    I like your video.
    I called you once John and you said the same thing over the phone.
    I think if I hadn’t followed the steps you enumerated I would have seeded to fast .
    Thanks bud!

    John, i use the earth way for most seed but i find the battery operated Scott wizz works great and spreads evenly at 1/2 to 1 setting for small seed like brassica

    Great video . Your seed got spread just like this on August 5th here in southern NY on my small 🌿Ranch🍀 . Just still waiting on the rain that was “supposed” to come in the form of thunder/rain showers 😞☹️ on the 6th/7th/8th

    I was wondering about the photos on your website. The photos with the massive radishes and bulbs. Can you actually grow them that big in the allotted time for northern MI ? I am just a beginner on the food plot bit. Was wondering if they were older plants you used for the photos. Thanks for the video I need all the info I can get.

      The further north you are the earlier in august you should try to plant. You can plant late July if there’s appreciable rain in the forecast. I shoot for planing first week of august, I’m about an hour south of Canada in New Hampshire. Hope this was helpful👍🏼

      Rich- I planted his brassicas a couple of years ago and overseeded like John mentioned. I also did not amend the soil... lots of tiny little seedlings that never matured. Last year I went much lighter and got fist sized- softball sized turnips and beets. The deer didn't eat them... but I have a plan for this year based on Johns advice. Less is more!

    John..on preparing the seed bed, you said till in clover (an existing patch?) and fertilize properly based on soil test. Next you pack the soil a bit. I’ve never been shown how firm a seed bed should be. Sorry…a lot to explain?

    • @northwoodswhitetailsfoodpl2663
      @northwoodswhitetailsfoodpl2663  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We
      Spread needed fertilizer on to the existing clover.
      One shallow tiller pass
      Pack
      Spread brassica
      Pack again

    After you broadcast your brassica seed what do you recommend as far as rolling the seedbed, cultipack, do nothing?

    Good afternoon. I have your brassica blend and plan to plant it in the next few weeks. I also have your red clover that I was thinking about planting with the brassicas for a spring carryover plant that I can till under in late summer. Does this combination work? If so, what would you recommend for planting rates? TIA!

    Are you adding any fertilizer to the seed mix when applying it with the broadcast spreader or are you just adding the seed and spreading on 1 1/2 setting

    Hi John I was wondering if September 3 in NY about an hour from the city would be to late to plant the WHS I already purchased from you ?? My ATV happens to be in the shop won’t be getting back until around that time I was thinking we should do the rye because of the timing of year

    • @northwoodswhitetailsfoodpl2663
      @northwoodswhitetailsfoodpl2663  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sept 3 is fine
      Rye over seed around the 23-25

      I’m in Sullivan county and planted them on august 13th. Usually August is not as hot with cooler nights in NY. I think September might be a little late but good luck and let me know how you make out. John thinks you will be ok and he would certainly know better then me!

    • @Robert-em3fv
      @Robert-em3fv ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Rcol4427 I honestly was thinking the same as you.. just hold on to the seed until next year and plant only the rye in September..i still don’t have the atv back yet I will let you know how it turns out only good thing it’s still so dry so maybe a later planting will work in my favor
