I love this kind of concept. There’s a server me and some lads are apart of, and in this server we use mechs and walkers inspired by you that we have built thanks to you roaming around attacking players and fully autonomous, because of this we get raids every few hours or so. We decided to build a spider mech from destiny as it was one of my favourite walker styles, we use this as our hunting mech, we go around finding pings of enemy mechs wait to get closer, eliminate target, go back to dropship and repeat till the servers clear for the day, we also use these on players bases aswell for a bit of fun and ofc they ignore it as they think we’re the small AI walkers. Love the builds, hope you’re doing well in deployment.
What an unexpected surprise! Watched the original a while back and fell in love with the sentinel-like design, wasn't expecting to see it walking around in space engineers
1:21 this might be one of the most important tips I've ever heard about building/replicating things in SE. I never even considered using a specific point in a built to set the scale. I'll be sure to keep that in mind in the future. Otherwise, amazing build as always! I can't wait to give it a try!
I guess I overlooked that aspect. It’s got to be a distinct part of the build and will be your limiting factor due to block sizes. Usually ends up being the cockpit
@@BlackArmor718 That's usually what I use as my starting point too. I wish the game allowed for some smaller/more complicated shapes, but that's the nature of a block-based building game I suppose.
I appreciate that you went through your process a bit in this one. I've always been too intimidated to build my own mechs, but maybe now I'll give it a shot.
@@BlackArmor718 Your attention to details and the way you are able to make it all come together on all your builds are simply incredible, another great job as always and I'm glad you showed some of the work that goes into making a decent walker.
9:10 It's a shame the "Share Inertia" option limited the mouse control over the Canopy I wonder if you could add an addition "turret" stage - the bottom of which is inertia-locked to legs, and the top can freely rotate? Very well done! It was interesting to see the "falling over a few times" to "buggy global inertia sharing" to "walk tuning"!
It's mechs like these that make me wish Space Engineers supported holograms with subgrids in vanilla, this is one of those vehicles that'd be perfect to mass produce and use as transport across an ice lake or something, maybe modify the body with a collector, cargo container, and droppers and use it as an item transport. Amazing builds as always, maybe I'll try to mess with mechs myself after seeing the process
I have spent maybe 200-300 hours making mechs and I've gotten 5 out of the 22 ive made to be able to walk consistently without exploding into dust. I'm on Xbox series x with no mods or scripts and I've watched all of your mech videos without those videos I dont think I'd ever have my backpacker mech or my Alien transformer. I am so thankful for these videos.
I love that idea, those legs are indeed quite interesting to look at and seeing them move is just something else. Also especially nice to see the building process, and that even the best still end up realizing after building that maybe something with such spindly legs and a massive block for a top section will need a bit more to stand upright. I will say, this is why I prefer six-legged designs for practicality, but regardless a wider stance is always going to be borderline necessary for something so top heavy in such a way. It's so... oddly jittery, when nearing completion. Looks almost strained, but still worked - the final result is great. I also absolutely love the detail that the back platform shifts to the side to allow easier access when it's in that crouched stance - effective convenience like that is so good to see, and it's subtle yet noticeable all the same.
Yes this is not the most efficient mech design in the slightest but it was very interesting to piece together. Also one of the more troublesome for making it learn to walk. Thanks for the comment as always Rag

One of these days, I need to get more chassis made. I am terribly inept at making legs, but confident I can get a body and depending on the chassis hips (such as a Battletech Inspired Locust chassis I have.)
