    I grew up in Detroit where all the muscle cars were built and the 70 and 71 Torino GT was by far the best looking of all of them. Where Ford messed up was taking this hot sexy car and putting in bench seats with a column shift in so many of them and that turned buyers off. They made this beautiful work of art on the outside look like a little old lady's car on the inside and it pissed buyers off. This one was optioned correctly but you see so many of them with the bench seat. People would always end up buying the Mustang because they were optioned the way people wanted them.

    In the 1970s when I was a child, there was a Ford dealer near our house. As my dad would make the turn onto the boulevard, the laser stripes on these would light up and sort of flash as our headlights swept them sitting on the front row. The stripes are reflective and light up at night when your headlights hit them. My dad is gone now but fond memories remain. I loved him so much.

    I had a 71 Torino and 70 Fairlane 500 back in the 90's still have that super long tail lamp hanging in my garage.

    I owned one of these back in the 70's same color but it had the original GT hubcaps that they had then. Mine was a 302 automatic. I put mags on it with big tires. I loved that car but I drove it all the time and after some years went by it started to rust and went downhill real bad. I still have the hubcaps in my cellar and the cowling cover in my garage and lots of pictures of it in it's glory days. I wish I could go back in time.

    Bang on. Loved that “Sportsroof” bodystyle, as Ford called it (trivia - similar roofstyle was used in the Australian Ford Falcon XB, driven by Mad Max in the movies).

    Own a 70 now. Cleveland but it’s 408 cubes now . Love that it’s not as well known or popular. Does make finding parts much more difficult though.

    Back in 78 I had a blue 1.my fellow partyers said, that when searching for our Mountain party's at night, they were always looking for the lazer stripes on my 71.

    love these. I own a '70 Mach, which is a pretty common car...have thought of selling and getting one of these GT's as they are super looking and not near as common. the hideaway headlights was a cool option. big step up to the SCJ from the CJ...SCJ had 4bolt mains, solid cam, big holley. oddly the N code and CJ 429's had quadrajet carbs

    Hood pins weren't option on the GT !!! The cobras came with them best I remember!!! Those 351s with a GT we're usually Cleveland's!!!

    The reality is most become parts cars. Torino parts are expensive and rare as aftermarket is late on their game.

    • @hotrodhendrix1
      @hotrodhendrix1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are not joking. I would say parts are easily twice the cost of a standard classic to restore. Probably three times more than the usuals like mustangs, Chevelle and Maro. Specific parts like that console and shifter are worth a good chunk. That console hinge is gold in my book.

      @@hotrodhendrix1 At least some stuff has recently come out. When I started on my GT they didn't even make repop quarter panels for them yet.

      @@Granite I heard they were working on them. They available now? I had to use a parts car for most the body metal patches.

    My guess , since the noise is up high ... the engine or its pieces are in the trunk and not under the hood

  • @hotrodhendrix1

    This one is a 1970 GT "M" code. Non shacker but buckets and console. 351 Cleveland 4v. 4v is different heads with massive valves and 4 barrel carb. Trans would be the FMX. Being an m code in that shape it is definitely worth restoring. In 71 these options would have been badged a cobra instead of GT. Shackles might be busted or the leafs are just really sagging. Nice videos. Glad I ran into your channel

    Repaint it the original colors, slap a 390 CJ stroker under the hood, c6 transmission, 9 inch posi rear end, disc brakes all around, get a different trunk lid for a sports fin and install the hideaway headlights for that meaner look!

    The best Full width highly garneshed taillight I've ever seen on a automobile , Even today's dumber design and name for a taillight as goofier Podge likes to call it a Gacetrack Light even on their super gross so-called Lossovers.
