Here’s the list. Which one do you want to work on next?
    1. When you set your alarm before bed, put it on the other side of the bedroom.
    2. Add one personal item to your work to-do list each day.
    3. Keep a “Praise” folder in your email inbox.
    4. Carry a water bottle with you everywhere you go.
    5. Don’t go to sleep angry at the people you care about.
    6. Invest in quality, non-processed, organic food.
    7. Limit the junk food you bring into your house.
    8. Leave your phone on silent and upside down at all times.
    9. Write out a physical to-do list before you go to bed.
    10. Take at least ten minutes each day to be still.

    Chapters:
0:40 - put alarm on opposite side of bedroom, so don't endlessly snooze
1:12 - add 1 personal item to your work TODO list, to help work/life balance
2:08 - save complementary emails for future encouragement, and to prove good performance to bosses
3:23 - carry water bottle with you everywhere, to remind you to stay hydrated and curb cravings for snacks
4:19 - never go to bed angry at your partner, so issues don't linger and grow
5:17 - buy high quality, minimally processed organic food, to improve quality of life (see Fed Up, Food Inc)
6:15 - don't bring junk food into your house, or limit it, to avoid constant temptation. only buy moderate amounts when truly desired
7:19 - leave phone on silent and upside down all the times, so can focus and be productive
8:08 - write physical TODO list each night before bed, place next to phone. helps stay motivated and have structure for next day. start day with intention
9:00 - take at least 10 minutes every day to be (mentally) still. meditate, go for walk, listen to music, be quiet, doing nothing.

Instant groggy feeling is gone and it is so much easier, to not just get back into bed.

This might sound completely unrealistic, but something that has made a huge change in my life has been not using an alarm. I try to give my body the full rest it needs every night and it shows in my motivation and productivity the next day. This is probably more geared towards contractors or entrepreneurs, but holy cow it works.

I appreciate the genuine recommendation for quality food. Investing in drinking clean, mineral water and eating organic pasture raised/grass fed/wildcaught foods has made a real difference in my health. It’s twice as expensive, but I know the animals were raised humanely on a farm eating quality foods and frolicking in the sunshine AND it tastes so much better and I feel so much better. My thyroid is very sensitive to halogens in the water supply, and I was able to heal hypothyroidism with quality water and seafood/fish after being a vegetarian for 10 years. When you can afford the quality option, slowly start integrating those options into your budget and diet wherever possible. An investment in local farmers and your health is nearly priceless.

    On the water thing:
Don't know where this came from, but you _do not_ need 8 cups of water a day, individual needs vary widely.
Drinking too much water can strip micronutrients and electrolytes from your system and leave you worse off.
Drink when you're *_thirsty_* (by all means have water readily available when you are, which is Matt's point), and be sure to have plenty of sodium, potassium, chloride, and bicarbonate as these will help you from becoming dehydrated.

Just drink one liter to 1,5l per day depending on your job. Some manual workers definitely need more. The rest of the needed water you will literally eat it and get it from food

When it comes to "Don’t go to sleep angry at the people you care about", I think it depends. If you get frustrated or upset with your partner late at night, sometimes it could be better to get some rest and re-evaluate your feelings in the morning. Bringing it up when both of you are tired is much more likely to lead to an argument. If you give yourself some time to rest and calm down, it's often easier to have a calm and productive talk about it.

Ice cream = Anabolic ice cream, which is protein powder or Greek yogurt, fruit, natural peanut butter or powdered peanut butter, artificial sweetener and a crap load of ice. Chips = Baked potato wedges, Soda = diet soda and the best part is that you can eat them every day.

Matt, one more thing about going to bed angry...I don't believe everyone can benefit from staying up to work things out. In fact, there's a large body of research that says many conflicts happen as a result of fatigue when we don't have our the mental clarity. Many psychologists recommend a more custom-made approach for couples who decide on a case basis and are free to sleep on it or stay up late until they hug it out. Hope that helps! P.s. Somehow I’ve recently actually did the similar thing to the “praise” category you mentioned in the video Matt. Instead of emails, I screenshots and save chats that my customers positive feedbacks and what they are happy about. I will then save those into a folder 📁 and it serves as a anti-self doubt folder and also testimonials folder.
Thanks for the great video as always 🙌

The Praise Folder is brilliant- make sure to also keep a “brag book” of work you’ve done. Presentations, writings, pitches etc. Some people don’t want to just see praise, they want to see previous work product too. NOTE: Be very mindful of not sharing confidential data or violating NDAs. When in doubt, share work privately (over screen share) instead of emailing it. Always block out client names and obscure numbers.

Steer a ship 1 degree in a different direction, doesn't look big to start but over time you end up a in totally different place, it really is those constant daily habits that make the difference. Great video as always

You have added so much value. I will support you and your program, no matter what. Thank you for all the work you do to help us all be “better” people.
Also, CONGRATULATIONS on LESS IS NOW. Such a huge fan of The Minimalists as well. Sharing with anyone that will listen, even if they don’t. I’ve been following a minimalist “lifestyle” for the last 4 years, with imperfections...
Your videos continue to inspire and remind me of the life I truly desire.
Wishing you and your wife, the very best.

Haha, that looked so wrong to me too! I was taught (very) young to pour a Belgian beer for my Dutch dad who’d experienced the hunger winter (1944). And it wasn’t ever even an option to play with/ruin food (or stuff in general)!
