5717846 No bluetooth...
Not to be rude but 2004 ultra stock radio sucks !! The new ones are awesome
not plug and play if ur cuttin and splicing wires
I never cut the harness of the bike?
Just bought a streetglide and idiot put in a Sony , cd skips everytime I hit a bump !
I bet it does. I didn't bother with a CD player.
+Doni5717846 CD??? Aren't those the little shiny discs that went out like 7 years ago or so? :^)

Does the bass and treble controls still work from the handle bar controls ?
No, I don't believe they did. I Sold the bike a little over a year ago. To be honest, I don't remember for sure.
