    Thank God things have come a long way in the 5 years since this video. Now there are a ton of plug and play radios for Harley that keep the handlebar controls.

    Installing a Kenwood head unit on my '13 Street Glide. Had the wiring harness all soldered up and realized no place to plug in 3.5 mm jack. Called these guys about 5:30 Friday afternoon thinking it would be Monday before I heard anything. 15 minutes later I get a call back and Chris walked me thru exactly what I needed to do. TOP NOTCH customer service!

    Very good video for us electronically challenged baby boomers! Lol. Seriously, this is straight forward and a very good and detailed video, the best I found on this subject. When you order these items online, it is sent with a lot of items which you don't need ( he throws them on the floor, lol) which makes it confusing. A couple of minor changes I would make as follows: I would use weather proof spade connectors ( they have built in heat shrink), I would state that you could carefully use a heat gun on heat shrink tubing ( I would not suggest a bic lighter, lol), and I would use split wire loom to wrap my wires in ( instead of wrapping tape around them) just in case there was a problem when you hook it up or for future access to wires if there was a problem. I would all seal the ends of unused wires or spade connectors to prevent corrosion. All in all, this was a 4 star video Chris! Thank you...

    If I have the blue/yellow wire it says to hook it to the female brown wire and tape off the brown/ white wire. Then put the male jack included in the metra harness into the female. Just include that in the taped up harness. So I will not plug anything into the back of the head unit except the pin connection? The only whole I have on the back is antenna and MIC

    • @MrInterficiamus
      @MrInterficiamus 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you bought the ascw1 kit then the blue/yellow wire hooks up to the female headphone Jack that came in the kit. The bl/y wire hooks to the brown wire on the female adapter. Tape up the brown/white because you won't need it. Then simply connect the female end to the male end that came with the wiring harness adapter.

      This is a tough question to answer without more information. Does your ASWC-1 harness have a pink/white wire? The reason that I ask is that Metra changed their harnesses do make that wire unnecessary. Either way Ive got you!

    If wiring an amplifier into this same setup, would I then just not connect the four (white/gray) wires into the bike harness and run those to the amp from the head unit harness and from the amp to the speakers?

    • @FatHeadCycles
      @FatHeadCycles  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cody O'Leary if you are running an amp the 4 wires do not have to get connected to anything. You can connect them to the harness Incase you ever want to take the amp out. Will not hurt anything. I would connect the headunit to the amp with rca cables. That is going to be your cleanest signal.

    Is there a way to.unpin the rear speakers wires from factory harness ? Or.is it easier just to cut and slice I would like the kenwood deck to power rears and amp to power fronts and lowers

      I normally just cut into the harness that provides signal to the rear speakers. I just make sure to leave myself enough to reattach the cut if the customer wants to return the bike to stock in the future. Thanks for watching

    I have a 2013 road glide CVO You're saying this will not work on mine

      The issue with the CVO bikes is that it will not turn the factory amplifier on. If you have an aftermarket amp you are golden.

    Good video bit too much talking as opposed to getting to the install portion.
