    I really hate the fact that modern GPUs have removed the ability to run native 240p like this, basically forcing us to only be able to use super resolutions which don't work for native PC games, I don't understand why remove features that can be useful to certain niches like this one.

      It's misinformation at best. This would introduce significant lag, and the resolution would squash most true analog signals. There is no true resolution on an analogue monitor. Anything outside the chosen custom resolution would be inaccurate in both scale and refresh rate.

    By far the best video out there. I almost settled for GroovyMame or CRT Emu Driver with an old school ATI card in my arcade cab but SuperModel emulator was terrible on it.
    For me, I didn’t need the vga to scart adapter.
    I went HDMI to VGA converter into a JPAC initially. This is because the JPAC has some sort of protection that won’t allow a display outside of the jumper on the board range (in my case 15khz). I then followed this guide to get 240p/15khz to the JPAC adapter (this solution may suit some people but I couldn’t be bothered wiring up the extra wires for 6 buttons due to the fact, my cab needs a kick harness). Instead, I used the Jammaizer and have just ordered 2 brooks boards to get the 6 button config easier.
    The reason I didn’t configure the jammaizer whilst defining the resolution via the nvidia app was because it doesn’t have the built in protection that the JPAC has for if you happen to throw a non supported resolution at it (could ruin your CRT).
    Again, thank you. I managed to use your theory to get the result I need and play games such as Virtua Fighter 3 and Virtua Striker 2 as well as some of the TeknoParrot games like Outrun 2 on my arcade cabinet!!

  • @stainp

    I'm using a modern AMD card with displayport to vga>vga to rgb (I needed to change the sync to go over green so I guess it's actually YPbPr?) and getting a scrambled signal on my PVM 14n2u. After fiddling with a program called Custom Resolution Utility, I forced a 320x240p signal to it which unscrambled it to the point that it was a steady image (Making sure that the actual signal was 15khz.) Only problem was that the image was a very strange aspect ratio that tiled across the screen. I'm going to try fiddling with the program some more to see if I can get a proper image.

    • @stainp
      @stainp ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Still fighting with it, but I am able to output interlaced video albeit at a weird aspect ratio and tiled (essentially the image is squished and duplicated once over.) Interestingly original xbox is also outputting the same way over component. I'm guessing that vga2scart adapter is the key to this.

    • @stainp
      @stainp ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Update with vga2scart converter. Has made zero difference. Same signal issues. I've tried dozens upon dozens of settings with custom resolution utility and no luck. I think I'll have to try the emudriver at some point.

    • @lancepage1914
      @lancepage1914 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@stainp First of all if you have an AMD GPU, even a modern one - you need to use CRTemudriver. It's a pretty involved set up, but once it is nothing works better.
      Secondly, try a HDMI to VGA converter. They don't cost much and have no noticeable latency. When using CRTemudriver, you can set up a virtual EDID with the selected HDMI out. That will make your life a lot easier as it will always default to the resolution that you configure as desktop resolution.
      Third, you may have to set up super resolution modelines. This is especially important with modern GPU because they have a higher pixel clock minimum. Basically that means that's the only way to get 240p 15khz, for example: 2560x240p.

      @@londonretrovideogames1473 Yeah you can, I used to run it on my main gaming rig which at the time had both my GTX 980ti and AMD HD 5450 and it was great. Only downside was certain Steam games with Anti-Cheat (Ex. Dragonball Fighterz) require Windows Test Signing turned on. But when you're running CRT Emudriver (Custom Drivers Not Approved by Windows) Test signing has to be turned off in order for CRT Emudriver to work. So it was a pain in the ass constantly enabling/disabling test signing and having to reboot. So I ended up picking up a Dell Optiplex 7020 for $100, refurbished it, installed my AMD 5450 and am using that as a dedicated retro games pc for Launchbox/Big Box/RetroArch and Fightcade.
      I recently upgraded my main GPU to a RTX 3060 and my old GTX 980ti is just sitting in it's box. I'de pair it with my AMD 5450, but the Optiplex, 7020 only has one PCI-E for 1 GPU... So if I can install a 600w power supply in the Optiplex to power my 980ti... This could be epic.

      @@londonretrovideogames1473 Yeah you can render with one and use another for just displaying to the TV/Monitor, one thing I've found is that is better to use different brands as drivers can collide when they're different generations of the same brand i.e an old AMD GPU with a new AMD GPU, like having an HD 5450 and a RX 6700 at the same time would create a conflict since the drivers you need for the HD 5450 are super old as it's been EOL for a long time while you need new drivers for the RX 6700, same with nvidia, a 710 with a RTX 3060 is a no-go. But with different brands you could have a crazy combo like an HD 5450 and a RTX 4090 at the same time with no conflicts (hopefully)

    • @VAMPIREMACHIINE
      @VAMPIREMACHIINE 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ An advantage of using CRT Emudriver is being able to load different super resolutions on your video card to take advantage of Retroarch’s CRT Switch Res feature. That way when you’re playing games with different super resolutions (ex. 2560x224, 2560x240, 2560x480) Retroarch will automatically switch super resolutions. If you’re only using Nvidia settings, you’ll have to manually change your super resolution when loading different games.. big pain in the ass. Not to mention you can also use a stronger gpu to render your front end software and Retroarch and then export the 15khz video to your with crt via your emudriver gpu. So yeah, crt emudriver will save you lots of time and makes using a front end software like Launchbox/Bigbox seamless. It works amazing.

While it works well with emulators as you can stretch the output to full screen, running games out of Steam or from their native launcher usually doesnt offer a "stretch" to full screen option. In such cases, if I wanted to use the Sony Trinitron in these cases, i'd change my output to 640x480i, which works but no juicy scan lines.

You could get something that is a more standard hdmi to scart adapter but it'll have a little lag. Most of these output 480i/576i which I talk about in the video. @@londonretrovideogames1473 Interesting you may have solved the issue. My CRT TV might be a PAL CRT and my GameCube being NTSC is not communicating the image properly. I tested my gamecube on a Sony Wega CRT and it filled up the whole screen perfectly. When I hooked up my Dvd player and even ps3 in S-video it fills the whole screen perfectly, so I did conclude that the black bars on the side is part of the picture the GameCube is generating. I tested 240p and its perfectly fine fills the whole screen even with a N64 though being a NTSC. The CRT is Samsung TX-R2035 and I am looking online or even the back sticker and dont see it being a PAL CRT. The CRT does say 60hz on the back , and I do know PAL CRT had dif hz rating not to sure. Also read online that 3rd party based cable could cause the gamecube to send a 16/9 image rather than a 4/3 so i am waiting on OEM cable I bought to test once more and see.

      Where are you based? You need an hdmi or displayport to vga adapter, a vga2scart box and a scart to scart cable

    hi there, do i need any particular type of CRT monitor? a recommend spec they must have so that can work?
    i want to connect a VGA PC CRT monitor and play 240p.
    thanks in advance!

      This here is for playing on a crt tv with scart input. I have numerous vga crts too. For that you have two options for 240p, one is run 120hz and then black frame insertion for 60hz which you can do in retroarch. Other option is 480p and use artificial scanlines to block every other line back to 240p. Both will give a BVM like look but with reduced brightness so get a late, high end crt monitor. Personally I'd suggest a crt tv for 240p though. Hope this is useful

    I found my old red blue green wires cable (rgb or ypbpr?) that came with my old nvidia gpu, but if connected to scart crt it won't work.. I searched internet for hours and hours, does anyone know this works?

    • @londonretrovideogames1473

      That sounds like component output rather than rgb and component isn't typically transferred over scart. Find me on instagram and send me a dm and I might be able to help more

    This is absolutely NOT lag free. Test it lol, you're down at least a frame. There is no technology that converts HDMI digital to analogue without additional latency. Mister Laggy is cheap if you want to see for yourself. You're also not getting the true resolutions of the games you're trying to play. They don't use the resolution you're choosing. You'd have to create one for each game as they all used wildly varying outputs. CRTs don't have standard resolutions, nor screen sizes. Nor would you have appropriate frame rates or sync. CRTs operate in multitudes of frequency spectrum. Typical arcade games are 15hz for example, so you're not running them at the right frame rates either. Boot up Samurai Showdown in MAME and look at the shadows. They likely don't appear, stay solid, or flicker out of sync. There is SO much misinformation out here. What you are very specifically doing is just stretching a source the same way any cheap amazon converter would do, but with more convoluted steps and expense. The appropriate way to do this is with a Mister device running Groovymame video passthrough. It introduces lag, but far less than you are, and scales the resolution and sync correctly.

    Eh scart. We don't have scart in the US. The obsession with scart is so annoying.
