What I like about your reviews and videos is that I feel that you are an enthusiast too. Not just doing a rview but that you truly enjoy what you are doing and like the camera in your hands. God job. Keep it up. I am finishing the expert videos on the hx300 with my hx400.
Awesome review. This is my camera purchase. Been doing many researches recently and this looks to be the best for the money for the features and pic quality. Thank you for posting this.
Your review is the reason why I bought this camera. I can't wait until it shows up tomorrow. I'm checking UPS every hour to see where it's at lol. Thanks!
I kept checking and checking then posted on Facebook and 5 minutes later it showed up. Praying to the Facebook gods worked. It was funny though because I ordered a case for it and they shipped it in two separate boxes. When I opened the first box it was a griddle and drip pans lol. I was panicked because I was worried the camera wasn't in the other box. (Thank god it was because someone from Amazon would have been driving to my house to bring it to me). And, I love it. :)
Thanks for the great review, very well done! This is a great camera, I've had mine for about 8 months now. To go with it, a few extra batteries, a decent shoulder strap, and a hand grip. One of the best things I bought for it was a Zacuto Z-Finder, so I'd be able to see the viewfinder in daylight. I'd highly recommend one of these for anyone wanting to actually see their viewfinder in bright daylight. Much less expensive viewfinders are out there, and would probably work just as well, but I found a good used one on Amazon, and don't regret that purchase at all! The only problem I have with the camera is trying to stay focused on aircraft at air shows... pretty tricky. About 85% of those pictures turn out great, so I'm not complaining, but any suggestions to improve that would be appreciated.
I own a HX300 and really enjoy the features. What this video has revealed is that the HX 400 will excede the needs of 80% of a photographer. Thanks for showing just what is available with the HX series. Looking forward to the 400 when I have finally mastered the 300. That will take some time.
Fantastic video!! Love all the detail you showed us from the mechanical details to examples of photos and videos. Great job :) Making me even more excited for my Sony HX400v that's currently en route :)
Can you increase the zoom on this camera by simply adding a more powerful zoom lens and which one would you recommend. We like to shoot the humpbacks from our condo window and find that our jvc video cam gets to grainy.
I get this second hand camera..and im confused.. While i took pics of moon, there is some artifacts, also when i zoom something else.. Is there some kind of option, or something i can reduce this digital artifacts, or what else can i do? Im really confused :(
Thanks for the review. I currently have HX200V and been thinking to upgrade it. Would HX400V be a nice upgrade in terms of functionalities other than 20X additional zoom ?
Great Review..subscribed right away.. my question for you if you don't mind is that I purchased the DCS HX60 yesterday and I was wondering if the video shooting features on it (support 24P for example,) are exactly as the video features on the DCS HX400? Thanks.
Based on your review and detail pictures you provided, I bought the camera. Is not SLR but is a great camera. I love it. Please if you can do a review on SLR starting from $400 to $1000 Thank You
just picked up a nice and boxed s/h example for under $200. Considering what this camera can do that's some extreme value. Of course it's mid winter here and no one is thinking about taking pics or video... so buy now for summer :-)
dear sir. thnx for uploading a helpful video,i hve question that is this hx400v camera best suited for hd video recording with sound capturing video and image capturing. while zoom........if no which camera should buy....plz tell us....kind regards
Although you said that to take photos indoors we may want to check other cameras, taking a photo indoors with this one will not be that bad, right? I mean, it has a good quality indoors as well... It'd take an acceptable image indoors, so to say. Am I wrong?
Hey Michael... I've purchase this one (today 😆)... but i dont know a lot about it... can you do some experts serie for this one like you did for the hx300...
Hi Micheal I have Sony CyberShot DSC W310 SteadyShot camera & i want to upgrade it so is this DSC HX400V a good option? coz i love d way it looks & i feel according to your video its gonna b gr8 fun to take pictures & its affordable.. So what do u suggest? (I am not a professional, just a beginner in photography) Cheers Shishira
I have the OG HX100v and its great, I am thinking about upgrading to this though, has some handy features I really like, and I like that you can put filters on this one, the HX100v isn't threaded for filters. I am just a hobbyist photographer but I have gotten into Gigapixel images and it works great for that, use lots of zoom and take lots of pictures with good overlap and stitch them together. Works great for a point and shoot too for everyday use, I love overhearing people say "I wish I could get closer", well tough tiddies to them, but I can get a picture of the earwax in the popes ear from a mile off! Haha!
Hi Michale!!! I live in India & I have deceided to buy this Sony DSC HX400v camera after watching this video review. I am just going for a tour with my family at Singapore & want to buy a compact megazoom camera as I think this can be a great allround travel camera with this super zoom lense. So do you think I should go for Sony without any confusion?
Hey! I thank you for making this video, this is my first true camera and I would like to use it well! This video has already answered some questions I had, but do you know how can I take a picture of someone with the blackround blurred? Does it always have to be with the zoom? Thank you!
Can you put the lens on another camera , lets say a sony A600-6500 ? Or is that lens build in on that camera? If you can put it on a diffrent camera will it still maintain the quality of the zoom? Since the body for this video is specifically made for this lens , but the A600+ may not support that zoom? (Sorry for my bad english and also very new to the camera stuff ^^)
Nicely done, could you please tell me the name of the mic you are using in this video? and your hardware and software setup if there are any? thank you again
Hi.. It was a great review... would you recommend buying this camera sony hx400v or nikon d3300 or canon eos 100d. Let me know your comments. Thanks in advance. Rgds Suresh
this is a great review .. thanks for sharing but i'm really confused what to buy!! this sony camera or fujifilm sl1000 these 2 camera seems very close in every thing except in price ,, in where i live i can buy the sl1000 for about 240 bucks and the sony for 470 !! do you think sony deserve those extra $ ??
Fantastic review! Just got the camera and was wondering how to edit / crop pics on the unit itself. Can you actually apply special effects to your pics while they're in the camera?
on the rx10 series if you change the size from 20 megapixels to 10 megapixels it allows you to zoom in further and if you change it to 5 megapixels it allows you to zoom in even further does this model allow you to do the same?
Hi youe video helped me coz i just bought this camera but didnt know how to use, but you talked abut it but didnt tell me where all these features are 👀😩
For the creative mods inside the camera, as you mention: Do you first take the regular jpeg and then you work it in post editing using the set of options? That peak focus, does it also work on video? Have you compared this camera with the Canon Powershot SX60HS? I'm trying to decide. Thanks for your very educative video. Hope you have the time to answer my questions. Thanks!
Hi Michale!! Your video was very helpful. I am struck up between two models HX400 and nikon coolpix p600. plz can you suggest me which one is better for photography. Also i want to know that..... Is it possible to snap blurred background pic wih hx400?
manoj sindiri I haven't used the Nixon Coolpix P600, but I've been keeping my eye out for the SX60. I have the SX50 and really like it... I think the HX400 is a great value for the money. It may not have a large sensor, but you can achieve some beautiful photographs with it, without a doubt. You can use aperture mode to achieve a blurred background. Check out my hx300 expert series.
Hi. Thanks for the insight, really helpful. One more thing, would you mind asking you how did you shoot the video with yourself focused on screen while all the surrounding is blurred?..even objects closer to the camera! Thanks in advance.
Don't buy this camera if you want to work with it. For amateur use is great but if you want to do more complex things go for a mirrorless. And yeah I had this camera for a year and a half!
hi mike... How much the picture quality differs between hx400v and some entry level dslr like nikon 3200/3300. which one would you recommend? and can i take background blur/defocus pics with hx400v? i am planning to buy in next few days.
thankyou very much for this useful video, just one question; is there a socket to plug in an external mic (if not, how would you connect an external mic)
The HX400V does not have a 3.5mm mic jack; however the addition of the hot shoe mount provides the ability to use external mic...review coming soon for Sony's mic!
Hi Michael, how are you. Your sony Hx 400 video is great, very well explained and most importantly you love this camera. Thank you for making and sharing this video. I have few questions 1. Dose this camera shoot raw images. 2. How dose this camera fare against Panasonic lumix FZ 70.
John Thiophilus Glad you liked the video. The camera doesn't have RAW. I can't speak to how the camera fares against the Lumix because I haven't had access to that one.
Hi Michael !! Thanks for this lovely review, i have watched all of your videos on youtube, and i love all of them. The way you provide information, helps to learn a lot. When I saw this video, I just couldn't wait to buy this camera, and i just actually bought one. It is an excellent camera. Some may complaint that the sensor is too small, but it can produce such quality pictures that can confuse people whether those were shot with a dslr or what? You are doing a great job here, best wishes for future An expert series for hx 400v would be great if you can do so, although there is an expert series for hx 300, but it didn't had my favourite feature [peaking] which the 400v does.
he-man Many thanks for taking the time to provide this feedback. Much appreciated. Yes, the camera is a very capable camera and the price point is actually very good for a camera with this many options and a lens with this level of zoom. There are quite a few more features that I want to show people on the HX300, but you're right--there are quite a few new features on the HX400 that would make for a good series. I'll keep that in mind. Be sure to tell your friends about the channel - some future videos will be a digital camera buyer's reference video that I hope will help many folks that want something different from the camera on their phone but aren't quite sure where to begin... Cheers!
I will definitely suggest this channel to my friends.. could you plzz tell me if the jog dial on the hx400v also works as a button, because mine one doesn't. I am asking you this because I saw it on hx 300 on your video perhaps
Great for filming wild birds, if you're birder! Tested it out recently, vid on my channel. Use a tripod for that though, more stability. It doesn't give you the option of taking off the stabilizer as far as I could see...
hello can you please answer me the question if recording video - if the video stops if it reach the 2 gigabyte filesize, or it generates a new video file for further recording. kind regards
I prefer the Sony as the blacks are blacker and the whites are whiter and on the Canon, i find the image very soft and lack of detail at full zoom and steadyshot on sony is better and it also has a better Lens.
i thinking of buying this cam.... do you know if it has burst shot, and is burst shot able to be used in low light? if so please let me know, i loved my older DSC- H10 but it has become way outdated... thanks in advance.
Hi, I am holding a festival abroad, I get the feeling this camera will grab the shots I need to create a video, photos etc for marketing tool for my future events?? for me its this one or the EOS 100D Digital SLR Camera?? please advise me Thank you
I have seen all your videos and they are very helpful! I purchased a HX 400v for some small projects and now I want to add a shotgun mic! But the camera does not have a 3.5 only a HDMI micro and a USB micro. I found the adapters I need online but my question is "if I plug in a mic to the USB micro will it work?"... I couldn't find this info anywhere. Was going to call Sony tech support! Any ideas??
I bought a Sony shotgun mic works with the multi shoe mount and mic is awesome!! I didn't want to spend the high $ bought is well worth it. And no hissing noise when recording : Sony ECM-XYST1M Stereo Microphone
Is this camera better than the Nikon D3300? Is the aperture bigger than that camera? Is the fact that this can't take pictures in RAW format important? I Want a camera that takes good photos during day and night. Also, is this cameras lense interchangeable?
This is some high quality professional no-bullshit review from a guy who knows what he is talking about. Respect.
I find myself screaming at most videos "show me some damn pictures with the thing!" This was great, wonderful review, great examples thanks buddy
What I like about your reviews and videos is that I feel that you are an enthusiast too. Not just doing a rview but that you truly enjoy what you are doing and like the camera in your hands.
God job. Keep it up. I am finishing the expert videos on the hx300 with my hx400.
Thanks for the video, it took me a whole day to decide on a camera and your video just made a lot easier to actually buy one :) Greetings from Germany
Awesome review. This is my camera purchase. Been doing many researches recently and this looks to be the best for the money for the features and pic quality. Thank you for posting this.
What a fantastic review, thank you.
Cory Ter Smitte - Hi Cory - you're welcome. Thanks for the feedback.
*Hello from beautiful Bangor, Maine.*
Lovely review, thanks. We have used our new 400 for the first time today and are just in awe of it.
Your review is the reason why I bought this camera. I can't wait until it shows up tomorrow. I'm checking UPS every hour to see where it's at lol. Thanks!
BrokebutCreative I do the same thing (check package tracking) when a new camera is on it's way. I hope you're enjoying the camera.
I kept checking and checking then posted on Facebook and 5 minutes later it showed up. Praying to the Facebook gods worked. It was funny though because I ordered a case for it and they shipped it in two separate boxes. When I opened the first box it was a griddle and drip pans lol. Wow you are the best to convince me .... I just bought the camera ... No matter how old it is ... I know Sony is the best among many.
Whats all that stuff behind you?
Are you building a timemachine?
He makes music... It's music equipment
Thanks for the great review, very well done! This is a great camera, I've had mine for about 8 months now. To go with it, a few extra batteries, a decent shoulder strap, and a hand grip. Hi Ron, glad to help.
I wish you had shown the operation of the manual focus, cuz that's a very distinctive feature in bridge cameras at this price point!
Fantastic video!! Love all the detail you showed us from the mechanical details to examples of photos and videos. Great job :) Making me even more excited for my Sony HX400v that's currently en route :)
thanks - another great video - I have the HX300 and am looking forward to more of your future tutorials!
Hi Dana, no problem! Thanks for watching.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS CAMERA..!!
I really love the function button!...Julian
Oh my goodness, your voice, so nice.
hello friend, what is the best for indoor shooting, Canon SX60 or Sony DSC-HX400 with broad view? What do you think? Thanks and nice vid.
Can you increase the zoom on this camera by simply adding a more powerful zoom lens and which one would you recommend. We like to shoot the humpbacks from our condo window and find that our jvc video cam gets to grainy.

hi nice review on the camers with this camera can take pictures when you are recording a video at the same time
Thanks for the review. I currently have HX200V and been thinking to upgrade it. Would HX400V be a nice upgrade in terms of functionalities other than 20X additional zoom ?

Great review! Have you tried shooting this camera with ND filter? Will 55mm ND filter fit here?
Based on your review and detail pictures you provided, I bought the camera. Is not SLR but is a great camera.
I love it.
Please if you can do a review on SLR starting from $400 to $1000
Thank You
I'm a beginner. Is it good for TH-cam and casual photos?
Just want to begin with something decent but not too expensive.
Yes
just picked up a nice and boxed s/h example for under $200. Considering what this camera can do that's some extreme value. Of course it's mid winter here and no one is thinking about taking pics or video... so buy now for summer :-)

I wondered how to edit crop in the unit itself as well. I've had it for 4 years and still not sure
Is it a good option to buy in 2020 ??
what do you think this camera will be good for and why would people buy it for what resons
Hi.Great video. Can it take photos while in video mode?
Also can you zoom with left and operate shutter with right for fast moving sports?
Thank you

Hi youe video helped me coz i just bought this camera but didnt know how to use, but you talked abut it but didnt tell me where all these features are 👀😩
For the creative mods inside the camera, as you mention:
Do you first take the regular jpeg and then you work it in post editing using the set of options?
That peak focus, does it also work on video?
Have you compared this camera with the Canon Powershot SX60HS? I'm trying to decide.
Thanks for your very educative video.
Hope you have the time to answer my questions.
Thanks!
I bought the camera after watching this......thank you soo much but i think ill need an expert series on this......do you have??
Wow, I was going to purchase a DSLR (Nikon DS3300), but this is incredible!
Check out my hx300 expert series.
how about auto focus function in HX400v?
HX500V? WITH 4K, slow motion, time lapse, hyperlapse, ND filter, touch screen? That is the camera I need!!!
Is this camera good for flying bird photography?
which one will better one nikon coolpix p610 and sony hx 400v for travelling photography?
How do you get such clear video, mine seems grainy and not as sharp
Please, what video editing software do you use to slow motion from 60 to 30 fps? Thank you.
Hi. Thanks for the insight, really helpful. One more thing, would you mind asking you how did you shoot the video with yourself focused on screen while all the surrounding is blurred?..even objects closer to the camera! Thanks in advance.
+MagicBrews Also the picture in 10:19. Is it the same?
Would you recommend this camera for wildlife?
Would you recommend this camera for lowlight concert settings?
Gait323 also interested about this.
I wanna know that too. 🤔
Don't buy this camera if you want to work with it. For amateur use is great but if you want to do more complex things go for a mirrorless. And yeah I had this camera for a year and a half!
@@davide.valentini is there any way to improve the shooting in low light conditions?
Sir do it supports 4K now ??
hi mike...
How much the picture quality differs between hx400v and some entry level dslr like nikon 3200/3300.
which one would you recommend?
and can i take background blur/defocus pics with hx400v?
i am planning to buy in next few days.
Raju Abhinav yes u can take background blur/defocus pics with hx400v
I bought D3300.
thanks for the reply anyway..

can this camera take bler images on background shots

brainyfaceproject thanks for this really amazing review. I just got the hx400v and was actually wondering about the external mic capabilities..
Show HOW to use all these modes and effects PLZZZZ
are you using a wireless mic to record the voiceover? I can hear a lot of RF disturbance!
Hi Michael, how are you.
Your sony Hx 400 video is great, very well explained and most importantly you love this camera. Thank you for making and sharing this video.
I have few questions

Which camera got greater zoom the Panasonic FZ2000 bridge camera or the Sony HX400V ?
What setting for night shot video? Program or manual ?
Hi Michael !!
Thanks for this lovely review, i have watched all of your videos on youtube, and i love all of them. The way you provide information, helps to learn a lot. When I saw this video, I just couldn't wait to buy this camera, and i just actually bought one. It is an excellent camera. Some may complaint that the sensor is too small, but it can produce such quality pictures that can confuse people whether those were shot with a dslr or what?
You are doing a great job here, best wishes for future
An expert series for hx 400v would be great if you can do so, although there is an expert series for hx 300, but it didn't had my favourite feature [peaking] which the 400v does.

Thanks for this. I have been contemplating buying this and after your review have made up my mind. 👍🏻
Great Video man :)
But the most amazing attractin on this video was the young basketball player :/
He should play NBA :)
Can u plz explain about the charger and charging process?
can it shoot slow motion and time lapse on this one ?
Its a very nice camera I bought one last October Great video pictures are pretty good too, no complaints ........
Does your screen get those white edging every time you use the dmf or mf mode?
Great for filming wild birds, if you're birder! Tested it out recently, vid on my channel. Use a tripod for that though, more stability. It doesn't give you the option of taking off the stabilizer as far as I could see...
hello can you please answer me the question if recording video - if the video stops if it reach the 2 gigabyte filesize, or it generates a new video file for further recording. kind regards
Hi Stefan, while recording video the camera creates another file (it keeps recording) when the first file reaches the 2 GB size.
which is better this one or the Sony HX50. Thanks
Do I have to buy a flash with the camera, or it comes with one? I can't quite see..
It comes work a built in flash.
Excellent vide from start to finish. Thank you.
I also have that camera, but.... to me is not selected the object and turns yellow as you. How do you put?
I am confused between Sony DSC 400V and Canon SX60HS.......Can you suggest which one is better and why?
I prefer the Sony as the blacks are blacker and the whites are whiter and on the Canon, i find the image very soft and lack of detail at full zoom and steadyshot on sony is better and it also has a better Lens.

how do I connect to my iPhone? I don't understand the instructions in the manual
Hi, I am holding a festival abroad, I get the feeling this camera will grab the shots I need to create a video, photos etc for marketing tool for my future events??
for me its this one or the EOS 100D Digital SLR Camera?? please advise me Thank
you
Very nice review, clearly explained and understandable, well done sir.....
Any ideas??
I had the same question! Did you ever get an answer?
I bought a Sony shotgun mic works with the multi shoe mount and mic is awesome!! I didn't want to spend the high $ bought is well worth it. And no hissing noise when recording : Sony ECM-XYST1M Stereo Microphone
MrJlainez11 Thanks for replying! So you just put this mic on the multi shoe mount and it works without plugging it in the camera itself?
Yes and very well!
MrJlainez11 That is great, where did you buy it from?
Is this camera better than the Nikon D3300? Is the aperture bigger than that camera? Is the fact that this can't take pictures in RAW format important? I Want a camera that takes good photos during day and night. Also, is this cameras lense interchangeable?
it really depends on what you want, the d3300 is a dslr with a bigger sensor. What's your use for it?
Márcio Pereira Already bought a D5200. The puny sensor on this Sony point and shoot instantly killed my decision to buy it.
What editor did u use to do that slow motion from 60 frames Please advise. Thanks
Mi primera cámara ❤️
