    I HIGHLY recommend getting a prepaid SIM in your destination country especially if you're visiting Asia or Europe. It can be the difference of paying $15 for a 5GB eSIM(or even more direct from a US carrier) vs $1 for 200GB of data on a local prepaid SIM. The best way to go about this is probably to get a T-Mobile plan with included international roaming so that you still have access to your number abroad along with a dual SIM phone with either eSIM or physical SIM. If it's an eSIM phone use the eSIM for your T-Mobile plan because the physical SIM prepaid options are much cheaper usually and easier to find and activate.

      Great tip about the esim. As someone that just got a job that will require international travel when that is an option again I have been looking at T-Mobile and this is a fantastic tip that I hadn’t thought about

      Yes cause T Mobiles is a waste. Mine worked for 2 days then stopped working and customer service nit working. So now stuck in a foreign country with no phone/data service

      @@K9Trixx That didn't happen to me. I travel all the time on T-mobile (Norway, Thailand, Canada) phone worked. However, the speed is 2G at best (which sucked)

      Buy a DTAC international sim. Works in like 30+ countries and its high-speed 5GB per load.

    Thanks for the informative video. As of right now I am in the Dominican Republic vacationing and I have Visible. My friend told me that since I have an unlocked S21 Ultra, my best option would be to stop at the Claro in the airport and get a data only sim for 5 days which only comes to about $10 and its unlimited. However, I totally forgot, and didn't realize it until I got to the hotel. The amazing thing is once I connected to Wi-Fi my phone worked 100% with Wi-Fi calling. I was able to make and receive calls, texts, and MMs, no problem. And every place I went had WiFi so I was more than cool with that. Just wanted to throw another option out there for the Visible. Thanks again for the video.

    Coming after a year. A guy who recommended a local physical SIM card for travelling; since the iPhone 14 series in the US came up with no SIM tray, T-Mobile is now the best one who offers you the best international add-on deals if you plan to travel.

    I have AT&T and my friends have T-Mobile and Verizon. We went to Aruba a few months back and AT&T was the only one that had fast download speeds (40MBps). One of my friends had T-Mobile and was trying to use walking directions and it was simply unusable. If I'm traveling for a week or less, I just use AT&T's day pass and add the extra $70 to the total of my trip. If I'm going to be gone longer, then I'll just buy a local sim. Airalo looks interesting and I'll check that out.

    The T-Mobile international pass doesn’t shut down the data after the usage though. It goes back to 128kbps or 256kbps depending on the plan.

    Hey, Stetson. Do note that, AT&T gives Unlimited Talk & Text and data across Canada, Mexico and US at no extra charge with Postpaid and Prepaid, they say data speeds are 2G speeds but it’s not. T-Mobile has an $5 add on for Unlimited Talk & Text and 5 GB of data in Canada and Mexico, before it’s 2G data, I think it’s both postpaid and prepaid.

    AT&Ts roaming when in the old world may not be super great (though I love thier thier unlimited) but thier Canada and Mexico roaming is superb, and t mobiles is as well , main reason why I picked those two over verizon

    If you bought a phone from Verizon you also need to remember that it unlocks after 60 days, I would just highly recommend getting a prepaid sim wherever you go. Same thing with t mobile because android phones can be temporarily unlocked and can be used for a period of 30 days

    Wait -- T-Mobile for Global Plus 15GB and the Unlimited hotspot data in the US... so getting this plus Magenta Max would make it 5G Unlimited? One line ($85) and the $50 for this plan means $135/mo (I guess the $50 could have taxes) -- that's a really good deal, right? Especially compared to the others? I can't figure out on T-Mobile's site the tablet plan add-on being $20 and it not being clear what exactly you get with that -- so adding to phone and hotspotting would be the best option. Correct me if I'm wrong! Thanks for the great content!

    Hey Stetson, would you recommend Google fi for international plans? I've seen a lot of reviews about Google fi being the best for travelers. Just asking. That's all. US Mobile is killing it tho! Also Google Fi and Mint Mobile can be used for esim too.

    • @chickeneaster
      @chickeneaster 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I got Google Fi when I went to Nicaragua (I'm from there) to visit family. I had absolutely no problem with coverage and speed with Google Fi. I tried it with an iPhone and I was surprised that in the U.S. with Google Fi it doesn't change between the 3 networks (with iPhone) but in Nicaragua it changed to the carrier with the best network (there's only 2) but mainly stayed with one. So I highly recommend using Google Fi for international travel. When I go again in July I'm getting a Pixel 5 with Google Fi that I'm going to use specifically for when I travel outside the U.S.

    • @CtrlAltID

      I'm traveling with US Mobile in Germany, their eSIM International plan only connects with EDGE 2G speeds in Frankfurt downtown. Sometimes it even switches to a network with no data support. So far, pretty disappointing results with US Mobile.

    • @stormtrooper159
      @stormtrooper159 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have google Fi for many years now. It worked well on a pixel last time I was in India. But in my recent trip to UK I used it on an eSIM on my iPhone 13 (to avoid carrying two phones) and it never connected upon landing. I changed the APN settings, restarted the phone etc nothing worked. We needed data before we got out of the airport but nothing worked. We finally gave up and took the underground. By the time we reached the AirBnB there was LTE service working. But the next few days the service would go off and on at random times.
      Also their customer support is jacksh**t if you run into any problems. I upgraded my pixel 4 to the new 6a with a $300 trade in credit. But they never credited the money and kept the phone. Customer support keeps saying they are escalating to the specialists.
      I would stay away from dealing with Google and just get a local SIM/eSIM in your destination. It’s pretty simple these days

    you can just buy a local SIM wherever you go... SIMs these days are dirt cheap, for instance I recently was in India and bought a SIM for $4, that included 1.5GB LTE per day (yes PER DAY!!!) and valid for 30 days. Makes the prices in your video seem downright ridiculous. I was in Greece recently and paid I believe $10 for a 5GB LTE SIM valid for 30 days.

    In what world is 128kbps an acceptable speed in the 2020s? These big carriers should have a minimum of 512kbps when they slow you down as that is the minimum speed required to be considered 3G and is actually usable in your day to day....
