Thank you for this fun journey! This challenge turned out way more interesting than I ever thought possible. Thanks for taking an interest in covering this game!
You're a legend dude I had to subscribe. This video was amazing but you found out and taught Plus how to do it. That's Insane. The highest respect to you my Man.
The fact that you were able to get ALL collectables without using your wings is legendary. Too bad the final boss was the hurdle that couldn't be overcome, but you did brilliantly to do it with just 1 double jump!
When Spyro only needed to use his wings once right at the very end, it was like the main character overcoming their limitations right at the final boss. Very climactic. I'm willing to overlook it as "character growth" if you are ;)
I cant believe there is this much you can do by breaking the game without even double jumping. All these videos I seen people make exceptions like allow the hornslam to break dark crystals. Props to you for sticking to the challenge
My head cannnon is that Hunter hates water so much that he has become so hydrophobic that water won't even surround him. Which allows him to just walk over the water.
The character smuggling glitch is amazing! I've seen someone play as Hunter in Spyro's area before, but I didn't realise you could do it with other characters too!
This is by far the coolest challenge run I have ever seen, period, simply because it completely changes how you look at every single obstacle in the entire game. Since so many strategies involve bringing in other characters, it makes this challenge run feel a lot more like DK64 or SM64 DS, where you have a bunch of different characters, each with abilities exclusive to them. Only Spyro can interact with most gadgets, wall grind, and wield water and electricity. Hunter has easily the best mobility. Blink has the strongest ground pound. Sgt. Bird can fly and can’t die from enemy attacks. And by creatively swapping characters when you need them, there’s not a single collectible in the game you can’t obtain, and not a single room you can’t get to. Of course, the only problem is seeing the final cutscene of the game. Goddamnit, Red. You just couldn’t have let people have nice things, eh? Still, this was an awesome run to watch. Can’t wait to see what else you’ll have in store for us!
What a run. I knew the game was broken as all hell, but this truly surprised me. 99% without a single double jump or glide is just insane. Ebbe is a legend. He actually helped me out when my game soft locked me out of one Light Gem some time ago. I didn't want to leave my file incomplete and I didn't have backup saves, but lo-and-behold, Ebbe just HAPPENED to stumble into my Twitch chat around that time. With his help, I learned the wall grind and with hours of trial and error managed to glitch my way to the gem.
I must admit that the game still looks so beautiful today as it was at release. No wonder it is one of my favorite childhood games. Well that and the difficulty i had with some of the Minigames.
Given that the previous games only banned the act of gliding/flying itself (and that your reasoning for banning the whirlwinds was on Spyro gliding for a single mandatory frame after using them), I think it's fair to consider the double jump separate, and by extension a (technically) completed challenge!
The character smuggling glitch seems like how child me would have imagined being able to play through the main levels with Hunter and Blink. Mainly that Blink would be so lame-o shame-o that he'd drown in ankle-deep water, and Hunter would be so cool and doesn't afraid of anything so much that he'd simply run across the water really quickly and effortlessly. I thought I was just being cynical/optimistic, I didn't think those ideas were enforced and enshrined by code. Amazingly niche, yet relevant information, and neat guide.
This challenge run turned the game into Donkey Kong 64. Backtracking 50 times to switch characters for a simplistic task the others for seemingly no reason can't do.
Man, this felt particularly like a full journey. Maybe it was all the back and forth to switch characters, or being able to get 100%, but this really gave the vibe of a full game on it's own that the other Spyro challenges really weren't. Great stuff like always!
I'm just saying, if we're banning double jumps because they use Spyro's wings even though it isn't "flying or gliding"... Spyro technically uses his wings to generate the lift for his standard jumps too ;) You can see him do a big wing flap in the animation every time he jumps.
this really felt like dk64, switching between characters, unlocking pathways for other characters, backtracking. and every character got their time in the sun. really cool run
it's crazy that this challenge basically turns the game into a giant team-based adventure where every character has an immense presence throughout the game. I love it
Honestly incredible work. I didnt expect this challenge to be possible, but here you are! Sucks that one double jump was required at the end, but one in the entire game is still just incredible. Cant wait to see what else you cook up!
94 minutes of NGPlus goodness on a rainy wednesday. Great video. Truly, you really have amazing patience and dedication to these challenges. Wish I had that when I play normally.
This is probably my favorite of the glideless challenges because after the setup to get to the third realm it feels like you're in some sort of RPG where all the characters are working together to complete the sections they're best at instead of the alternate characters just being their for small minigames. It feels like if Spyro couldn't double jump but instead you could swap characters on-demand the game would have still been a complete package in a way.
Oh heck, I enjoyed this video.Tthis was my comfort game through my teens. Played it with my little bro on ps2, and then completed it many many times over in the years since. I did the opposiite to many and went backwards from this to the older spyro games, and got very confused when my double jump disappeared and gems were compulsary!! I remember glitching the underwater sections So I could walk on the seabed, and accidently discovering the swin in air glitch (before I knew what speedrunning was) and having a lot of fun with it casually. I also remember forgetting once that wing shield was a thing and completing a play through without it accidentally. its possible to jump around most of the boomerangs and reds ice attacks with precision flying. Oddly, my favourite minigames were the mole ones, and I got so good I pushed my time down to below five minutes for most of them.
That was amazing! I love AHT and seeing this super creative way of playing it was so fun. I only ever got the swim in air glitch in Dragonfly Falls! Had no idea you could do it everywhere just like the previous games!
To summarize what I've learned: If Spyro didn't have his wings, he could still win by swimming through the air and killing himself a lot, as well as pressuring his friends to kill themselves in places they really shouldn't be able to. XD Amazing work on this as always. I can literally HEAR all the work you put into it in some of those exasperated quips.
This was so cool! I loved this game as a kid, after having played the trilogy and, luckily, having skipped the fourth game. The side characters can do so much that it makes me want to believe that at some point the devs wanted you to use them all over the game. Shotouts to conveniently placed out of bounds platform for character smuggling
fourth game was enter the dragonfly yea? I get why people diss it but man, at the time as a kid, it was great. I couldn't tell you if I preferred ETD or AHT, both were prolly in my top five games haha so many goofy glitches like airswimming or lagjumping to sequence break had me replaying it for years, and the level aesthetics were top notch for the time. Barnyard, Island, the Mountain, they were all neat as heck at the time. edit: I only mention it bc I loosely recommend giving it a try if you haven't. wasn't the best Spyro released, but it was still a good lot of fun. parroting a distaste for it when you haven't tried it yourself is weird.
So apparently the answer is that yes, that Spyro can go through the whole game without gliding...with a lot of helps from his friends, smashing their way into levels they weren't supposed to ever see! Great work as always man, always fun to see and I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next.
It's actually pretty incredible the devs for this game somehow managed to recreate the swim in air bug in their game. Same for it being in Enter the Dragonfly.
Not really. Programming is supposed to resolve complex problems in the easiest, most straightforward ways possible. It makes a lot of sense that two teams of programmers, with time and technology constraints, thought it'd be the easiest to push Spyro into a "swim state" when he crosses surfaces of certain non-solid textures. It's a 2d thing, and to prevent the glitch from being available for abuse you'd have to change it into a 3d thing (constantly check Spyro's location and whether he's in a "swim state available" location). It takes work and has to have memory allocated, always.
me at the start: so you're just gonna do some funny jumps to get around stuff me, now 40 minutes in staring at disbelief at what has transpired so far also no way we're ignoring shrek appearing at 39:58
Incredible run. There's something very funny about the fact that one of the characters you can swap to can walk on lava no sweat, while the other instantly drowns if he makes contact with a puddle.
What a cool run :D The idea of playing around with character in areas you shouldn't makes this super interesting to watch me. Honestly, you've become one of my favorite content creators and I'm always happy to see that you've posted, even if I can't watch them right away.
Absolutely incredible run, I remember playing this game so much when I was a kid and even picked it back up a couple years ago. Watching this now makes me realize I never made it past the second realm despite how much I played it!
This game WAS really fun! I played the original Spyro the Dragon as a kid and whilst most of the ps2's instalments to the Spyro franchise were pretty awful - this one I remember enjoying quite a bit. Excited to see what you can to with the game with this challenges ruleset! edit: this was so broken, what an amazing watch. you’re a criminally underrated channel, the work you put into these challenges are something else !
This is so incredible. Like, I can't even imagine how much time you had to spend on this. It's very lengthy to do this 100% with wings, let alone without. Like, ALL the respect to you. Without savestates, I can imagine it would be even worse nightmare. Just a shame that, just like Spyro 2, it's not entirely possible. Always that damn final boss. Well, at least you didn't need to glide. I'm glad you did the other games too. Maybe you could re-visit Spyro 1 in the future with the rules? I remember that was glitchless, unlike these ones. Absolutely great. Love these videos here!
I adored every single one of those hard maneuvers, with Spyro and Hunter. Also, Character Smuggling was a huge mind blowing moment. So darn cool. And it makes me eternally happy that you despise Blink too. XD This was video was more than worth every bit of wait and hype. Keep up this wonderful work! Ah, and I made this comment mid-video, but I wanna add that I love how it really feels that all of the characters are truly working together to get every inch through this game. : D An epic for sure!
GG, I am expecting you to speedrun this game now. You have learnt all of the hardest skips and glitches that a world record should be easy enough. Also Ebbe is a King
I like to think these playthroughs happened after spryo got an injury where his wings became partly paralyzed, yet he keeps finding himself having to be the hero anyway so compensates by learning to break reality. And with the help of his freinds.
And than at the end of this game he makes a miraculous recovery to beat the final boss (and I'm thinking there's no other Spyro games he could possibly do this with, I've ruled out the ones I know Spyro Orange: First of all, some REQUIRED minigames require Spyro to fly, so you can't even get past the FIRST world, and 2nd, he'd never (gliding doesn't even technically exist in that one) The Legend Of Spyro Games: Probably not, espeshilly not Dawn Of The Dragon, since at the beginning of the 2nd level your forced into flight gameplay (he could have a chance with the DS versions of The Legend Of Spyro Games though) Reignited Trilogy: Listen, it's on the PS4, PC, and even the Switch, it's really hard to break games like that) Okay, now remind me why I posted this reply again
This is so awesome, really happy you've covered a Hero's Tail!! and I can't wait to watch this all the way through... The only reason why I'm not is because watching this reminded me that even though I adored this game, I never actually got through even the beginning of the Snow realm, because I had a crappy unofficial memory card that corrupted MULTIPLE playthroughs as soon as I entered the Snow realm. I'm going to try find a way of playing through the game, so I can enjoy your video spoiler-free 😄 EDIT: I got to the final boss so I've allowed myself to watch this all the way through now! Loved this adventure 😁
I find it amazing how Spyro 1 wanted to include swimming and didn't, and because of that key decision it's probably the least broken game in the series because you can't swim in air!
I love how each character has different interactions with water. It feels like those old playstation games where you select fast tank, heavy tank, balanced tank.
To be honest, even though Spyro 2 is probably objectively the best Spyro game, this was always my favorite Spyro game growing up. The art style is just gorgeous, and the level design is just super fun and inventive. Sure, Blink exists, but we can’t hold that against the game forever, can we? Plus, Sgt. Bird actually looks like a penguin in this one! Still kind of resent Reignited for how badly they failed him in that one. They completely redesigned Sheila, and then they religiously stuck to making sure Sgt. Bird looked like a weird duck?
Massive respects to you to pull off all these difficult glitches and despite limiting your movement that much still managing to complete the whole game (expect the last boss fight, welp)! This was so much fun to watch! I played this game quite some times, it's a great game and also quite hard even when you play it casually.
Hah so funny pacing! This week I was rewatching your videos, they just don't get boring and are still so interesting! And just today new spyro video dropped, so cool :DD
What an amazing video, and the end of an era of Spyro glideless videos…man I found your channel through your first one so it’s kinda sad it’s over for now. Amazing as always tho.
@@NGPlusVideos oooh I’m curious as to what Spyro games you’re gonna do next then, the gba ones? Legend of Spyro series? Skylanders? The curiosity is real lol
I like how this run turns Hunter from being kind of annoying and mostly useless in the past, into the most useful character ever. He's secretly been holding back it seems.
Spyro a hero's tail was my first spyro game and I still love it so much, thank you for covering it up.🥰🥰 The video was very fun to watch, you have a lot of patience omg!!! I hope you will play also other Spyro games from the reboot series. I was wondering if someday you will cover a Crash Bandicoot game up, I guess watching you play Crash twinsanity is goign to be a blast and it's perfect for this kind of challenge XD I'll keep my hopes up!
It's cool how the game still functions (relatively) consistently when you take characters out of their designated levels. Normally I'd expect it to be completely unplayable or just crash outright.
These videos are so great! Thank you for showcasing a game i never got far with. Something i'd find really satisfying in future videos is hearing how long the more difficult tricks took you in real time. Or a top 5 most difficult moments!
What an amazing and creative way to get through AHT! I can't believe how each roadblock in the game had to be solved with such a specific use of each character's abilities, only for the literal final obstacle in the game to be impossible without Spyro's wings. Come on 😂 This was way more entertaining than I expected. Great work from you and Ebbe!
This felt like a truly epic challenge run. It felt like the whole series was building up to this, and all the coincidences and contrivances that allowed one of these games to finally be beaten 100% (well, almost) were satisfying, along with the huge amount of variety of nonsense required.
As always, great job with the research and glitches! Your challenges really squeeze every trick out of these games You'd think swim-in-air would have been fixed by now... 🤔
this is one of my absolute favorite spyro games, so seeing you approach it from a different angle is super cool! also, i’ve never been able to see collectibles on the in-game maps, but i grew up with the ps2 version. is that a version difference i wonder 🧐
My guy, I've watched many of your completing games with a twist, and I must say, this can open up the door for many games being completed using specific criteria outside of speedrunning
A single, hard required double jump at 99.9999% of the game's completion rounds up to 100% to me. This was an amazing watch, and very entertaining. I I can't wait to see what challenge you do next!
Holy crap this is a complicated one! I also realised in watching your video that somehow I also believe that I never originally played this game, so made for an interesting playthrough to imagine how you would play it normally XD

Spyro Orange: First of all, some REQUIRED minigames require Spyro to fly, so you can't even get past the FIRST world, and 2nd, he'd never (gliding doesn't even technically exist in that one)
The Legend Of Spyro Games: Probably not, espeshilly not Dawn Of The Dragon, since at the beginning of the 2nd level your forced into flight gameplay (he could have a chance with the DS versions of The Legend Of Spyro Games though)
Reignited Trilogy: Listen, it's on the PS4, PC, and even the Switch, it's really hard to break games like that)
Okay, now remind me why I posted this reply again
This is so awesome, really happy you've covered a Hero's Tail!! and I can't wait to watch this all the way through...
The only reason why I'm not is because watching this reminded me that even though I adored this game, I never actually got through even the beginning of the Snow realm, because I had a crappy unofficial memory card that corrupted MULTIPLE playthroughs as soon as I entered the Snow realm.
I'm going to try find a way of playing through the game, so I can enjoy your video spoiler-free 😄
EDIT: I got to the final boss so I've allowed myself to watch this all the way through now! Loved this adventure 😁
19:03 this phrase always makes me cackle like an evil maniac
It's a good thing spyros wings didn't atrophy from lack of use before the final boss.
Easily my favorite episode, the character smuggling glitch is really interesting from game design prospective
Honestly, Spyro 2 is the 2nd best Spyro game and A Hero's Tail is my all time favorite
It is odd though why they changed Money Bags's ethnicity for just this game, I wonder what the reasoning behind it was
Massive respects to you to pull off all these difficult glitches and despite limiting your movement that much still managing to complete the whole game (expect the last boss fight, welp)! This was so much fun to watch!
I played this game quite some times, it's a great game and also quite hard even when you play it casually.
A great and interesting concept. Challenge videos are always fun to watch. Bit long, but still good. Hope you continue to grow.
Thanks a lot, I am hoping we're not done with Spyro just yet though.
@@NGPlusVideos oooh I’m curious as to what Spyro games you’re gonna do next then, the gba ones? Legend of Spyro series? Skylanders? The curiosity is real lol
I played this game a ton as a kid, huge flashbacks watching this. Really enjoyed the vid!
I like how this run turns Hunter from being kind of annoying and mostly useless in the past, into the most useful character ever. He's secretly been holding back it seems.
NGPlus just over here pulling a Sorcereress and clipping dragon wings every chance he gets. 😆
21:44: and the Only Downside is that you, Well, have to play as Blink more 😅
FINALLY A NEW NG+ VIDEO!!
WE'RE STARVING FOR CONTENT AND FOR YOUR AFFECTION 😭😭😭
Who would have thought Jesus would return as a cheetah 😂
😂
What an amazing and creative way to get through AHT! I can't believe how each roadblock in the game had to be solved with such a specific use of each character's abilities, only for the literal final obstacle in the game to be impossible without Spyro's wings. Come on 😂
This was way more entertaining than I expected.
The first and only game I rented from Blockbuster. I would later buy the game. A Hero's Tail was my brothers first Spyro game
Thank you for beating the Spyro I was never able to beat, especially in such an epic way.
As always, great job with the research and glitches! Your challenges really squeeze every trick out of these games
You'd think swim-in-air would have been fixed by now... 🤔
this is one of my absolute favorite spyro games, so seeing you approach it from a different angle is super cool! also, i’ve never been able to see collectibles on the in-game maps, but i grew up with the ps2 version. is that a version difference i wonder 🧐
Thanks. No the map icons are a texture mod.
@@NGPlusVideos OHH gotcha, it really took me by surprise and i couldn’t find anything about it online😭thought i was going crazy
My guy, I've watched many of your completing games with a twist, and I must say, this can open up the door for many games being completed using specific criteria outside of speedrunning
I love your videos! Can't wait for the Legend series! Please cover Toy Story 2 the game as well someday!
A single, hard required double jump at 99.9999% of the game's completion rounds up to 100% to me. This was an amazing watch, and very entertaining. I I can't wait to see what challenge you do next!
The second I heard "no double jumping" I was cracking up. There's no way...
who knew the game had so many exploitable glitches?
*no double-jumping as Spyro. When playing as Blink then it's different just because one uses wings, the other doesn't 🤷🏻♂️
My guy turned this game into Donkey Kong 64 with all this character-swapping
I love this series so much and your voice is so smooth and soothing, I always listen to it to calm down :3
so glad to see twinsanities cousin get its own video
1:04:19 that’s a clever subversion on the game’s oart
And to think back when this game was out I could not figure out what R3 meant. What a run.
"To answer that, we need to talk about parallel universes."
I love how Spyro has to exploi-ahem ~depend~ on his friends labor but only he can interact with capatlism.
The music gives me serious Cat in the Hat (The PS2 game) vibes. And I like that.
Keith Leary was a composer on both games :)
i love how playable this game is when you're a character you definitely shouldn't be. like the game just doesn't care
Woo yeah, new NGPlus video! Always a good time!
I wonder if the guy who designed the pink robots is a fan of Gundam, because those things look like fat evil pink gundams LOL
Can you beat Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters without Clank (or helipack)?
A good question, it might be worth a try one day 😁
one could argue he uses his wings to jump at all...
54:20 was insane lol. Great video! This game should have been the 4th console Spyro game. (Minus blink lol)
This is my personal favorite Spyro game, the music is SO good as well
I've been waiting so, so long for this video. 😮😊👍
P.S. I hope you continue with the Spyro series.
Holy crap this is a complicated one! I also realised in watching your video that somehow I also believe that I never originally played this game, so made for an interesting playthrough to imagine how you would play it normally XD
This was such an awesome video! Might even be my favourite from you so far! Cannot wait to see what you do this year, keep killing it!
More Spyro games existed than I ever realized
this was very good video,I had to rewatch it. My childhood self would've loved playing as hunter and byrd. Damn ,If only
Fun fact you only need to toggle one of the water wheels in order to get ottos light gem
This is true, but for the strat with Blink later on, the water needs to be at its highest level.
