I had something similar in one of my lands. There was a demon lord who had spent the first 30ish years basically Sauroning about with a goblin army until one day he chanced upon a dwarf fortress that was holding a crossbow throwing(lol) tournament. He got into it, and returned the next year, but then in a twist he abandoned his goblin hoard and basically moved into the fort , spent the next 20 years basically as a drunkard in the taven participating in the yearly sporting carnival until one day he (presumably while blind drunk) went up to the surface and picked a fight with a giant eagle and got torn limb from limb. What a fantastic episode! I love the way you pull stuff out of legends mode like this! That story of the Demon attending festivals where there are wrestling matches was brilliant. Also, you have to suppose an artifact sword called "ballkisses" will have a bonus chance to land "gelding strikes"...
I totally agree. It always feels like legends pages are incomplete - and they are! You have to check multiple different pages to piece together histories - like a puzzle - and it really shouldn't be that way. All of the information about one thing should be included on that thing's page.
Eh, not too far from how real-world history often works out. You read an account by one person saying this one historical figure was a certain type of person, then you find another that gives a completely different impression or reveals some new facts that reframe much of what they did.
i imagine Akam manifested Ranarethi as a result of a bet or game of chance which occurred in the spirit realm. I imagine goblin clerics argue about which diety won the bet as well. Elf civilizations can be huge. Elfs themselves don't die off, they just keep populating until their corners are crammed full of elfs. Elf cannibalism happens during their wars. Elfs wouldn't keep a goblin or human as cattle to eat them, or stage hunts for food. Their cannibalism is incidental, after a fight over something else.
The Lizard Demonlord .... seeing him forming a friendship with a Human over the Festival and Wrestling events showed me that even the most evil beeing of Dwarf Fortress do's have a heart and CAN find friends ... this is far more 'Human' then one might think.

Lately I haven't had the ability to keep up with many series on youtube or elsewhere, so this type of episode is actually really great for me. Legends mode is also my favorite part of Dwarf Fortress for sure. My time trying to parse through it always greatly influences the decisions I make in-game. So it's a great pleasure to watch your summary of your own findings within that labyrinth of information together with the wonderful illustrations that you and Mrs. K include. It's also greatly appreciated how you put up the names of each noun kind of like a caption on top each time you start talking about it-- makes the whole thing that much more cohesive.
I love it! I think its a good idea to do one of these types of videos every couple of small fortresses, or after one big run of a fortress, to see all that's happened since it rose. Updating it that often too would make it so you didn't have to make the video so long if you don't want to take away from other fortress projects for too long
Always glad to see a Lore episode for Dwarf Fortress! And you Krugg, being such a wonderful storyteller and inspiring artist, truly allows us viewers to fully appreciate the wealth that this game is put before us. I was a bit disappointed not to hear more about the human cultures in this world (the masks they wear are fascinating!), or the other elven societies. Elves in this game are so confusing. just wanna say the cavern crawler design is absolutely amazing -- the fake eye spots with the skin flaps sooo cool. Love the video, thanks for all your hard work x
That demon lord reminded me of the one in the very first world I generated in DF. She was a female goat demon who founded her fortress, killed I believe the other demon lord in the world, and then did absolutely nothing in the world's history after that but enter wrestling competitions and befriend fellow wrestlers. Soooo many wrestling competitions. She almost always won. She always befriended the ones that beat her. It made me very sad when I found out they couldn't really be characters or anything other then boss monsters to destroy or dominate, I was so revved up to hunt her down in adventure mode and be her pal.
I really enjoyed this episode. The different angle Legends Mode offers is really interesting, taking the typical zany logic and names of DF and making it sort of... idk, "storybook"? It's cool to have context (as silly as the context itself can be) for the greater world you've presented. Also always great to see the art cooked up for these, so much love and character put into the illustrations! (And this take on elves is really cool too!)
Really interesting to learn about the larger world and where Northbridge fits in. It'll give great context for future forts here. Your art is what really made the video great. This video wasn't as cozy as the journey of building a fort but I still enjoyed it and feel it's a fantastic setup for whatever follows. Thank you for the story!
Whew! Just watched this till the end. What a way to make a world special. You're an amazing story teller as always. Really like the legends episodes. Can't wait for the continuation of this world.

A library? I wonder how many 1 page stories with gold plated covers are in there
… Dwarven literature taking the importance of presentation literally. >)X^D
This game is such a wonderful storytelling engine, and I'm always fascinating by the different cultures and monsters of the world, and how they correlate and coelesce into a story.
But i must commend you on the vast amount of work that you have done. We viewers truly appreciate everything that you put before us
May Idrath smile upon you
not that i didnt expect this to be interesting, but it was way MORE interesting than i had thought!
thank you for digging up these awesome stories and bringing them to life with your art & narration
Your Legends mode episodes are among my favorite.
Algoment of engagement.
just wanna say the cavern crawler design is absolutely amazing -- the fake eye spots with the skin flaps sooo cool.
I happen to love these episodes, here's hoping there are more
Really interesting to learn about the larger world and where Northbridge fits in. It'll give great context for future forts here. Your art is what really made the video great. This video wasn't as cozy as the journey of building a fort but I still enjoyed it and feel it's a fantastic setup for whatever follows. Thank you for the story!
Really love such worldbuilding episodes. It really shows the best parts of the Dwarf Fortress. Also how Kruggsmash interprets it all is amazing.
Whew! Just watched this till the end. What a way to make a world special. You're an amazing story teller as always. Really like the legends episodes. Can't wait for the continuation of this world.
I love videos like these, just telling some of the strange and fascinating events of a world we've only seen through one lens so far.
I love this, it's like exploring but with words instead of legs. I do quite enjoy myself a bit of exploring.
