I thought I would share this, I see people changing batteries all the time when they are just low on water. After 2 years my 2022 Himmy battery started giving me problems starting and the trickle charger stopped charging. So I pulled the battery partially out of the holder, pealed back the long sticker about 1 centimeter, so I could see the long service strip, I then pried it out with a knife and saw that all the cells were low on water. I then filled them with naturally distilled (rain) water using an injector with needle and then closed it up. Put the battery back on the motorcycle trickle charger and six hours later it indicated that it was fully charged. throwing out a battery just because it is low on water is like buying a new motorcycle every time it runs out of gas. Of course the sticker over the service strip helps hide the fact that you need to service them and gives the impression that it is no maintenance. Simply a great strategy to sell more batteries.
I done that too. I have a cheap batter tester, before adding distilled water batter test life was low, after tester said good battery. So it definitely works in some cases.
Cheers Martin, enjoy your holiday hope you've no travel problems with covid restrictions changing every other day. So safe home and enjoy looking forward to the vlogs .Steve
Most online deliveries of batteries won't arrive until after Christmas next week. So I had to settle for what I could get in a hurry as I'm riding to Argyll for Christmas.
Informative and to the point , your usual standed Martin good job 👍my experience of bike batteries has been they are always in tight spaces , it comes with the territory there's generally little room but a " wee shuggly" is all that's needed . Enjoy your trip to Bulgaria and a very merry Christmas 🎅
Another useful and informative video 👍 Removing the battery for the first time can seem "challenging" though with practice it does become easier. If you don't have any dielectric grease to hand you can use petroleum jelly (Vaseline) instead to prevent corrosion of the battery terminals.
Also my R-E starter motor said 0.7Kw 12Volt. So that's 700 watt. 700/12 = 58 amps. Does that sound correct? Has anyone put a DC amp clamp on there starter motor cable to measure starting Amps?
My battery only lasted 7 months. RE warranty is for only 6 months. Motobatt saved the day. I ordered the wrong one from them but they exchanged with the correct one the next day. I just made the Dover ferry with minutes to spare
Hi Peter. Depends but ordinarily yes because it gets used every day. Next week I'm out of the country the bike will be in the garage on the trickle though. The only thing with keeping them outside this time of year is rust. Needs acf or some kind of protective coat. Even still every little knock will start to rust.
Very helpful. Did you consider a lithium battery? What is your opinion of using a Lithium battery on the Himalayan? Have a great time in Bulgaria. Merry Christmas from Canada.
Yes Marshall I looked at various lithium batteries. In the end I got what I could find locally at this time of year. If I had more time I would chosen a different battery no doubt 👍
@@WeeJaunt I have the 2022 Euro 5 model. I have done about 4000 Ks on it. It looks like they have improved the wiring around the battery. Comparing your to mine.

Does anyone know the CCA of the Battery?

Mottobatt is one of the ones I was looking at online. There is a lot choice but they seem to be up there with the most popular 👍
Hi Mate nice video as always quick question does your bike stay outside ?

@@PubRunner yes I'm sure they have mate. The side panels even seem to be a more snug fit to the frame so I recon they really have tidied it up.
