The VW salesman wanted to wipe awy my concerns on the hard plastic with an optimistic "But hey, look at the new infotainment" ... We both then entered a VW Golf 7.5, and he had to admit how and where the Golf 7.5 excels and the 8 does not. I bought one of the last GTI's (actually, a 2020 model). The 8 is no match for the 7.5 in terms of quality
The Golf 8 does have airconditioning in the glovebox. There is a night mode for Navigation. You can turn on the heated seats any time by tapping the temperature slider with two fingers

Outside Well I think it looks pretty decent. I LOVE the back a lot more than the MK 7.5. The Front is OK. I slightly prefer the front of the MK 7.5 but it is not a huge difference. It is not gorgeous like the Leon but I think it looks fine. But every Golf has always been 'Just fine' or 'Meh' to me anyway. Mk1-6 = meh/boring, Mk 7-8 = fine/decent. The interior however..... I think it looks WAY better than Golf 7.5. The old interior with the classic vertical dash design..... well let's just say it was the main reason why I have not leased one. This new dash design looks great, interesting and actually new. Especially compared to when you got the 7.5 with the analogue dials. Two things that I don't like about the new interior: No more carpeted glove box. No cover for the cup holders in the front, they dropped the ball there.
Nice video. You did a great job. I've owned two GTIs and I really like this new Golf, although the touch controls for volume and climate are an utter shame.
Nice car but didnt like the multimedia user interface at all... too much information, buttons in a very different positions, so bright and such a mess of styles, text, graphics and icons on the screen. Hope you can select a minimalist style to avoid driving distraction
Nice review. Comments are the same as every one of the car reviews that come out for any car. No one likes the look of the car ... interior exterior, lights blah blah blah. Cars comes out and people will buy them anyway and grow into them then prefer them to the old ones then a new model will come out they’ll hate on it, but it and the cycle will continue...
Hab den Golf Variant 1,5 TGI mit DSG Schaltgetriebe in Delphin Grau und bin begeistert. Ich rate absolut von Schwarz ab. Die Farbe ist extrem staub- und schmutzanfällig. Wähl lieber die hellen Grautöne die schauen richtig Klasse aus, am Besten mit abgedunkelten Scheiben. Mit den neuen Updates ist der Wagen wirklich nahe zu ausgereift. Bin sehr zufrieden.😊

@@paulb8153I had to drive a Mini cooper for about 2 weeks a few months ago (long story). The engine was decent (BMW 118i engine) and the handling was fun. While that is fine for a weekend b-road drive, long motorway trips to work every day were terrible, this is why. SUPER uncomfortable, back pains, you bounce a lot, feel every bump, loud tires, wind noise, generally unrefined, Infotainment screen is too dim even on highest brightness (though the system is decent). A 90 km drive to work back then felt like I had driven 300 km instead. The interior was nice for a small car but not great. The mini is just worse unless you are looking for a fun weekend car. Then it won't disappoint.
16:02 modern car design made soft-touch rear door window sills unnecessary. In just about every modern car and crossover, from A to D segments, if not larger, are all designed where the rear window sill angles upward to be the same height as the top of the rear seats. Personally I hate it and prefer the lower window sills of cars of the early 2000's and older, but that seems to be a thing of the past unless you're looking at cars like the Mercedes E class or larger. Anyway, because of the high rear window line, it's next to impossible to comfortably rest your elbow/arm on the window sill, which means making it soft is not needed. The cost savings are negligible, so that's not the reason why car markers use hard plastic in this area. If you notice, the actual armrest lower down on the door panel is still soft in most vehicles.
Will Thompson love it, but dislike the chrome. Love the LED Matrixes headlights, and seats are betters satin finish rather than all cloth in Life package.
This is what I was afraid of. It looks more like a crossover than a hatchback. Even the seats look like they were borrowed from a Toyota. I love the interior and the taillights, but the rest doesn’t quite resonate well with me. Just screams mommy missle.
I haven't seen any of the Golf 8s with leather seats on youtube so far. Has VW abandoned the leather seat all together with Golf 8 for some environmental friendly reasons?
This car is sometimes compared to the Skoda Scala. Isnt this a wider car and better build? And as I see in your review, knee room is about the same as the scala?
I'd pick the Golf, since you need the AMG pack to make it look good, and then it is at least 40k here. Then you only get an A180 that has the same engines as in the Renault Megane. And even then you need to pay like 2 k extra for Adaptive Cruise, want more options like matrix LED? That would be another pack for 2k. And that is with a discounted business edition. Normal editions will cost more for less. The Golf gives more for less, and with a more frugal, refined engine (1.5 eTsi). I'd pick the A-Class before the BMW 1 series though......
CyAn don’t you think in that sense, a Kia Ceed would be a better buy? I mean the Mercedes has an appeal of its own, a brand value VW can’t match and quality levels much more than a golf, right?

After 5 years, after thinking for a long time, I bought a new auro and it was just the New Golf. MK 7.5 every day of the week. They've lost touch with 'the people' that drive Golfs. Surely they consult owners of previous generation golfs in order to create a new one. One thing I do like is the tailights (give them their due). However this car could seriously flop. Its competition will be laughing and actually I'd rather have the current Ford Focus. Decent kit and much better value for money.
Hi Will Murray, I totally agree with you, I too love the rear lights but thats about it. There choice of Alloy wheels across the range are shockingly ugly. I going to stick with my MK 7.5 GTD in isaac blue. Amazing fuel economy.

CyAn exactly man! Touch is king, who wants physical buttons that give feedback when you’re looking at the road while dialing up or down the a/c?
Couldn't even use the touch controls properly while stationary. Imagine trying to use those while driving.

また、高速道路では、自動運転システム(トラベルアシスト)が付き、ハンドに手を添えるだけで、ほぼ自動運転してくれますが、明細は日本に上陸してからになりますね。

GOLF8、社内インテリア、殆んどレバー類が無くなりタッチパネルに変更、シンプルになって、高級感が増しました、また、ナビを含めて大画面となりました。車内イルミネーション類も追加されましたね。ハンドルに有るＳＷ類については７．５と、同じ様に感じますが日本仕様は解りません、期待しますね。
