Thank you for the great video. The problem with my recliner is that when you recline it, the position does not lock. The footrest goes up and locks and all of that, but you can't recline and hold the position. Is my recliner doomed?
There’s typically not a locking mechanism for the back. It’s all about resistance. If there’s not enough weight to hold it back or there’s too much resistance, I would say there’s a spring issue. You might be able change out the spring for something with less resistance
It sounds like it may be bent and hitting itself when opening. I would try opening and closing it while someone views underneath to see if they can identify where it may be hitting each other
Do you have a situation where the recliner wont latch shut? Its always been difficult since we got it new and now its not locking shut at all. Its a recliner/rocker for a nursery. I can push the leg rest down fully, but it does not lock shut. Ive been staring at the undercarriage for an hour and lubricated everything.
Sometimes the fabric on the edges of the footrest can be causing problems. Other times, the latch/lever activator could be in the way of it closing properly. Those were the most common problems I used to encounter
Thanks for the video. Mine has a broken spring and the foot rest does not completely go down. The spring completely fell out and I cannot tell where it connects. Could you make a short video replacing it?
Is there a spring on the other side that you might be able to replicate? Also, would you mind sending us some pictures of your mechanism so we can help you out? You can send the pictures to our email at the323concept@yahoo.com
I have one that does not want to stay down the handle is working properly but it just doesn’t seem to want to stay down any ideas or videos addressing that issue? Thanks
I have seen a few things affect this. One, the lever activator is not latching correctly, possibly interfering with the mechanism closing. Second, the footrest might be hitting the armrests not allowing g proper closure. third, possible spring issue, not enough tension
Lots of great info, I just wish helpful videos like this didn’t have background music! Lots of adhd people out here only hear the music or the person talking. I don’t remember my teachers playing music in class while teaching me.
I have that exact mechanism and that red ring you see is connected to a piece and one of the metal levers it was holding together broke off of it , the hole is intact though how do I fix?
Is there a way to tighten the back reclining mechanism? I have a Cheers brand manual glider recliner loveseat that won't stay reclined. The foot rest will stay up but the back constantly comes back into the sitting position from reclining because its so loose. I love the recliner but that part is so annoying. Constantly fight it and pushing back against the back of the chair to stay in the reclining position.
@@the323vlog4 it doesn't have springs for the back of the chair, just the footrest so I'm not sure if a whole different mechanism will fix it. I wish they had springs in the rear of the chair for the back rest. Any ideas? I love the chair but this is irritating. I have to climb clear up on the back of the chair once I get it reclined to try to keep it in place but if I breath the chair goes back to the sitting position.

Hello, I am looking to repair my broken recliner mechanism. The side push bars are bent outwards. The part is RMT75A05. Do you know where I can get this part please?
I have an Ashely manual recliner, model 7528, that will not stay in the upright position. I will be setting in it and all of a sudden it goes into the reclining position. To get it back to the upright position I flip the recliner on it's side push the mechanism into the upright position. Last night it even went into the reclining position with no one setting in it. Do you have any idea how to fix it?
Sounds like a tension issue. Maybe the spring is too much tension not allowing It to lock in place correctly. I’d also check to make sure the footrest isn’t interfering with the arm frames
Hi I have a manual recliner single sofa and would like to know it I could convert it to a motorized recliner. If yes do you know how, and were I could get the kit.
Theoretically it’s possible but it’s a lot of work and requires some professional tools. It would require drilling out the drive tube to accept motor brackets. An angle iron usually goes around the drive tube for stability. The motor brackets and motor. One of these days I’ll do a video on one to show how extensive the process is.
@@the323vlog4 Thanks for your immediate reply. much appreciated. I am a mechanical technician and am ready to try and fit one. I have never worked on one before and do not know if the power system is a standard word wide or differs from one make to another.
@@johnbusuttil875 From what I have seen, there are many manufacturers, but the mounting system is pretty basic and universal. It usually attaches via two bolts on top and bottom and then there are two bolts on each side of the motor that all the motor mount brackets. The motor mount brackets Mount to the square drive tube that runs through the middle of the recliner. In order to mount those brackets, you will have to carefully mark and drill through the drive tube to mount your bolts through.

Love this video. One side of my couch recliner scrubs the floor and has caused damage to my hardwood floor. Could you tell me what cause this and how to fix this? Thank you.
I would imagine your recliner mechanism is bent and leaning causing it to hit the floor. I would try to flip it over and inspect your mechanism to see if there’s visual signs of leaning/bent areas . It will more than likely need a full mechanism replacement. I usually start by checking with the store where purchased
I was looking for info on the foot rest portion of the mechanism. While lowering the foot, something bent and is now catching so the seat don’t recline. Can this mechanism be replaced?
I usually start by contacting the store where it was purchased and seeing if they’re able to order parts. If no luck there, you might try recliner-handles.com
My recliner has a usb port in between the up and down buttons and before it stopped working it would light up blue. Now that my chair doesnt work the inverter thingy has the green light showing theres power but my switch does not light up blue. Do you think tbat could be related to the motor or the switch?
More than likely the switch. I would definitely start there! If it’s a sofa and you have a switch on the other side, you could always pull it off to test it.
Not that I’m aware of. The only thing I can think of is if there a broken rivet causing it to sink. Otherwise, I’ve seen mechanisms that unfortunately just can’t handle the weight of some feet.
Ok but do you have a video about how to fix the “ROCKING PART” I have a sofa that has the recliner/lever. The lever works. Pull lever and the foot rest pops out. Now my sofa doesn’t rock anymore. Could you please help? Thank you
I don’t have a video on that subject, but the only thing I can think of that would prevent it from rocking is part of the metal mechanism Broken is catching. I would definitely flip it on its front end and inspect the mechanism thoroughly and see if anything looks off.
Hi my recliner swivels but it is hitting something that stoped it from rocking. If I lean in the chair one way or the other it starts rocking again. It seems to be running on something just as I start to rock back. Can you suggest anything that could remedy this problem?
Hard to tell without looking at its 9/10 times it’s bent and hitting itself . I like to flip them over and rock them to see if I can identify the issue
My Ashley Recliner (4661425) appears to use AT LEAST 2 springs to keep the footrest closed.. but maybe 4... is that possible? One spring went flying off and is 4 5/8" long (11/16 coil diameter, 1 3/4" 20-turn coil body).. but there's another that's broken but looks like the standard 3 1/2" long spring. Despite the mechanical frame looking totally symetric, the 3.5" broken spring is only on the left side! And since the other broken spring that flew out looks different, not sure if the recliner uses 2 sets of each.
I have another problem that you might be able to help me with. One of the bars on the mechanism has completely snapped and is broken. I need to replace the bar but there are those small black screws with no slot on them. I suspect they are caps for the tips of the screws, but I can’t seem to get them off. Do you have any idea how to take those off and just work with them?
The ones I’m familiar with are usually 11 mm head heads of aim not mistaken. Feel free to send pictures of what kind you’ve got and I’ll try to help identify it with you. The323concept@yahoo.com

I have a recliner that the model Rtg 630139JCO. It is a manual recliner. It opens very quickly with a jerk and it is very difficult to get it to click back closed. It is a great recliner other than that. Please do you have suggestions. I am 70 and it is hard to kick my feet back hard enough to engage. Thanks
I have noticed the more modern recliners are a lot more difficult to close than the older ones. I would check and see if there are any ways tk adjust the tension on the springs. Some models have that option. I would also check and see if the padding on the footrest is too bulky and rubbing the arm frames. That can cause resistance.
I love this video. I am having problems with my handle barley moving. I do not see a cable at all. The handle barley moves the metal bar attachment before the mechanism catches on a flat bar that connects to the mechanism. I wish I could send you a picture.
Watched your video..very helpful...my foot release broke. I ordered another exactly like the original only it was metal which I think was better anyway. The broken one was plastic. Followed your video and got the new piece on, but the footrest will not release. The cable is the original one that was on the recliner. I put the recliner on its side to look at it, everything is moving like it should, but it looks like the release bar is not quite going as far as it needs to. My question is could it be the cable?? Any advice and things to try would be great. I'm a woman that is a widow also..thanks in advance.

Any suggestions where to get a replacement part for the lever? I inherited a recliner and looks like that lever is missing and someone just stuck the cable into the hole that used to hold the lever.
I have 2 recliners pull cable but when I open it and put my legs up the leg rest starts to close I am 6' tall. Ot does not stay up do I need a shorter spring
So what should I do if I have this exact recliner setup but as of today the recliner won't stay closed in the down position? It just hits that lever and then flips back up to the reclined position.
I would check and make sure that the lever is mounted correctly. I wouldalso check and make sure that the foot rest is not hitting the arms when trying to close. If those actions don’t work, I would check with the store where you purchased it from and see if they have the ability to order a new one
@@the323vlog4 Could it be the springs? It appears to me that the springs are what hold it down and keep it closed. Then when you pull the lever, it pushes it forward and the springs unspring and it flicks the footrest out.
@@CollinOtten I typically don’t see any issues that are related to the springs, unless it’s completely broken or missing. How long have you had a piece of furniture? Did you notice any springs broken? Are usually don’t see any option to adjust the tension on the springs either, except for maybe once or twice. There’s typically not a locking mechanism for the back. It’s all about resistance. If there’s not enough weight to hold it back or there’s too much resistance, I would say there’s a spring issue. You might be able change out the spring for something with less resistance
I have a love seat couch one side opens up but wont close any ideas on what the problem might be
Sounds like a faulty power switch. I’d start there
Thank you! Helped a bunch!
Glad it helped!

Thank you…my recliner handle pops loudly on rotation to normal position. Any suggestions?
It sounds like it may be bent and hitting itself when opening. I would try opening and closing it while someone views underneath to see if they can identify where it may be hitting each other
Where can I find that exact button mechanism replacement part? I don't see a link in the description box.

@the323vlog4 I've tried messing with the release latch to see if it's the issue, but it looks a bit different than the one in this video
@alyssahasselberg6532 it could potentially be a spring issue as well if one came off or it was originally installed in the wrong location
Thanks for the video. Mine has a broken spring and the foot rest does not completely go down. The spring completely fell out and I cannot tell where it connects. Could you make a short video replacing it?

Most of them don’t have any adjustments. You can tighten the KD brackets. You might look into replacing the springs with ones with a different tension
@@the323vlog4 it doesn't have springs for the back of the chair, just the footrest so I'm not sure if a whole different mechanism will fix it. I wish they had springs in the rear of the chair for the back rest. Any ideas? I love the chair but this is irritating. I have to climb clear up on the back of the chair once I get it reclined to try to keep it in place but if I breath the chair goes back to the sitting position.
great video! my problem is that one of the foot rests won't close down and it stays up all of the time. something is not latching in the mechanism. can you help? thanks in advance

Hello, I am looking to repair my broken recliner mechanism. The side push bars are bent outwards. The part is RMT75A05. Do you know where I can get this part please?
I always try to go through store of purchase first, if they’re unavailable, recliner-handles.com or ebay
@@the323vlog4 Is there anyway to adjust the tension?
I ended up putting a couple of nylon wire ties around the frame to hold it place.
Good video, im having problems with mines & there is power at the transformer & the switch but when i press the button for the recliner to lean back nothing happens, i do notice that when i press the button which is lighted up all the time the light flashes off when i push tne button which it never did that before or i never noticed it would go off when pressed, so im asking you is that a sign that the switch is bad & if thats normal then can you give me an ideal how & what to check - i did notice when the problem started it would work here & there but now it does not work at all - please if you can point me in the right direction that would be grate thanks

Is there a way to bring up a dropping footrest? Thanks.
Love the video..... clear, and to the point.
Thanks for watching! We appreciate the support
I like to flip them over and rock them to see if I can identify the issue
part of my frame is bent.... can individual parts of the frame be changed or the entire frame work needs to be changed?
Thanks! Sent you a message on how i would go about it
thank you... ill check
Yeah, honestly I’m not positive without taking a look
I have another problem that you might be able to help me with. One of the bars on the mechanism has completely snapped and is broken. I need to replace the bar but there are those small black screws with no slot on them. I suspect they are caps for the tips of the screws, but I can’t seem to get them off. Do you have any idea how to take those off and just work with them?

It is a great recliner other than that. Please do you have suggestions. I am 70 and it is hard to kick my feet back hard enough to engage. Thanks
I have noticed the more modern recliners are a lot more difficult to close than the older ones. I would check and see if there are any ways tk adjust the tension on the springs. Some models have that option. I would also check and see if the padding on the footrest is too bulky and rubbing the arm frames. That can cause resistance.

Hi. I can’t get my reclining sofa foot rest to latch or catch when putting down to close. Is there a way to adjust it to close? Thanks for reply/help.
I would flip it over and see if you can tell what is keeping it from closing. Sometimes there is an issue with the lever activator getting in the way.
