    Hey man, props for using your brain. I know that seems kinda sarcastic but I really mean it. It's inspiring to see people figuring out their own solutions and even more so to have a video as a guide. I get bummed out every once in a while when I can't solve my problems and little clips like these always seem to jumpstart my own ingenuity. I really appreciate you taking time to make this video. Thanks

      I REALLY appreciate your comment! This is really what I hope for when making these videos. It's always good to see other solutions it gets me going too!

    Great video. My 2006 Lancer seems to have a nice metal plate covering up mine (maybe to protect it) so I've got some more work in store for me.

      Good luck! Put a rag under the seat to catch any drips and spray it with wd40 or something maybe that will loosen it up and dislodge it.

    Thank you!!! I had the same issue, and thanks to your video I was able to figure out what was happening and solve the issue. You were right, on my case 2 of the gears teeth were broken and they were engaged on the opposite gear, therefore blocking the gears perfect fit. One tip, is that instead of a paper clip, I've used a screwdriver with magnetic tip, so after trying a couple minutes the broken teeth stick to the magnetic tip and you are able to pull them out to clean the system. Thanks again!

      That's awesome!!! so glad you got it fixed and thanks, that's a great tip with the magnetic screwdriver (or anything) to get the broken tooth out!

    My 1999 Ford explorer sport passenger seat only stays reclined... it won't lock into the upright position. I ordered a new recline lever and it was still the same problem. Anybody have any ideas?

      Man, I wish I knew! So it will go down but not back up? Or it won't stay up? Maybe there's a spring that's broken

    Had a seat lever break off, which really sucks because like a bad gear you'd need to buy a whole new seat rack as its pretty much a package deal. WD is a helpful maintenance procedure as the seat rack recliner can get quite rusty and dusty. There's usually a bolt in the cover of the mechanism at the center of the reclining mechanism. The cover is quite flexible which can be taken off with a Philips head. This would have helped to dissect the problem more effectively.

    • @ItsBrianHi
      @ItsBrianHi  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +slvrserfr Were you able to re attach the seat lever? That would suck to have no lever lol. Yeah, lubrication can help a lot of hassle

    I have a 2002 Honda Accord and this worked perfectly, I had a driver's front seat that I reclined and when I pulled up the handle to get the seat back to the upright position, the seat would not lock in place, when I checked the mechanism there was a broken tooth and part of the tooth was bent up toward the other tooth preventing the cam lock to engage all the teeth, I used a small pick tool to clear the tooth piece and It locked right in place. Thanks so much for the info.

    is it the same set up for a 2004 renault clio?

    • @ItsBrianHi
      @ItsBrianHi  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's possible they are similar. I was looking online to see the seats and they look similar but I didn't have a clear picture of the side where the mechanism is. From my experience with cars all manufacturers have different seats but some might use the same tech so the only way to know is to find a Clio and see.

  • @ashleybrewer1992
    @ashleybrewer1992 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just bought a car too and it was horribly gross. I was moving the seat back to get a good cleaning but now the passenger seat is busted. It won't even lock now. It just flops back 100% recliners. And it's IN the chair, not covered with plastic like yours.

    • @ItsBrianHi
      @ItsBrianHi  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ashley Brewer :( Can you take the plastic part off? you might have to take it to a trusted mechanic or body shop and have them look at it. Hopefully nothing is permanently broken or else you would have to purchase a new mechanism or possibly seat. Any good shop should have no problem showing you the broken part before charging you. Just ask them.

    I got an 01 dodge intrepid and my driver seat fell back. It makes the same noise as yours and I can move it freely. I dont have to press the button. I can pull it all the way up and it will stay but when i put any pressure on it, it falls again.

    • @ItsBrianHi
      @ItsBrianHi  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shak Bishop Maybe the spring that makes it snap back into place has come off or loose. It has to have something that makes the seat go back to upright. See if there is anything underneath that looks out of place or has fallen off. Let me know what you find. Might have to get under there and put it back on or take the seat out to get a closer look...

    Thank you very much! I solved it just like you explained. A broken tooth stuck in the gear. I took it out using a small screw driver scratching around, without even seeing clearly because it was quite difficult to see it at all but in the end it fell off the gear. I thought i would have to spend lots of money until i found your video. Thank you again.
