  • This video shows a quick fix for a Ford Ranger front seat recline mechanism. These comfortable and deeply sculpted are perfect for this truck. However, small snag when the recline mechanism fails. If this has happened to you, and it is definitely going to at one time or another. Here is a video that will show you exactly what you need to do to make the repair quickly and easily. This video shows the scenario, the process and the final fix. Applicable to all Ford Rangers of the 2004-2012 vintage, plus the Mazda B Series Pick-up truck which is essentially a rebranded Ford Ranger. Good luck and I hope this helps out someone at sometime. Just adding to the knowledge bank out there.

Had the same thing on my my 04 Ranger, thanks for sharing! I ended up using mechanics wire to secure the cable, it seems to be holding strong

Great job on your repair. I bought my Ranger brand new and apart from normal mechanicls wear and replacement , I've been surprised at what I've had to replace inside the cab...the seat, the sun visors, the temp controls, the blend door actuator, the rear view mirror, the windshield lol, plus alternator, blower resistor and blower motor ..crazy , but at the same time relative easy to get parts and replace. Thanks for watching and sending in a comment. J

Thanks for sharing this. The passenger seat back completely collapsed on my 88 Ranger Supercab. I had been using a 5 gallon bucket to support it. This video gives me an idea where to start looking to fix it.

Glad it helped. I hope this video helped you out. That's why I make them. When you look at the mechanism...it was going to fail by design, just a matter of time.

Did you ever replace the cables if so how difficult is the job about how long does it take and do you need to remove the seats?

Those stupid plastic pieces are also in the back door handles...seems they are ALL failing at once on my 2011 Ranger. The doors went 1st and now the seat recliner handle. Ford sure cheaped out on this. Does anyone know of maybe a pinchable lead something that might work instead of tearing the whole seat cable out? As far as my back doors I super glued the broken plastic bit to the truck..that is working...for now.

I always wondered but can you move the seat back to give you more leg room ?

Did you ever replace the cables if so how difficult was it and roughly about how long does it take per side? Also do the seats need to be removed?

Not surprised the glue didn’t work but I guess it was worth a try. The zip tie was a good idea, those things can bail a guy out of all sorts of problems. The part that sucks is you know the replacement part is the same junk. I’ve had this problem on the passenger seat of my 2011 Ranger, this video has prompted me to take a look. Thanks

I'm curious if I have to remove the seat and check the mechanism on the centre console side as my drivers door side seems fine.

That, I am not sure. I 'm glad mine was the driver side.

Wow, that's awesome to hear. I love my Ranger, but honestly, there are design issues (like this) that are doomed to fail from day one, it's just a matter of time.

Glad it helped. So many things on these vehicles are destined to fail by design and it's nice when you can find a "free" fix and brings it back into a functional and working state.
