    • @DKforever24
      @DKforever24 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Its no different than how most people feel good after taking a shower or walking beside fountains at a water park. DF just doesn't have a way to simulate dwarfs taking showers, so the next best thing is walking through mist.

    • @SkillZgetKillZ
      @SkillZgetKillZ ปีที่แล้ว +12

      technically, you can have them take a "bath" by making them walk through 3/7 water
      it will clear off any blood, lingering FB dust or spit, etc.
      The easiest way to do that is to make a pit/pond in a high traffic area of the fortress and partially fill it.
      the water gets very dirty quickly though, so you may need to make an automatic magma flush system to clean it, then refill it manually

    "With 4 days left to thaw, there were 4 children we saw, playing by the frozen ice.
    With 3 days left of frozen sea, there were 3 children that we did see, playing in the open room.
    With 2 days left before disaster strikes, there were 2 children that have yet to hike, playing while ignoring the adult's advice.
    With 1 day left before the ocean returns, there was 1 child playing without any concerns, playing within their ultimate tomb."

    Goading different monsters into eachother is something murderhobos sometimes attempt to do. It doesn't mean they like the monsters. They just like it when two groups of monsters are too busy with eachother.
    The weird permanent ice in the pumps is a bug I have never read about anywhere. The heck is up with that.

  • @johanneswerner1140
    @johanneswerner1140 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    The gears are supporting the windmill, until you disengage them. The solution is to have them mechanisms on a platform and the windmills attached to them. Then have another mechanism/gears between the windmills and the drive train of the pumps. And then connect the on/off lever to that connecting gear assembly.
    The freezing is a weird thing which has been around since the early mists of time, if I correctly remember that. It has to do with the missing updates of what is considered inside or outside...

    Kruggsmash is a gem. The way that he painstakingly plays through Dwarf Fortress to extract every little nugget of interest is unparalleled. I could feel his agony so much when he tried to get his mist gen working for probably the tenth time. I can totally understand wanting to move on to other things after that. The piece he did for the Ekur brought be so much joy and it was hilarious that for all that effort his military just rolled in, hamstrung it and dispatched it in such quick fashion. That bit is the kind of flavor I come here for and was so well done. I can't wait to see what else North Bridge or the next project has for us. Strike the Earth Kruggsmash!

    One of the upcoming plans in Dwarf Fortress is after the magic update a culture update if I remember right - where civilizations no longer are simply "the elf civilization has These Cultural Touchstones Every Time" and they'll all have varied identities. Goblins that aren't always incredibly murderous, Elves that are more reasonable about trees, that kind of thing. I'm hoping that part of that is that cavern civilizations become able to be reasoned with as well.

  • @alexf1353
    @alexf1353 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    @Kruggsmash, I think the problem with the freezing ice in the pump system was because the back section of the pump (the one closest to the center of the fort) still had an ice floor, so when the water hit it, it just froze. That might also have been what blocked the flow of water and broke the windmills.

    Krugg I have a proposition:
    What if you make a wide tunnel leading from the bottom of the freezing ocean into the cavern layer with the amphibian men?
    Maybe they will swim up into the ocean, giving your fortress natural defense from invaders.
    At least if they do go into the ocean it will freeze a large amount of them every winter.
    You would just have to walk off your staircases so they don't get flooded with ocean water.
    I personally think it would be a great way to liven up the series anyway.

    If there ever is a "Final Episode" I vote the dwarfs all charge into the caves and fight the frog people. One giant messy battle to end it all

    Always a pleasure. Everything from your artwork to your cadence to your mastery of the game system makes this series the one I look forward to moreso than any other media I'm currently consuming.
    Please watch out for burnout. I hope you're taking care of yourself.

    Too bad for the mist generator. But maybe it's not a failure, but a trial ! time to bring some magma from the depth of the earth to heat this ice ! a magma conduit running trought the oceanfloor... let's go for some "quick" and "easy" dwarven ingenering ^^
    Thanks for your works !

    Oh my GOD those kids in the guildmaster's quarters must have been stressful. How do kids ALWAYS manage to play in the exact wrong spots?
    Edit: Maybe if you want to deal with those frogs a little bit of liquid !!FUN!! would be helpful. ;)

    That mist generator has been such a nightmare 😂
    I remember a long time ago Das made one and had a headache of a time designing it. It was in an underground fort, though, so there wasn't much in the way of pumping needed. I think he just made an insanely long winding tunnel. By the time the water reached the faucet (just a hole leading to the meeting hall that was over a single grate), it was barely level 1. Like, for three or four squares, it was just empty with a single 1 tile every once in a while leading to it. Somehow it was consistently a shower/water source. No clue how. And of course, even with just a single tile covered by a grate, one of the dwarves managed to fall in and drown. It really is impressive how good dwarves are at finding ways to off themselves in this game 😂😂
