Sony Pulse Explore Earbuds Review | One Month Later...

- Reviewing Sony's Pulse Explore gaming earbuds for Playstation, using LINK tech to connect to the PS5 and PS Portal, after a month of testing. The Sony Pulse Explore buds are a headset replacement, with Bluetooth compatibility - although as everyday earbuds they ain't the best!

If you want a pair of good quality earbuds with zero latency when gaming on the Sony Playstation 5 or your Portal, the Pulse Explore deliver. They're crazy big but that performance is excellent, with a few drawbacks like the obligatory PS5 dongle. Battery life isn't great, but I wouldn't want to be gaming for more than five hours with these stuck in my head anyway.
As true wireless earbuds, the Sony Pulse Explore buds are a step back from most rivals at this price. The case is huge, limiting portability, while the lack of ANC (active noise cancelling) is a big minus. But these wireless earbuds are designed for gaming first, and on that front I've got only a few complaints. So if you have a PS5 or PS Portal and you want a lag-free audio experience, the Pulse Explore are worth considering - on sale.

The case isn't simply a case, Sony just updated them for the first time, you had to connect the case to the ps5. Connect quicker, sound better, equaliser support and no drop out as yet 🤞.

Hey, any chance you tried if you can plug in one dongle into PS5 and pair both Pulse Explore and Pulse 3D with it, so you can use whichever one you like at the moment without need for a second dongle?

How is it switching between PS5 and Portal? If I transfer to the Portal while playing a game will the earbuds switch or stay connected to the PS5?
I’m pretty sure since the PlayStation portal has to be connected to your ps5 in order to use the portal in the first place yea, your essentially just moving screens I don’t see why the audio would stop
overall? are these good for gaming? or just get the headset? i somt want a headset dent on my head thats why ive been looking for a earbud option

my issues is connect cuts out for a sec every time battery bar goes down or random like every 30 or so min see no reviews talk about this but if you google it there is alot of people saying the same thing, i dont expect a £200 device to disconnect every so often its annoying
I returned it due to disconnection issue. I couldn't find any youtube reviewer who mentioned this but there are quite of people are claiming the same in reddit. Inzone works flawlessly on my ps5.

I ended up sending mine back before 14 day returns policy was up.. Connection issues via PlayStation Link. Really tinny audio, Felt the bass was flat personally but thats subjective.
They are comfy to wear however but just feel these are never £200. Need to fix the connection issues and dramatically reduce the price imo.

Has anyone experienced the issue where the earbuds just for no reason disconnect from the link? Have to reset and pair from start. So disappointed.

Really wanted these as they'd be perfect for psvr2 and they look pretty decent but there's no fu@@in way I'm paying £200 for them, I only paid £379 for the ps5

Hello there! Just gotten the Pulse Explore yesterday with great excitement, but I’ve been having a horrible experience when I use it directly with PS Portal. Constant stuttering and bad quality, however it’s pretty good with the dongle on PS5…
And on the iPhone, music sounds very weak (no bass, too crisp), huge difference from Airpods 2nd gen (not even pro).
Is this normal? Anybody else had these issues? Could it be defect product, should I return it?
Normal unfortunately. iPhones don’t support the low latency codec these earbuds use. Android does though.
I have used these and I had Connection issues a bit like it will go silent for 2 seconds disconnect then re connect on my PS5 Which is Werid and today I sounded like I was underwater I kinda disappointed in that n for a couple of minutes my left ear starts to hurt n idk if I’m putting them on my ear right but I know I am and they just hurt my left ear only my right ear is find n they come out my ear a lil so I’m constantly adjusting them after a couple of mines idk if Sony is aware with these issues but yeah that’s my experience with them so far but other then that they are loud and with the right ear tips u can hear a lil base! On them!
Has anyone experienced the issue with listening to the phone and only getting sound out of the left ear bud.
u said it can work with two devices, but can it work with just two Bluetooth devices only like a phone and a laptop for instance

They disconnect a lot almost way too much i do plan on eventually selling them on craigslist and getting something else I didn’t think not having a transparency mode would be a big deal but being a dad an having my kid an wife talk to me every now and then it is pretty annoying having to say”hold up” an then taking the ear bud out to hear them
This is for me as a gamer wearing glasses. I just need these to be sounding good and have low latency.

Yeah, the price is outrageous for these. I assume they'd work with the XM5 TW earbuds or an adapter for others e.g Momentum TW3 like I have.
Edit: was under the impression Sony's own earbuds/headphones would be compatible with the Portal/PS5 wirelessly but unfortunately this is not the case.
I love my PS5 and will be getting the portal, but don't appreciate the restrictions on bluetooth, especially with the price being close to the XM5 TW or Momentum TW3/same price as the Portal/lacking many key features for on-the-go usage.

Sony had that dongle on my ps4 wireless headset and it sucked when I lost it. To see that they haven’t changed their ways almost a decade later has killed any hope I had for them

Would have been smart with Sony would have made their 1000XM5 earbuds compatible with the PS5. They are already one of the better earbuds in the market!

I own both the Inzone and Pulse Explore buds & I personally prefer the Inzones. The Pulse Explores sound good with lots of clear separation and also get loud enough on my phone…but unfortunately PS5 use is a bit quiet at full volume. Dual connectivity is great on them as well…I only wish the Inzones had that feature.
How good are they and which ones? Been wanting to get a new headset for my ps5, but not sure.
@@USERUSER4PF IMO…If you’re after earbuds instead of an over ear headset…Inzones all day. They get loud enough and sound great even with no eq options on PS5. However, they don’t offer dual connectivity or standard Bluetooth options for most devices. Only supports BT LE.
If you have PSVR2, I think the inzones won’t work. Since there is only one USB-C port on the PS5, I don’t think the headset will run off a port extender.

I actually think not being able to use the earbuds' volume buttons for bluetooth sources is a clever design because you won't be adjusting the console's and the bluetooth device's volumes at the same time.
Can I link it with Android TV via Bluetooth and play ps5 without the dongle??

These earbuds constantly disconnect from samsung galaxy s23 ultra and when watching any streaming service lose sync with audio and video. Disconnects from ps5 occasionally, worst earbuds I've owned.

Nobody is mentioning no the constant disconnections when playing in the PS5, mine disconnects every 10 seconds specially from the R side and I’m now on my second pair since I was told by Sony that my original set was defective and I should send it back for repair instead I returned it and got a new ones to encounter the same issue

Connections are horrible with these. Constantly losing connection, having to press the dongle to switch back to the PS5 and portal. Sometimes only one bud connects. No excuse for these items when you make your own “link” format for communication.
Bigger case is better. I'm not sure why amateur reviewers think that smaller is better or better designed. Reminds of the 2000s race to make the smallest cellphone for them only to resign to bigger cellphone displays we have today.

Meh, i was tempted by these as the Pulse headset just wrecks my bloody ears after an hour or so (What are you doing Sony?) But sadly due to the astronomical price for what you get, these can fuck rate off!

They definitely look like they're supposed to go in (upside down) so weird! and expensive! I would never pay $200 for these. I've had many earbuds over the years and you did a year out of them at best. Mine usually last about 6 months (I actually work for a living😮)😂

I won’t be buying them , I have the over ear pulse headphones and the constantly cut out for a couple of seconds every now and then , and the sound quality isn’t worth the price .
There is no way these are worth £199.00....thats the SAME price as the portal itself. I'll be using a working around device so I can use my airpods pro or pixel buds. They isn't exactly a glorious review and no active noise cancellation. Plus they do look huge. Nope Sony are taking the wee wee....particularly in the UK.

Lay your ps5 down, trust me a ps5 repairer said it lasts longer if you lay it down cause standing it up moves all the liquid thate meant to cool the chip down, and then the top of the chip gets burnt

These are gaming earbuds designed for gaming and gaming only. They arent designed for you to use casually with your smartphone on the go. They arent airpods.......... So trying to use the Pulse Explorers for that sounds just as silly as you trying to use your Pulse 3D headset casually on the go and for music lol. Second of all they have planar magnetic drivers which arent designed for and cannot do heavy bass . They are designed for clear and accurate audio which in my opinion is perfect for gaming as it gives a more immersive experience. That tech is usually only found in super high-end headphones, that are $900 +
