Really love the color and saturation of the final photos for the Hx400 but the 4k Video capabilities and the RAW photo capture of the b700 makes it seem more appealing
I have the Sony camera I started with the 300 and went to the HX400 last year. For the money, I love this camera.
I already had both, because of my SX50, Canon, have broken after a fall.
Among these, I liked the B700 more, it seems more faithful to the reality than we photographed. Having the RAW format is a great differential, especially in post-editing
Both for me, are better than the P900 and are the same for the SX60, I still prefer the SX50 and if we go to smaller zoom, the Panasonica line is killer.
And here I am wanting that P900 cause it has 80+ zoom... yaiks
Important notice: after purchasing the B700 for the second time, the main thing that caused me to sold the first one was the unpleasant oversharpening of 4K footage. Now, after more deep testing i found out that by default the sharpening is set to a certain, near maximum value, not to zero. you need to use program, shutter, aperture or manual dial setting and then turn the sharpness to zero or maximum only one step up. in that way the video in 4K will be more natural, a bit softier but realistic and much much pleasant to watch. not on the level of panasonic lumix fz series or micro 43 cameras but enought to be acceptable. This camera performs enexpectedly well in low light and the stabilization is really good.

Sony DSC-HX400V ..Bought it a while ago, and learned so much..At begining, and still use it sometimes, the auto mode is great, with fast zoom mechanics and electronics, as well the fast firmware.. Turn on, zoom and shoot! The firmware might look to overwelming, but NO! It teaches so much for future cameras..and also, the display info, you can chose what you don´t want. One more great feature (from several), is color filter mode.. panorama as well! Yes, the display doesn´t turn..less 10x zoom, but besides the 50x zoom, it has digital zoom if.. ! Hey, M-Galaxy.. Great comparison video. I thought I was sold on the Nikon B700. Now I'm not so sure. I'll have to look into this Sony a little more.

Great review!!! I had the Nikon B700, which was stolen so am replacing it with the Sony HX400. For my purposes the Sony seems a better fit, but I do wish it had RAW.
I will go for Sony for following reasons
1. Zeiss lens with T coating
2.It has Intellegent and Superior Auto
3. Manual focus with focus ring , which is like using a DSLR.
I have the HX90V having all the features of HX 400 but very very compact and the low light performance is Absolutely stunning and awesome
Photos, I liked both, but no draws. Either HX400 wins or the B700 wins.
But I think the ability to capture in RAW gives the B700 an edge
In the video, I liked the image of the B700 more, but the stability of the HX400 is superior, which is good to see.

Don't forget that once you shoot raw and edit it, the images on the B700 will look much better.
I like the 60X zoom on the nikon and i like the fact that sony has a mic for this camera even without an external mic input, a mic CAN be attached to it. I haven't decided yet which one to get. But im not a fan of dslr's and switching lenses. Cool video
After having the HX400 for 8 months now, and still having the Lumix FZ80, I can tell you which camera I carry and use on a daily basis.
Sony HX400v.
On paper the specs of the FZ80 are stellar and better than the HX400, but the Sony just plain works better. It's like the Bionz X picture engine is better than the Lumix when it comes to image quality. The big exception is when photographing the moon, the 60x lens of the Lumix really makes a difference over the 50x of the Sony.
I am actually going to buy another HX400 so I can have a fresh one when I wear this one out. I think they are out of production and are getting scarce at retailers.
Bought one 2 years ago on ebay for under £50. Had no idea what I'd stumbled upon until I started using it!
Had a missing corner of the housing which I filled with sugru and it's been solid ever since. It's impossible to replace without spending many times more than what I paid for this
I think image quality is so much more important, that is why I got the Canon sx540 hs. But it is only a 50x zoom, I wish it was a 60x zoom. Cause once you play with zoom cameras, you want more and more and more zoom range.
but b700 has raw mode so we can editing and fix ...
I dropped my 4 year old Sony DSC-HX400 V camera last week and have been looking at the B700. Except that i LOVE my Sony 400V. I like that I have 50x optical zoom plus 50 x digital zoom on the Sony. I'm wondering if you have any youtube videos with photos shot at the clear image zoom end 100x zoom on the Sony compared to the full zoom of the b700? Thank you for your great comparison videos!

Uważam, że zorganizowane pokazy lotnicze są o wiele bardziej interesujące niż próby fotografowania samolotów pasażerskich przelatujących nad głowami na wysokości 11 000 metrów, które i tak często są tylko sylwetkami.

I agree with you about Sony's color depiction. It looks wonderful, but better than what you see with the naked eye.
Thanks. Another good review. With RAW in the B700 it will be possible to correct some of it’s downsides. This plus the better zoom and fully articulated screen make it more appealing despite the Sony being a better build.
I'm looking for a cheap used camera for birding, for when I don't want to take my full camera. I've found both of this are kind cheap , the Sony its like 100/150€ and the Nikon is 200/250€. Is the Nikon worth a bit more? Do you recommend another model in the used market?
I have the nikon b700 for a long time, and I still don't understand how you managed to have such a high quality in the 4k video. What SD did you use?

Loved your comparison! Question: when shooting video with Cybershot, the lens makes noise that gets recorded in the sound. How do i work around that?

Is there any way to adjust the ISO in the sony 400v? Or am I stuck with auto ISO?
There should be if you use PASM modes.
yes you can go into the menu and adjust your ISO. A and P modes are what I use all the time. This camera is wonderful.. do some youtube tutorials to learn all the features. It's a fabulous camera!

HI, thanks for the video, I have one question , l Live in Colombia and there are plenty of birds here, I am not professional photographer but I want to take pics of birds, wich camera you suggest from those two, or are there any other better with a good zoom?
If you want true quality with little less zoom - Panasonic fz1000 or some DSLR like Nikon D3400/D3500 with some basic tele lens 50-200 etc, but I would go with Panasonic - most universal and very good camera. If you prefer most reach - I would go with Nikon B700/P900.

The HX400 has a MSI shoe so you can use any Sony MSI external microphone. The Sony ECMAW4 Wireless Microphone works well for me.

Well, now I'm a little disappointed. I just bought the b700 last week and if I would have seen this comparison first I would have searched more. After watching this video I agree with you that the hx400 is a better all around camera especially that it has better low light and more accurate color. However my relationship with Sony as a corporation is jaded and I will NOT buy their products. I might have gone with a Panasonic or something else though. So anyway, I didn't do very much research because I got a deal on a refurbished b700 direct from Nikon for $240. It's replacing my Nikon p600 which has been a little buggy after I got caught with it in a downpour miles from shelter. I believe the b700 is 2 upgrades from the p600, they use the same battery, look nearly identical. So my learning curve is small I can use photoshop color correction on my favorite pix and overall the b700 is an improvement and an excellent mega zoom camera.
Btw I wish I could have spoken more about the b700 but I've only taken several test shots.

Used FZ1000 if you are lucky.
Read up on the Sony error. Error message E:62:10... It's a stabilization problem that has occurred for many people. The camera will not focus when this happens. I'm looking elsewhere for a super zoom.

TH-camr i haven't tested fz300 so I cant really tell which one is better, but on paper it looks very good. Slightly less zoom, but constant f./2.8 aperture is quite an advantage and it's 4k vidoes will have more deatiles.

To me the Sony picture quality is too technicolour, looks impressive but it's not accurate, Sony do this trick with their TV's also, they oversaturate and boost contrast, so in a showroom they stand out and look impressive, but tireing to live with. The Nikon is much more true to life. Definitely don't agree with the reviewer on many points but then much of this is subjective. Post processing 4K offers way more possibilities also.
But quality in low light also important.
In this point Sony indeed doing very well

Yes. It records in .mp4.
If it takes .RAW files, you'd expect it to be bit more pale. This is a massive + if you wish to edit later.
HX400 doesn't take it RAW (no pun needed).
Just go for the Nikon P900.. :)

Nikon pixpro b700 is quite excellent. Love betterment than shit Samsung galaxy s22 ultra and l m waiting for my new mobile phone by delivery. Its Honor magic 6 pro ! Which honor camera phone should be excellent in photography!! Look forward to it,pay monthly for 2 years
nikon's raw cancels all the bs of "nikon is duller, flatter, bad in low iso, blah blah" for anyone who has a few working neurons and able to control the cam a do any ph postprod. nikon's video is way more detailed, more data in input, better final compression. sony's in-camera hdr on 2 pix and better IOS could count, but its bigger size is a bit neg factor here. you would make a waaay better hdr on a serie of nikon's raw. sony's 2 custom presets are nice to have !
