It is not mixed media but the use of letters makes it multi modality and hugely communicative to a visual audience both commercially and artistically. I absolutely love it

Hey Jean. I really love watching your videos, and hearing your family stories. I’m working on the scrabble quilt. I sympathize with all you are going through, and I admire all your accomplishments. You are a phenomenal woman, with a beautiful family. I have a not so large family. I’m making a memory quilt with about 5+ names. I have ordered 4 panels, but I have to order two more. I’m not so good on posting, but I will try to post a picture when I finish the quilt. Your quilt is so beautiful. Be blessed and safe.

We are all having brain challenges under the circumstances, your quilt is lovely, art is meant to be viewed from a distance. Your family memories are what is important. So good to know you are feeling better Jean.

This is a super fun idea. I haven't even finished your tutorial and I've ordered the fabric. While watching I started thinking of other fun things to do such as my grandchildren making one with all their friends....... Thank you for sharing this.

I decided to order three panels because I can use all the extra letters to make personalized pencil cases or pillowcases for my nieces and nephews for Christmas! Again, thank you for your enthusiasm; it is inspirational.... and I hope that is an affiliate link so you get credit for my purchase. xo

Jean I have only watched the first 14 minutes or so and I want to tell you how much I have missed watching your videos. I feel like I am visiting with a friend when I watch them and I want to thank you. I know I have missed a few and am glad that I have time this afternoon to watch you again.
I do not have a large family, so a family quilt would be quite small, but I was thinking of doing one with the names of places I have been as a personal memory quilt, or one with the names of local animals, birds and sea creatures for my grandson with images of the things too. So when he is older, he can match the word to the image.

Aw thanks so much Michelle! How sweet of you! Thanks for taking time to watch little old me! LOL! As you say, a quilt like this isn't limited to just family...it could have pets names, places you've visited and loved, friends, here now and gone from us....we are limited only by our imagination! Have a safe and healthy shelter-in-place!!

It's great. I like the candy colours and the differentiating rectangular borders either end bringing another scene to the format, Jean. The chunky red binding pops and the floral backing is Homestead and pretty.

What a neat and loving quilt. Oh Jean, that is so touching to me. Now i know this sounds 🙃 silly, but it brought tears to my eyes, i guess its because its a loving way to have family sewn together in a very warm and hugging quilt. Your kids and grandkids will know my precious mother and grandmother made this with her own loving hands thinking 🤔 of each one of us. 🤗

This is absolutely ingenious! I love it ❤️🙂 I only have my daughter and I. My cousin has a large family. You could use positive affirmations for someone, and use their name. Or, plug in a few photos that you can print off on special fabric you run through your home computer. It has to be the inkjet printer. ❤😊 I love this quilt Jean. You could hang this when you have family get togethers. Your kids love your creations. I love how they help you with your projects. Talking on computers is not the same. My grandmother had a pattern for face masks from the influenza pandemic of 1918. Oh, people who have passed would be stunning ❤️😊🙏 I have enough for a quilt that size.❤

Hi Jean I loved your scrabble quilt what a great idea to display all the names of your family, I did a memory quilt for my mother in law a few years ago & printed photos of her parents & siblings & children on printable fabric , I put a large photo of their wedding in the middle & all the other photos scattered throughout the quilt , she loved it I made it without her knowing anything about it ,& I might add she lived with us at the time so I had to do it very discreetly , she cried when I gave it to her , thanks for sharing yours with us , at least it gave you something to do while stuck indoors. Love from your sister from Queensland Australia xx

Wow, Jean - I got a kick out of when you said you didn't want anything complicated - really? lol..... I really enjoyed your tutorial so much, I watched it in its entirety a second time because there were so many wonderful moments. I don't know if you realize the emotions you bring out in your viewers. I laughed hard. And then there were heartfelt moments when you talked with much love about your family and how you miss seeing them in person. You're right - it's a family quilt - not a covid quilt.
I, too, would not have thought of the intersecting letters either. That's okay - it made your story of making the quilt more comical. You not only teach about sewing and quilting very well, but you also demonstrate not to sweat the little things and just roll with it - like the different size squares or blue showing through. I felt like I sewed with a new friend this afternoon as I listened while I, too, sewed. Thank you for being you. Kathleen

I have to say, whoever does your editing (if that's what you call it) of your videos, to be viewed, They do a fantastic job. I love how when they speed up the video they insert the squeaky music, it makes the video so cute. This quilt is adorable. You could also do a quilt using the names of all your pets. Ones from a lifetime, school friends etc. So if someone does not have a family they could pick a lot of different names to use. Oh, states that you have visited, countries , books of the Bible that are extra special to them, I could go on and on. I think you are one lovely lady, I wish I knew you, you are my sister.

Just finished my family name quilt! I only had 12 names to put on it which included three dog names but it turned out really pretty--if you don't look too closely. I watched your tutorial over and over while I was making it but still had trouble matching the seams. And the binding, oh the binding! I did put it on the back and turned to the front for final stitching but putting the ends together looks like a mess but at least it's on. I took a picture of it and would love for you to see what you inspired me to try.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful quilt. I bought two panels to make a memory quilt for my son and DIL, including the city names and states of where they were engaged and where married. Love your idea of adding special words like love, family... I had to search high and low for modern fabric that matched their decor in shades of grey, black, tan and carmel. (I recall you made a quilt in shades of grey for your minimalist decor son.) I think it might make a great wall hanging for their appt.

Hi Jean, This turned out so beautiful! Thank you for sharing because I have felt in a slump and you have re-awakened my creativity! This is such a fun project.
Making mistakes is part of the process when you are creating and designing a new project, as you have to figure stuff out as you go. But I guarantee you that most of us would have made the exact same mistakes you did, if we were figuring it all out on our own. But since you have shared your process with us and showed us the mistakes that come naturally in this process, we can all avoid them and learn from you. So thank you for inspiring and streamlining.
So, I was thinking, wouldn’t this be a fun project to do with putting Christian qualities in place of the names?
I love how prolific you are, even when you don’t feel well. You get an idea and you just get it done! I always seam to get waylaid by life stuff; then have a hard time getting back in the groove. You are a huge inspiration! Keep up the good work and I’m glad you are feeling better!
PS: I think Ian would like to make a quilt. He is bored from not working and I’ve noticed him taking more and more interest in your work. Why not get out one of your little machines and set him up with a little sewing station and a simple project? Then someday when he “retires” he will already have a hobby and YOU will appreciate that, lol. Maybe let him use some of that blue fabric, lol! 😂🤣😆

Thank you Christine, however I might disappoint you....I really don't like the 'quilt as you go' method. Lots of people do, but I feel that you have to put together your finished quilt blocks ANYWAY, so you might as well learn to do the whole quilt. Lots of tutorials are out there though!!
