The pre-weathering and the truck bed liner paint are both simple yet super effective techniques I've never thought to try. It turned out great man, as always
It came out better than expected! In my limited testing, it seems that even at its thickest, the spray results in a pretty fine texture. I’ve seen other folks us Super 77 adhesive to get a thicker, chunkier look for larger scale props. Just something I thought I’d mention!
Every prop you make just keeps getting better and better. Love to see the techniques you're developing whilst still experimenting with new things like the truck bed liner.
Such a fun project, it turned out perfect. I 100% agree, Obi-Wans is by far the best example of a Star Wars prop. Plus the Luke ROTJ saber was created out of the stunt Obi-Wan saber, it's the real granddaddy saber. Plus the grenade section just feels great in your hand. I painted and weathered a metal version.
Dude I love this! I've been obsessed with Obi Wan's Clone Wars/ROTS/Kenobi Series/ANH saber for years, in fact I'd say I like it more than the Graflex. The weathering job is absolutely magnificent and definitely does the original 1977 prop justice.
Another excellent build! I love alclad for 1/48 aircraft but if you are looking for a nice light reflecting chrome try AK Xtreme metal. A few light passes over a gloss black, let it sit for a few hours, then a light buffing with a t-shirt and you can see yourself in it.
You can never go wrong adding a lil more texture to something gettin gunked up! Had some left over from texture tests when I built the box a few weeks back 🤓
I’ll try that sometime! In the build I’m releasing this weekend I used 2k clear gloss over some flat black rattle can and then tried out Alclad’s “polished aluminum” on top. It came out waaaaay shinier and I’m not sure if that’s due to the different gloss base or the change in paint 🤷🏻♂️
I’ve got everything linked in the description, but I use a Anycubic Photon Mono M5s. These parts were printed at a .05mm layer height. I should probably get better at mentioning that in my vids 😅
What would you recommend as an alternative to air brushing when using the Vallejo paints? I don’t want to invest into air brushing because I’m trying a similar project as a one-off.
I should have a set of cheap brushes linked in my description. They’re nothing fancy, but they get the job done! I thin out the Vallejo paint with the tiniest bit of water and they lay pretty nicely! Edit: I’ll also add, that it will be pretty tough to get the shiny chrome look using brushed paint. Alclad (the paint I used on the clamp and the pommel) is strictly an airbrush paint. I did use Vallejo “Metal Color” on the emitter which does a semi decent job, but definitely comes out a bit more matte than shiny.
When i sprayed alclad chrome i could not get the reflection unless i sprayed it heavy and point blank. Everyone says to spray it light but it just doesnt seem to work.
I printed this model a few years back and it has been a bitch to assemble ^^ Still looks amazing ! If i only could get my hands an STP instead of STL files... I use CATIA for my designs and it wont let me use STL for modfying STL files :(

Thank you! The truck bed liner worked out so much better that I expected. Definitely going to use it more often!
The truck bed spray! That kicks ass. I’ve picked up cans of it and wondered a few times at Lowe’s. I’m BUYING it next time.

Thanks! I definitely feel like this was the culmination of everything I’ve been learning 🤓

Thanks! Hoping to put together a real metal one too one day!
Fantastic! That use of the truck bed liner is inspired.
Thank you!
That looks incredible!
Several layers of weathering really sells it
Thank you!

Thanks so much! I definitely agree that its the best lightsaber!
Phenomenal work.
Thanks!
CRAZY 👏🏼
Thank you!

I’ll check it out. Thanks for the tip!
Great job
Thanks!
Beat me to it! Turned out great man. Awesome project. It’s one of my favorite pieces as well.
Thanks so much! Lookin forward to seeing your build too!
so good
Thank ya ❤️
Awesome build and video.
Thank you!
Bro how do you think of this stuff? 🤯 The truck bed liner, would never have thought of that. Super rad build.

👌
I've heard that you can buff the silver paint with steel wool to get an even shinier silver look. I'll test it out sometime and get back to you.

I'm sure you've answered this a lot, but what printers do you use? Specifically for SLA?

Interesting. I’ll give that a go next time! 🤔
Am I imagining things, or did you have a graflex saber build as well? I was looking for it under your videos but it doesn’t seem to be there anymore.
Should be there! About three videos back
@@brungerbuilds thanks!
Do you remember which Smuggler Room video demonstrated the chalk weathering method?
@@spenceramandahowe6536 Not off the top of my head. I've seen him do it in a lot of his builds though.

Weird! I had no trouble with it at all aside from the threads on the brass neck which were a pretty tight fit 🤔
