I mean with church you're not forced to go as long as you're a good person you believe in God and your a true Christian you're pretty much set (not 100%) but as long as you're a good person and a true Christian then yeah that's pretty good as it is so yeah homers right

I love that they have consistently painted Homer as a man who loves his family and is willing to sacrifice his own happiness to ensure they would have a roof over their head and food to eat. He's not a perfect person, but he does care.
I thought that Marge’s behavior in “Homer, the Heretic” was fine because she’s always been critical of Homer, but your reasoning for disliking it is understandable.
Also, I love the fact that Homer and the rest of the Simpsons never figure out that Hank Scorpio is a supervillain. I don’t know why, but that’s just funny to me.

This is a pretty great list but I'm a little surprised that "I Married Marge" didn't even make the honorable mentions! I love that episode and I think it's a great example of Homer at his best.
Fantastic episode. But I feel that is more of a Marge and Homer episode, than a Homer centric episode. If I ever do 'best Homer and Marge moments,' I'll include that :)

My personal favourite is when Homer and Abe sell the 'love serum'.
Especially when he gets upset over Abe calling him an accident, says your not supposed to say it to the children. Only to find out that he tells Bart and Lisa all the time. Because when he does it, it's funny.
One of my faves is Homer Goes To College, so many delightful Homer moments in it- "Nerd!" "The only cure for a zany scheme is with an even zanier scheme!" "I'll hide in a bunch of coats and hope everything somehow works out."

Homer Defined
My favourite Homer episode is "one fish two fish blowfish blue fish". It was a hard-hitting episode to me as it shows how someone reacts when they realise that they are going to die. It felt so real when Homer was saying goodbye to his children. But, if course in true Simpsons style, it still had hilarity. Great video, Lydia! I loved it! 😃👍
I agree with the Homer the Heretic episode. It does feel like Marge can be a bit out of line sometimes. He's a grown adult who should be able to decide whether or not to be a part of a religion, let alone, a church. His wife shouldn't be forcing him into something or using threats on him like that.
Surprised that Marge didn't act like that when Lisa became a Buddhist. But she also acted like that on the time Bart and Homer wanted to be Catholic
@@Dzuno18Lisa converted for ideological reasons, not because she was lazy. Homer's worst traits were why he decided to not go to church. He leaves the house a mess that leads to the house fire.

I really liked this list. Great selection of episodes across the early run, it really brought back memories. A few of my own thoughts.
- Homer’s Odyssey has seen some criticism over the years for being rather dry and primitive, even for a Season 1 episode, but I have a soft spot for it. It’s The Simpsons at their most emotionally realistic, and while they found a better balance between that and laughs later on, there’s an amazing feeling I get when you strip away all the evolution and see the show at its most basic.
- I do think Marge was overreacting in Homer the Heretic. Even in 1992, I think it was a pretty mean thing to say that your spouse is turning “wicked” for skipping church. I guess my personal justification is that she knows Homer well enough, and knows he’ll eventually take his newfound agnosticism for granted, which he does.
- Thank you so much for pointing out the little nagging issues with You Only Move Twice. I find it weird when people point to stuff like the boxing and pretzel episodes as the start of the show’s unravelling, when Season 8’s first (canon) episode is about a Bond villain! Still love it all the same, but it was the test pilot of something different.
- Three Season 6 episodes? Now that’s restraint.

My favorite Homer episode (& probably my favorite episode PERIOD) is "The City Of New York Vs. Homer Simpson. The part where he forced his poor car to move despite having a boot on the tire made me laugh so hard it hurt! 🤣

The episode where Homer Simpson and Marge are trapped in a structure by a tornado is a moment that comes to my mind. It’s the one where they want to find replacement guardians in case they die.
With Homer writing a wholeheartedly sweet message on the glass.

Genuinely a sweet message I did not expect, and shows that even in the modern Era Homer is still a good man.... well as good as one can be who strangles his son and Drinks at a bar everyday 😅
Hank’s episode is my favourite. Recently rewatched it and that Italy or France joke got me. He’s so hyperactive, I love it!

I have to disagree on one point!
"Do it for her" is not only the best Homer Moment, its the best Moment the show ever had. It showed how much Homer cares for his family back in the days when he was "just" lazy. No selfish fool, without moral or remote glims of IQ.

These episodes definitely show the best of the Simpsons it’s had up’s and down yet thru out the years they’ve been able to product amazing heartfelt episode and no matter how bad it gets the Simpsons will be remembered

There are a lot of outlandish episodes in the first 8 seasons, but the James Bond parody was a backdrop. It didn’t affect the story whatsoever, and the focus remained on Homer and the family. That’s why the episode works, so I wouldn’t necessarily consider it jumping the shark

A Homer episode I really like even though it’s not that deep is Mr. Plow. I just remember watching that episode a lot as a kid and his jingle has been stuck in my head since. (I also loved using the Mr.Plow truck in Simpsons Hit and Run)

Last exit to springfield is without a doubt the best episode of the simpsons ever, but you forgot to mention about the time I took the ferry over to Shelbyville, I needed a new heel for my shoe, so I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days, so i tied an onion to my belt which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel and in those days Nickels had pictures of Bumblebees on them, give me 5 bees for a Quarter you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was that i had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn't have white onions, because of the war, the only one's you could get was the big yellow ones...

OK, wondering if anyone else cut that she referred to the gummy Venus to Milo as the candy Milo? I might be the only one, but Candy Milo is also a voice actress, I think she’s even had guest rolls in the show at times. I don’t think it was intentional, but it made me laugh

9:56 for Homer, the Heretic, it's always disturbed me that Ned Flanders was NOT at church while most of the rest of the town was in attendance. Yes, he was able to save Homer from the fire, but the question still remains why someone so dedicated to his religion was not at church at the time.
I have not watched the video yet but mine is when he gets the crayon stuck in his brain and has such a loving episode with Lisa.

One of my favorite Homer episodes is probably Last Exit to Springfield.

My dad was a big union man from the 60s to the early 2000s. He was the secretary of the union at the Philadelphia Mint. When he went back to teaching in the mid-80s is union reputation followed him. The teachers union contacted him the day he was hired and he was immediately put on the executive board. My father had a reputation for fighting for his fellow workers and standing up to Union opposition. He saved thousands of people's jobs and was an intricate part in protecting the rights of fellow union members throughout his life. It is a shame and a disgrace what has happened to unions in America! Workers rights are methodically being stripped away and Pay is being decreased by corporate monsters. A strong union can protect its members and help them prosper. Corporate America once unions to be a thing of the past, we cannot let that happen.
I guess you know how I feel about unions, LOL. Just as strongly as homer Simpson! Do it for her is one of the most touching moments in the Simpsons ever. It shows us how much homer loves his kids and will do anything for his family. Deep down he truly wants to be a good father. Hey, we all like to have a few casual drinks(and by casual I mean 9 lol) after a long day at work and we all make a couple mistakes along the way down the road of life, homer Simpson is no exception🍻

Mother Simpson is such a heartfelt episode and it’s such a sad one too to be honest I wouldn’t be surprised if they thought about making the Simpson movie about his mom or something
My favourite Homer episode is Eternal Moonshine Of The Simpson Mind. I think it’s really well made and it was really funny to watch Homer thinking his first kiss was with Apu. It’s a great episode, and the only thing I don’t like about it is that I’ve never had a super cool boat party with duffman on it.

There's also the episodes where homer's mom does with the last encounter she had was her arguing with homer and rod rod why hast thou forsaken me, I think that's what the title is. It's a modern episode and it may not be a homer episode but it does involve him a good amount in the later acts with him seeing his mom in heaven

You should definitely do an episode on how old are the people in Springfield. Especially since there are episodes with Homer and Wiggam being the same age in one flash back and wiggam being a cop while Homer is still a child
