4 Eye Conditions You Won't Hear About Until They Happen
Part 2 of my Aging Eyes series is here! I discuss posterior vitreous detachments, diabetic retinopathy, epiretinal membranes, and retinal vascular occlusions.
We cannot prevent aging, but we can take care of ourselves as we age to reduce the chances of certain eye conditions (like retinal vascular occlusions and diabetic retinopathy). Some (like posterior vitreous detachments) are unavoidable, but knowing what to do when you have symptoms can help catch complications that require prompt treatment to prevent vision loss. Knowledge is power! And knowing what can happen will give you confidence when faced with potentially scary situations if they occur.
The symptoms of posterior vitreous detachments and more serious conditions like retinal holes and tears and retinal detachments can be similar. It's best to see an eye care provider if you are experiencing any of these symptoms, especially because more serious conditions don't always present with the more serious symptoms, AND sometimes more serious conditions can develop even if they were not initially present.
Symptoms of posterior vitreous detachments may include:
Floaters (dots, lines, squiggles, circles)
Flashes of light in vision without an outside source
Sometimes blurry or distorted vision
Symptoms of retinal holes and tears may include:
Floaters (dots, lines, squiggles, circles)
Flashes of light in vision without an outside source
Sometimes blurry or distorted vision
Sometimes missing area of peripheral vision
Symptoms of retinal detachments may include:
Floaters (dots, lines, squiggles, circles)
Flashes of light in vision without an outside source
Sometimes blurry or distorted vision
Section of vision looks dark, shadowed, watery, wavy, or blurry/appears like a curtain is closing
Missing area of vision
Very blurry vision
See how similar they appear? Never wait on any changes in vision. Get that checked out.
For more information about floaters caused by posterior vitreous detachments, check out this video: th-cam.com/video/RVsXa62KddI/w-d-xo.html
Retinal vascular occlusions include:
1. Central Retinal Artery Occlusions (CRAO)
2. Branch Retinal Artery Occlusions (BRAO)
3. Central Retinal Vein Occlusions (CRVO)
4. Branch Retinal Vein Occlusions (BRVO)
Erectile dysfunction medications can double the risk of these conditions. What my video about that here: th-cam.com/video/n_Myjbj0Oc0/w-d-xo.html

Doctors tend to spread awareness about the BIG issues that affect the MOST people, and rightfully so. However, there are many other eye conditions that you should know about. Some conditions that seem like no big deal or mostly cosmetic issues can actually pose a long-term threat to ocular health, function, and comfort. In this video, I discuss 5 lesser-known, BUT STILL COMMON, ocular condition...
How To Know When Eye Pressure Is REALLY A Problem

LASER Floater Treatment: Pros, Cons, & Who May Benefit
มุมมอง 3943 หลายเดือนก่อน
Vitreolysis is laser treatment for floaters. It is somewhat of a middle ground between the extremes of how floaters are managed. (One end is very conservative, just monitoring the floaters and waiting to see if the brain adapts to them/learning to ignore them. The other is an invasive procedure called vitrectomy requiring surgical removal of the vitreous gel from the eye.) The data that is avai...

For being considered a fairly benign condition, floaters can have MAJOR effects on quality of life; therefore their treatment/management should not be taken lightly. The management options range from observe/adapt (actually no treatment at all) to surgical removal. Today, we are focusing on the most invasive, yet successful, YET risky option Vitrectomy. A vitrectomy is the surgical removal of t...

Thanks, doctor, for this detailed video on cataracts. My grandfather had cataracts, and we used Planet Ayurveda’s herbal supplements to support his eye health. Glaucoma. If glaucoma is diagnosed or you have determined by palpation that one eye is more elastic than the soft healthy one, you must take urgent measures. 1 Improve the rheology of blood and lymph. Strict minimal diet, no sugar, flour, potatoes, strong coffee, alcohol, etc., In short, DIET Diabetic 2 or similar, reduce the volume by 2 times. Cupping on the back daily, leeches, at least one every 1-3 days. Walking for 20 minutes, taking turns squeezing your eyes shut, squeezing fluid out of your eyes, and a lot of exercises to improve lymph flow and relieve venous congestion, which causes retrograde blood flow to the Schlemmow canal and even to the trabecular network, which mainly removes fluid from the eyes. .2 Contrast shower twice for 10 minutes to return the vascular system to normal and improve lymph flow, when washing the face, ears, neck, head, chest, lymph flow improves, and therefore the outflow of excess fluid from the eyes. 3. During a crisis, wash your face and eyes until the elastic diseased eye becomes as soft as the healthy one. Pathways for fluid outflow from the eye 1 Trabecular through the Schlemm's canal (main) 2 Uveoscleral 3 Uveolymphatic 4 Vitreal It should be noted the important property of the trabecular apparatus as a "self-cleaning" filter !!!, due to the transtrabecular flow of fluid, creating the prerequisites for the passage of relatively large conglomerates [80, 102]. Intraocular fluid passing through the "uveoscleral branch", i.e. intertrabecularly, does not create such conditions for the formed elements contained in it. "The possibility of large protein molecules leaving the cavity of the eyeball is due to the unusually high permeability of the vessels of the sclera and choroid due to the strongly expressed perivascular space. Large protein molecules are removed from the perivascular spaces by structures that are histochemically similar to lymphatic ones" [28]. Recent studies convincingly prove the existence of structures characteristic of the lymphatic system in the choroid of the eye, including in the ciliary muscle [75]. The lymphatic system contributes to the outflow of intraocular fluid, and the use of the term "uveolymphatic pathway" is justified [182]. There is a proverb - water will find a hole, improve the rheology of blood and lymph, improve the vascular system, the best is contrast!!! shower twice a day for 10 minutes, squeeze excess fluid out of your eyes, for example by washing your eyes every hour, and massage and squinting alternately, leeches, cupping, cupping, hijama, walking 10 thousand steps, exercise to improve the movement of lymph and blood, a diabetic diet 2 is a must to improve the rheology of the blood and lymph, and everything will return to normal.

Glaucoma... Most doctors are not diagnosticians and do not look for the causes of the disease, but treat not the cause, but the symptoms... And they treat according to the plans of insurance companies, and for them a step to the left or to the right is execution... And they do not deal with disease prevention and the eradication of the causes of the disease at all... First, Reduce gluttony, especially sweets, flour, fatty foods, alcohol... .. improve and strengthen blood vessels, improve blood rheology, and if you do not know how to improve the flow of fluid from the eyes and the movement of lymph from the eyes, then simply wash your face many times a day, sometimes with cold, sometimes with hot water, squinting your eyes, when washing your face, all movements are aimed at the outflow of fluid from the eyes and lymph from the eyes, even better is going to the pool, even better to the sea, but constantly diving and immersing your face in water, and then washing the water from your eyes and face. Putting leeches is just super, they improve blood, lower sugar, the main cause of all eye diseases ... Pollution, most often with blood of Trauber's spongy canals that remove 85 percent of the fluid from the eyes into the Schlemov canal, cannot be cured otherwise if you do not improve the lymph flow ... !!! Walk a lot, while squinting your eyes in turn, helping the fluid to come out of the eyes. Our blood is moved by the heart, and only large muscles work well with movement and various exercises for the lymph. Movement is life !!! You need to walk at least 10 km a day, if it is slippery, then do equivalent exercises at home squinting your eyes in turn, and doing other eye exercises, of which there are many on the Internet, if there is no eye injury, then a gentle massage of the eyes and around, if there is an injury or after surgery, then only squinting in turn !!! Rubbing the entire body, especially the neck, head and face, with a towel stretched between the hands, until the ears are red and burning, helps a lot, this is a sign of good blood flow to the head, and therefore the eyes!!! The rheology of the blood, and especially the movement of the lymph, is improved by the use of vacuum cups... th-cam.com/video/DWamy72Eamw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=qA5a5WfO97tMa253 Fyodor Karmatsky has a lot of useful information, including eye massage and the use of leeches, and a lot of useful information... youtube.com/@dr.karmatsky?si=BUedNs1K81YTbPnm Here is an excellent Doctor Bozhev, he recommends a simple method for reducing intraocular pressure, by palpation and squeezing excess moisture out of the eyes... th-cam.com/video/T6YuUCgTl5c/w-d-xo.htmlsi=pRQxtcYq9daiONB2

Best video I watched since my PVD started a few days ago. Thank you! My question is...I've had small unnoticeable floaters in my eyes all my adult life. I'm 57...are they the same ones or do old ones dissolve only to be replaced by new? Meaning are my old eye floaters 30 years old or more? Do they really fade in time? Or settle to the bottom? (that makes no sense). My eye is now full of pepper spots, a big "Jellyfish" in the center and a dancing string that actually moves quite gracefully and moves the entire space of vision. Still have the flashes too. Been to Dr yesterday - No rips/holes, back in 2 weeks. I'm in a dark place right now. This feels like a life changing moment....then I'll have the other eye to look forward to getting PVD.

I'm sorry you are experiencing so much fear, and I hope I can help to alleviate some of your concerns. Usually if the pressure is borderline with the air puff, we retest with another method called "Goldmann Applanation Tonometry." If you google that, you will probably be able to tell whether you had that done or not. It is the most accurate way to measure eye pressure clinically, whereas the air puff test is better as a screening tool. If they said the optic nerves look healthy, that bodes well for you, however you are correct that a family history is important to take into consideration. Let's say you do not have glaucoma now, having borderline pressures and a family history would definitely make me want to keep a close watch. 6 months is often a reasonable choice for that. Most types of glaucoma damage the eyes very very slowly. Blurry vision that comes and goes is not attributable to glaucoma, and very much matches your history of many hours of studying and screen usage-likely caused by a combination of dry eyes and eye fatigue. Glaucoma affects peripheral vision first and these vision changes are permanent (they don't come and go like you describe). I have a couple of other videos that explain all of this in much more detail, including one that discusses how to interpret borderline pressures like yours that I will link below. If glaucoma is diagnosed, then eye pressure lower drops will be needed as lifelong management (or sometimes surgical procedures can be used instead or in addition to drops). The important thing to remember is that glaucoma in most cases causes damage very slowly over the course of decades, and treatment and regular monitoring play a great role in slowly this process down significantly. It is rarely diagnosed at your age (usually in the 50s/60s). Video all about the process of glaucoma diagnosis: th-cam.com/video/D-tKtMWHNS4/w-d-xo.html What different pressures could mean: th-cam.com/video/wMwLJK1bjis/w-d-xo.html And here is a whole playlist about glaucoma: th-cam.com/play/PLanVeZ4mj9OtszTffL2K1NvRKC8TwhkQH.html I really hope this helps and I wish you the best in your medical studies!

But please i have one more question in the next two weeks i am going to check my eye pressure again with the GAT and corneal thickness measure and if my pressure was still borderline shall i accept the doctors advice to not take any treatment and just keep checking 6 monthly or shall i start taking iop lowering drops if he said? Wouldnt it be bad to start taking drops from my age and with knowing the fact that drops have side effectss.. And wouldn’t it be risky to just leave it as it is and wait until it damages the nerve and when that happens Then start taking treatment as some doctors say.. i wish i could visit you because my case is rare in Iraq and the doctors tell me it is nothing , but i cant be confident. • @dr.elisabeth7778
      @dr.elisabeth7778 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

I'm sorry you are dealing with this and dealing with the fear and stress that comes with it. It's really important to take steroid drops as prescribed after any procedure. Without them there can be a lot of inflammation in the eye that can lead to some pretty serious complications. When the eye pressure is elevated due to steroid drop use, it should return to normal after stopping the steroids. Since steroids are necessary after procedures, if eye pressure goes up the steroid will continue to be used with the addition of eye drops to lower the pressure. Everything you are describing sounds like the proper response in a situation like yours. Basically, once steroid drops are no longer needed, eye pressure lowering drops will no longer be needed and eye pressure should return to normal. Something to keep in mind for the long term: People who are "Steroid Responders," meaning their eye pressure goes up when using steroids, may have an increased risk of developing glaucoma in the future. This usually happens much later in life. This isn't a definite, but it is an important reason to get annual eye exams to make sure everything is staying healthy. I wish you the best as you recover from PRK!

Hello, so I’ve got glaucoma and my doctor recommended an eye drop called “ganfort 0.3mg/ml + 5mg/ml eye drop solution” I started last night but noticed redness on that particular eye, is it normal or should I give my doctor a call?

The industry makes a lot of money doing cataract surgeries annually. From the perspective of the profitable insustry, there's not a lot of incentive to find a simple cure is there? Sadly money rules.

I am not very bothered by my floaters but I am worried that my vitreous synerisis eventually develops into retina detachment? May I know how soon will that happen? anyway to prevent that from happening?

I've also read that one way to move the floater is to do eye exercises on your back, looking up and down rapidly. It's a slow process but the floater seems to be moving closer (or just getting bigger), though I am unsure what is actually happening. Have seen two eye doctors and so they've ruled out anything serious, just aging

Im assuming that since I have had eye scans done recently since i started to have 1 or 2 floaters and the scans showed my eye to be fine and healthy there is nothing to worry about?

The the U.K. it’s either National Health Service (NHS) or Private. Both are good in their own way.

Cataracts are reversible with N-Acetyl L-carnosine drops, I have reversed mine with them although it takes a while before you get full results, but you need to stay away from sugars including fructose and high carb diets and also take Benfotamine (fat soluble B1). I am also treating my dog with the NAC drops and so far so good the white coating in his eyes are slowly getting smaller and thinner, it is a miracle.

Great video doctor, thank you so much for this advice. Even with glaucoma for 13 years, this is all EXTREMELY important to be reminded of - and I had to learn all of these the hard way!

Thanks for the video! Lots of useful information! In China there's certain eye drops product (Amiotide Eye Drops) that claims to cure eye floaters. I was very skepitacl about it and then came across your video.
