Watch me update this eight times but to start: at 3:39 I LOVE this theory - that the “ancestor spirits” inside the dragons have access to the astral plane and thus are unmoored in the river of time and can see past and present? No wonder they’re sending dreams - it’d be like trying to shout through soundproofing that the house is on fire.

What a huge one! Thanks for this video, Mr David Lightbringer person! You're making HOTD / ASOIAF really enjoyable for me and I'm always glad to see new uploads from the channel! ♥
In Tolkien's lore all dragons have basically 2 spirits. Glaurun's (Father of Dragons) eyes "glow with Morgoth spirit", since hi used to infuse all his works and creations with it, to make them mor powerfull. In the end, that kind of makes him luse his "grace" and become lass ancelical than the other Ainur... Very Valyrian vibes, right?
Your theories are always so fascinating and well done! Would love a full breakdown of Yi Ti at some point; you’ve touched on it but a video solely devoted to it would help the gap between seasons (and books) so much! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Gotta say I love that the creators in this community recommend one another’s content. Keep encouraging one another and teaching your audience how to admire rather than compete 👏👏👏
I thought in the Tapestry opening, the man standing behind the woman with the sword and the bowl, was Azor Ahai making Lightbringer, by plunging it through Nyssa Nyssa's heart.
Yes! And can easily be Sacrificing his wife to hatch a dragon egg! Because it's not so clear that he's literally making a sword in that image! I think it's a clue
I always thought that part of preparing an egg for hatching was a sacrifice. The dragon keepers knew this and took care of it without bothering the Targaryens. Once the keepers all died in the ahem…incident…, no one knew it required a death to prep the eggs.
I was convinced as soon as you started talking about Dreamfyre. They say she's a "notorious egg layer," which resonates a little too well with Rhaena's egg hatching methodology. In this theory, some Valyrian ancestor spirit in Dreamfyre is bent on hatching more dragons, but might have realized in Helaena's time that all the dragons are well and truly boned, instead sending her warnings of the horrors to come.
It’s been said that some Targaryens have been dreamers but according to this theory it can be that some dragons are dream senders instead. And what’s interesting is when we look at all the dragonriders who were dreamers, they were either the rider of Balerion, Dreamfyre or Drogon. Dreamfyre could be coming from Balerion and it’s been said that Dany’s eggs were Dreamfyre’s but stolen. So maybe it’s only that dragon lineage who sends the dreams or just the stronger
@@alex52043 Yes, I know. But Dreamfyre was an highly fertile dragon as I know and she was in the dragon pit longer than Syrax or any other known fertile dragons, so maybe the dragon eggs which brought dreams to Targaryens post-civil war are still her eggs. Not that I strongly defend, just an idea
I will just kind of put all my thoughts in this comments. I'm very lazy when it comes to writing in English, but I have noticed some little things, especially about the dragon's lore, and I don't take any part in fandom discussions, but I don't think anyone has ever said that the wyverns in Sothoryos are the pterodactyls. In Tolkien's lore the fell beasts are very similar to those dinosaurs, and they have BEAKS, one of the things that makes there species very NOT dragons. I think the wyverns in George's story could be a reference to the Fell Beasts.
Dragonlords of ancient asshai was the video that got me into your channel, a true banger..this one is a banger also, new theories always rolling in, gotta love it!
14:40 we got another clue to this in HotD I think, we're told Rhaena (Daemon's daughter) attempted to claim a dragon on dragonstone but was rejected. Could be because she already has a bond with the unhatched Morning 37:45 I've been saying for a little while now, I think all three of those examples specifically saw visions of Dany's dragons hatching. All three scenarios have the three big things in common: lots of fire, a sacrifice of kings blood, and dragon eggs. And just a few days ago when I reread Dany's dream of Drogon hatching, HOH BOY does it sounds like what Aerys tried to do to King's Landing
Kind of seems like male dragon dreamers are prone to madness.... Which also makes me theorize it wasn't Aegon the Conqueror doing any dreaming but one or both of his sisters, though my money is on Visenya. Perhaps I've just been watching too much Wheel of Time lately though hahahahaha
Does anyone else think the dragon lords with swords in Dany's dream are previous Azor Ahais communicating with her. Kinda like Deku and previous one for all users

This makes me wonder if the first Targaryen ancestor who was sacrificed to create a dragon bond was a sorcerer/seer. Could explain why Daenys and the Targaryens were warned of the Doom of Valyria and not all the other dragonlords.
Wow I watched this all. The way George wrote the dragons themselves communicating with their riders through dreams is so amazing. I think it might be only a few dragons but Rhaena is grated for the baby cradle idea
I just imagine the dragon in Jon's egg in the winterfell crypts psychically reaching out to Danys dragons and being like "this dude doesn't even know he's a Targaryen, we are so screwed."
Hey, David. I mostly listen while working, so don't get to comment much. I listen to all kinds of ASoIaF creators now, but you were the one who originally captured my attention. Just wanted to say thanks! Appreciate your vids.
I was not expecting this show to have massive lore dumps. Loving it. The showrunners are still doing some of their own thing, but you can see how much everyone involved really loves the world and stories that George created.
31:16 Hearing you tell us to look up Carry on my Wayward Son made me cackle at the thought that you somehow managed to avoid any interaction with Supernatural's fandom influence. Good
Omg I love this idea and it makes the dragons EVEN COOLER! Like, it's the dragons that have been giving the Targaryens/ their riders dreams this whole time?! It also really scratches an itch biologically for me. Coz like, if you're a dragon stuck in an egg, and you want to hatch, but you need fire in order to do so, a good way to make this happen (if you're magical that is), is to psychically communicate to someone that you need fire/ to be put in fire. Like a tree, you cannot move yourself, so you get a mammal to move you instead. So what magical adaption have you come up with? Send them dreams about putting you in fire. It's interesting as well haha, as dragons only hatching in fire is a bit like flora in Australia, some of which is fire-resistant, but some of which actually LIKE fire -- either because it benefits their population/ species in the long run (it helps them survive/ propagate while hurts their competitors) OR because fire is when they release their seeds/ fire is the only thing that cracks open their seeds. Edit: only half way through, but had to comment haha, but weird that THREE different Targaryens attempted in some way to get dragons back (Egg and Summerhall, the guy who drank the fire and killed himself, and the Mad King) but only ONE seemed to have dragon eggs on them when they tried to do this? I mean, the Mad King was mad, and I suppose the guy who drank the fire was well, probably mad as well, but how come no dragons hatched at Summerhall if Egg had fire, a blood sacrifice (seemingly, since a lot of people died I think), and he himself was a Targaryen? Also, if these three got the dreams yet where the only ones to act on it (or rather, act on it in such dangerous/ life threatening ways) it could mean that others also had similar dreams about dragons coming from fire, however, since they never acted/ tried to make this occur, we don't know. I mean, ik other Targaryens had dragon dreams, but did they specifically have dreams about dragons coming from fire, like these three (and Dany) did? Edit: it could also be that the original dragon-tamers/ people who created the bond btw dragons and humans (if it was created) saw/ had some access to the future, and then with each dragon they bonded to, the dragons got these dreams of the future. Then, when/ if their rider died, the dragon would be the 'storage' for the memories of the future and they would give this to their riders AND their eggs. This would explain why Dany had the vision of the Gemstone Emperors -- they could have been the ones to originally connect/ have access to the future, connect to the dragons, which had access to the future as well, and thus Dany is not rather seeing back in time but seeing a memory through the dragon dream of Drogon's ancestor seeing/ bonding with this. Idk, I know this is a stretch but your question of where are these prophecies coming from is interesting -- like are dragons just always connected/ can forsee the future, or could it be that back in time there was like an event/ source which allowed them to see thousands of years into the future, and then pass this information down to other dragons and to riders.
This would mean that it would cement the theory that Dany’s dragons are the ones stolen by Elisa Farman. Because if they were any other clutch Dany would probably struggle to bond with them due to them having the wrong ancestors inside them.
There's probably a link between dragons and R'hollor, what with the whole visions and 'fire made flesh' thing. Makes me wonder how that'd play out re: the Valyrian gods - like, if your personal WMDs are connected to a *different* god entirely, how would your *actual* gods take that?
Paired with GRRMs NotABlog dedicated to dragons, I took away some interesting notes, mainly on the point abt George saying, "𝘔𝘺 𝘥𝘳𝘢𝘨𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘯'𝘵 𝘯𝘰𝘮𝘢𝘥𝘪𝘤". He laid out that the Dragons basically "know home" & for the storyline, "Home" = Dragonstone & they don't stray too far from the isle bc all the dragons were born on Dragonstone. EXCEPT for Balerion who was born in Valyria. He says artificial homes, like the dragonpit will suffice, but it's also bc their dragonriders are nearby. KL dragonpit, dragonriders in Red Keep. 2(½ lol) reasons why that stuck out: • Aerea/Balerion's trip to Valyria ½• Balerion/Viserys "bond" • Nettles/Sheepstealer living in the mountains of the Vale; "fire witch & her dragon" My theory is that Balerion only gives ONE DREAM & it's a Doomsday Prophecy: • Daenys = Doom of Valyria • Aegon I = The Long Night • Viserys = The Dance of Dragons ~ I don't include Aerea bc Idk if she actually "bonded" with Balerion, so much as maybe she hitchhiked a ride on him & he decided "I wanna go home" & took off for Valyria & that ultimately was both of their undoing. ~ I don't include Maegor BUT ALOT of what transpired during Maegor's reign sets the stage for Viserys/The Dance...& since they introduced the idea of "Aegon's Dream" & it being passed down from King/Ruler to Heir. We have to suspect Maegor knew the Prophecy. Viserys' dream, as outlined in HOTD: "Our son born wearing Aegon's crown. I heard the sound of thundering hooves, splintering shields & ringing swords. I placed our son upon the Iron Throne & all the dragons roared as one." Viserys' Dream was a warning, again "doomsday" ⚠️ He perfectly describes the Dance. He thought it was triumphant tho, but it was actually WAR. The "dragons roaring as one", is all the dragons screaming bc they're dying. It was always meant to be a warning: Don't chase after a male heir. I also feel strongly that bc Viserys talks so much about Legacy, he thought that bc of HIS dream, HE was the one to sire the Prince/Promised & his judgement was clouded by Aegon's Dream. So he pushed for multiple tries to have a male heir w/ Aemma...we know how that ended. Viserys talks about it in that (amazing) Bonfire scene (Ep3/S1). I think Viserys claiming/riding Balerion ONCE is also a factor. Viserys in the show says he had that dream vividly ONCE & never again. I think that has to do w/ Balerion dying quickly after Viserys claimed him. An important detail is Viserys' mistrust of the dragons. He's actively kinda against the dragons. I think that's why his health suffered AND I think that's why the Throne "rejected" him (he always got cuts/wounds & they never healed). I believe it's all tied together. My point abt Nettles/Sheepstealer & why I'm covering it last, I think that's a preemptive strike from GRRM against HOTD 𝘐𝘍 the rumors are true that they're changing dragon-lore & Rhaena = Nettles in the show. I think he wants it explicitly known Sheepstealer would NEVER be in the Vale roaming around. It's a gentle way of saying "that's nonsense" 😅 The "fire witch" portion of Nettles story/mystery. I always LOVED it. I think the Nettles fandom is split between: She's an ordinary person who thru quick wit (or commonsense) bonded w/ a dragon & became a dragonrider. OR she has magic of some sort & along w/her commonsense, she bonded w/a dragon. I'm in the latter camp. I love the idea of Nettles having some kind of magic. I somewhat fall in-line w/ GreyArea's theory that Nettles might be part CoF. That's why there's this random bond between Nettles & Daemon towards the end of his life. Why he chooses Harrenhal/Isle of Faces to make his "last stand" & it being a MASSIVE blood/magic sacrifice to the Old Gods. ^^I'm in-line w/you tho that Daemon ISN'T a Greenseer or the progenitor of Bloodraven. I just think Daemon somehow comes across supernatural information -- maybe Rhaenyra explains Aegon'sDream finally or Nettles/CoF tells him of WWs? -- & he chooses for the greater good to make this sacrifice.
FANTASTIC VID DAVID!! Here are a few thoughts this sparked in me, if fire made flesh give dragon dreams, does ice made flesh give "other dreams"? Are their multiple "heads" in an Other (despite them looking like twins/clones)? Can we think about the expelled hivemind of the others in a similar fashion to the draconet? Could the others be sending dreams to Stark "blood of the other" people? Additionally, is each Valyrian family's draconet isolated? What happens to a draconet after the family dies/no new sacrifices given? Do the draconets need a physical place to reside (e.g. volcanos instead of weirwoods)? Can we glean/postulate anything about this or forgotten/abandoned weirwoodnets/hiveminds in Essos?
If house targaryen were abolitionist and had tried to unite the seven kingdoms and rule it by themselves, the valyrian freehold would have almost certainly intervened to stop it. That necessitates the doom. If true however, the Targaryens clearly forgot their abolitionist roots by Viserys I time, going by HOTD. The focus on uniting the seven kingdoms clearly took priority, given how nostalgia for old valyria was prominent in their views from that point on.
21:52 it's also mentioned so many times that dragons prefer volcanic hot spots - "just so happens" that Winterfell is built on a hot spring.. seems like the right place to find an egg

thank you so much Michel! what's your dragon's name, he's on point
The art!!! So good! What an excellent video David! My favorite content always involves Dragons and Dreamers.
I really missed those kind of videos from you. Be good Lucifer
I think this might be one of my favorite videos from you, it’s so well done and it encompasses like 10 theories in one, it’s beautiful😍 Cleo’s dancing and singing really does wonders!😂 Great job on this, as always, and I’m certain this will join the list of the ‘videos to rewatch’ when I need the fix on asoiaf theories🙌🏼💕
I really like that sunday is just full of all kinds of HOTD and ASOIAF videos. Sunday is the day of Ice and Fire. Love your vids david.
the art!!! the eyes convey so many emotions at once. ertac KILLED IT!! and this theory is sick🔥🔥 i love it
What a huge one!
The art looks so good!
Going to watch the whole video
I always thought that part of preparing an egg for hatching was a sacrifice. The dragon keepers knew this and took care of it without bothering the Targaryens. Once the keepers all died in the ahem…incident…, no one knew it required a death to prep the eggs.
YESSS! David! David! David! David is the champion David is the champion!
Okay, did not expect to hear Kansas, tho.. - Robby Steinhardt's fabulous ginger locks are only the 17th most epic part of that music vid 🧡🤘
There were a few dreamers in the Dunk and Egg series as well. This was after the death of the dragons.
I love the idea of actual dragons lairing an advanced psychic dragon culture from Stygai, and Ashai doesn't fully know, so the secret remains.
When you put it like that, it's like distant future hell Pern.
I see David Lightbringer, I click! Awesome video as usual.
Could be because she already has a bond with the unhatched Morning
37:45 I've been saying for a little while now, I think all three of those examples specifically saw visions of Dany's dragons hatching. All three scenarios have the three big things in common: lots of fire, a sacrifice of kings blood, and dragon eggs. And just a few days ago when I reread Dany's dream of Drogon hatching, HOH BOY does it sounds like what Aerys tried to do to King's Landing
intersting notion!
Yea too much wheel of time
Does anyone else think the dragon lords with swords in Dany's dream are previous Azor Ahais communicating with her. Kinda like Deku and previous one for all users
Woohoo🎉I'm here in the first hr! Thank you so much LmL for your content. I love these books but as a stay at home caregiver I don't have the time to think so deeply about it. I love how you go on the same tangents as me lol
it’s a dragon party
hey there ❤
@@dunkwm000 come here often?
Yaaay been waiting for another one of your vids. No one else compares, I’m sorry!! 🎉 🐉
Been waiting for this one. Thank you once again for the great content, David!
This is so amazing, and it totally makes sense, David, you did it again!❤
As a sidenote, the dragons always reminded me of super fierce winged flame, throwing support animals
I really want to thank you for all of your informative videos. I lost my mom to suicide 2 years ago, and the trauma of it made my memory go wonky. I don’t remember things like I used to, so it’s wonderful to be reminded of information from the books I can’t recall as easily anymore.
I love the piece you had made for this video. Ertac’ knocked it out the park, I love his work!!!❤❤
Thanks Jeffrey, glad you like it!🤜🏻🤛🏻
Good Morning. Excited for this video. Love the dragon dreams.
Might be my favorite of your videos yet
Got my Ceraxe-Ohs shirt in the mail yesterday! It’s really cute, which is an aesthetic you don’t see much with art related to fantasy. It is the only thing I’ve purchased related to ASOIAF that aren’t books or an HBO subscription. Can’t wait to show of my new dragon drip!
yeah!! I need to order mine :)
@@amapan81 ayyyeee!!! Dragon drip!!
This makes me wonder if the first Targaryen ancestor who was sacrificed to create a dragon bond was a sorcerer/seer. Could explain why Daenys and the Targaryens were warned of the Doom of Valyria and not all the other dragonlords.
Couldn't click on this fast enough. Excellent video David. Thank you.
Glimbus and Shwifty love your theories they had you in their thoughts in their latest Pictionary-theory video thingy.
Dragon dreams had Targs think they were the Lisan Al Gaib
10:35 Rhaegar chillin with a blackfyre blankie 🙂
Yes! I’ve been waiting for this one
Rhaegar's ringtone is the same one I use. It totally had me. That silver-haired slippery fox(dragon - obviously not a Florent)
Me too!
GET GLIDUS IN A LIVESTREAM
‘The sphinx is the riddle not the riddler” has always bothered me… until now
Wow I watched this all.
The dragons remember. Do you?
Oh fuck yeah. Exactly what I needed for this Sunday
I was not expecting this show to have massive lore dumps. Loving it. The showrunners are still doing some of their own thing, but you can see how much everyone involved really loves the world and stories that George created.
Right on time for some real knowledge!
31:16 Hearing you tell us to look up Carry on my Wayward Son made me cackle at the thought that you somehow managed to avoid any interaction with Supernatural's fandom influence. Good
First regular video of yours to watch in a while, feels good
Also woha, major supporting evidence it is
It would be cool to read a series about Aenar & The Doom.
dragon timeeeeeee baby
There’s probably a few on Driftmark as well.
To help with the Aenar theory I feel Aegon helping halt a potential Valyrian revival before conquering Westeros may help bridge a dragon dream gap.
There's probably a link between dragons and R'hollor, what with the whole visions and 'fire made flesh' thing. Makes me wonder how that'd play out re: the Valyrian gods - like, if your personal WMDs are connected to a *different* god entirely, how would your *actual* gods take that?
YES!!!
Let’s Hear it DLB
2(½ lol) reasons why that stuck out:
• Aerea/Balerion's trip to Valyria
½• Balerion/Viserys "bond"
• Nettles/Sheepstealer living in the mountains of the Vale; "fire witch & her dragon"
My theory is that Balerion only gives ONE DREAM & it's a Doomsday Prophecy:
• Daenys = Doom of Valyria
• Aegon I = The Long Night
• Viserys = The Dance of Dragons
~ I don't include Aerea bc Idk if she actually "bonded" with Balerion, so much as maybe she hitchhiked a ride on him & he decided "I wanna go home" & took off for Valyria & that ultimately was both of their undoing.
Viserys' dream, as outlined in HOTD:
"Our son born wearing Aegon's crown. I heard the sound of thundering hooves, splintering shields & ringing swords. I placed our son upon the Iron Throne & all the dragons roared as one."
Viserys' Dream was a warning, again "doomsday" ⚠️ He perfectly describes the Dance.
It's a gentle way of saying "that's nonsense" 😅
The "fire witch" portion of Nettles story/mystery.
You may have done the funniest commercial ive ever seen 😂. Advertisers should be lining up!
I do think the others have prophecies / future sight. the Tower of joy scene implies they are watching for Jons birth
Well, we have Aegon I to thank for that, his priority #1 was preparing Westeros for Zombies On Ice.
21:52 it's also mentioned so many times that dragons prefer volcanic hot spots - "just so happens" that Winterfell is built on a hot spring.. seems like the right place to find an egg
Reading rhaegar looks more like Viewing Viserys.
