    36:10 FUN FACT: That isn't a tornado, that's an upside-down Mountain from Mercadia! Mercadia is a plane where everything is supposed to be the opposite of normal Magic: Goblins are smart, problems are solved with merchandising rather than actual fighting, and people use blimps instead of boats. In order to show this, the art directors decided to make some pretty over-the-top art designs, such as upside-down mountains being plains.

    • @Sqwearl1

      I grew up playing with one copy of that plains and I thought it was a tornado too XD

    • @drpibisback7680
      @drpibisback7680 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      It's a great top-down design, in that Mercadian magic was also the opposite of fun if you ask people who were playing at the time.

    • @theunease5541
      @theunease5541 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      It feels so bizzare that so early on in Magic they decided to do a concept like "everything is opposite" when they barely had the concepts they would make opposite set in stone compared to the way they do now.
      I feel like if Mercadia came out now instead of back then the concepts of the game that would be subverted being more fleshed out would have worked much more in it's favor, and it could have been a massive hit, in the same way that time spiral played with color identity and a lot of stuff like that.
      Though, hindsight is 20/20. A lot of what has happened probably wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for the lessons learned from Mercadisn masques. The set was kinda important for learning what they did and didn't want to do with the game. Therefore becoming essential to create the magic we know and love today.
      Idk, weird, funny to think about.

    Edit: This card is even better than I thought while watching most of the gameplay! As long as you attack with one creature, you can untap all your convoked creatures and the side that the convoke knight cares about is 2 cmc (I believe that's how that works) because Plarrg, Dean of Chaos is the front facing creature

    Deck is good, but saying it's the "Hogaak of Pioneer" is the over estimation of the decade. Primary differences:
    1. Hogaak has delve, and access to dredge cards. This deck does not.
    2. Hogaak does not care about removal, you can remove it and it'll be back the very next turn. This deck folds to a board wipe.
    What made Hogaak good wasn't how fast Hogaak got out, it was that Hogaak was nearly impossible to deal with.

    This seems strong, possibly too strong, but it isn’t Hoggak level. Hoggak required a turn Turn 0 answer that is usually a sideboard card (Leyline of the Void) in order for the game to even feel playable. Also, nothing won against Hoggak’s best draw, whatever you were doing, if Hoggak had its most optimal start it was just better. We saw this lose when it has the dream draw. TLDR: it just isn’t on the same level of oppression Hoggak was on.
