also bought rgb pi cable to try that on a raspberry 3+ in a 24 inch tv, you should get some cherry switches on those buttons and also a better encoder for less lag.
I did get some cherry switches eventually! Did not change the encoder though. I also haven't upgraded the joysticks. Piece by piece.
Beautiful arcade! Could you tell me how to access the "Video Player" option in the systems menu? I couldn't find the directions for adding movies or the details of the formats RGB Pi supports. I hope you can help me. Thanks a lot!
Thanks for watching. Please consider subscribing. All you need to do is goto your "roms" folder, inside there there should be a folder called "videoplayer" (if not create one) drop your movies or videos into that folder then the video player option will show up in the systems menu after a reboot. The movies I have are .mp4 format. I don't know what all formats are supported. Good luck! Let me know if that works for you.

Thanks for making this video. I have recently purchased an RGB-Pi and its great. Have you come across any games that ask "image mode" then 2 options Original or Forced. Would like a way to disable this and just always go straight in to original. Any help on this would be great.
Yes a few games like the Mortal Kombat series ask thIs. I don't know a way to bypass the option screen. I've noticed the games that have this option also do not perform as well as I would expect them to.

The thing is that you set it at a 60hz refresh rate and it's still not the exact refresh rate as the game. If you hit tab and check the emulation speed versus the game's clock speed then you'll see what I mean.

Would you reccomend the Pi 3 or 4 together with the RGB-Pi scart connector?
It really depends on what your goals are for your system and what OS you intend to use. If you're using RGB-Pi OS and don't care about lightgun support then Pi 3 is fine because OS2 runs on Pi 3. If you want lightgun support and some better performance for N64 games then Pi 4 will be better but the OS4 alpha is not as fully featured as OS2 yet.
Nice image. I have a similar setup with a hdmi to ypbpr converter. Do you think that with scart to component would give me a better quality?
I don't know for sure. My amateur guess would be that Analog to Analog would look better than Digital to Analog which is what you're running. I would assume HDMI to ypbpr is having to do some resolution scaling along the way too.

It’s a brilliant system but where do you put the samples for mame ? I tried all sorts of cores etc but I can’t get them to work for donkey kong etc
Hmm, I'm not exactly sure what you mean. Once you expand the filesystem to your external USB there should be folders for you to place your ROMs and BIOS files into. I suggest joning the RGBpi discord channel and subsequently their Telegram group if that's still in use. You'll find everything you need there.

I cannot get any roms or system folders to display except mame2003plus, any ideas as not help at all on RGB pi website and when i emailed them they werent even bothered enough to try and help me, just fobbed me off to the discord groups, thanks. Any help appreciated as the roms I have work 100% it just wont find them? I have them on an external USB formatted by the RGB PI menu

Not sure. I ordered mine from the source (Spain) I think. Only took 1.5 weeks to arrive if I remember correctly.

Great video. I was originally looking for a HDMI to VGA adapter and VGA to scart cable from my gaming PC to my CRTs. However I might just get an RGB-PI 4B now with Argon M.2 case. Has much moved on with RGB-PI since this video?
Actually yes! They just released an Alpha version of their OS4 that's compatible with the RPi4 that supports lightgun games using the Guncon lightgun. The previous version of the os in my video is only compatible with the RPi2/3 so be aware of that. I believe if you look on their wiki page they have configs so you can use the gpio to scart cable with other systems like retropie. But don't quote me on that. RGB-pi.com
@@MakeItSo Many thanks. I had a quick look at their site and I believe they are the ones that also sell the GPIO to SCART cables.
@@davieslm They do, I have their cable and both OS's on separate RPi's. OS4 is not ready for prime time still in alpha but its very promising. I have my OS2/3 version dialed in a it's been a perfect arcade machine. Looks so good going SCART > Component in on my CRT.
If you buy their cable they give you access to their telegram channel where you can download Bios and Rom packs all pre-configured to work with the OS.

Usually you would adjust the "overscan" settings in the software. This system should give you true to game output resolutions and scaling. So if the image doesn't fit your screen that could be a physical problem with your CRT calibration.

Quite surprised that 20inch consumer crt tv can produce such defined scanlines.
I think that's the big difference between Composite and Component inputs. Component like I'm using is basically like having a factory RGB mod.
@@MakeItSo Well, on my 21 inch trinitron the lines are pressed as tight to each other as a drum, and the type of output doesnt change the lines gap much whether its composite or scart - rgb (greetings from PAL btw). Also had an experience with a couple of jvc 21 inchers and a one of samsung. Give or take same story. And so my conclusion was that the linegap becomes noticable after 24/25+ inches unless its a pvm/bvm displays. But your case with that beauty broke that point.

Strange color combination for an arcade machine, better to play in the dark. Either the crt is too small or the cabinet too wide.
