I use iris hooks on every Flomax case. No matter what the pupil looks like. Even a big pupil. Flomax WILL bite you if you don’t do something. Hooks, a pupil expansion ring, something to control that iris. We have lots of patients who have no clue what meds they are on and when I ask them if they are taking Flomax or Tamsulosin, they say no, and they really are on it. Happens all the time. If you are a cataract patient, don’t roll in to the OR clueless. Take a list of all your meds and try to find out if you were ever given Flomax. Especially if you ever had kidney stones. Urologists often use it for that.
