Hey John I’ve been using your screening the last two years and it’s amazing! My soil is not the greatest but my screening is a healthy dark green and at least 12 feet tall. I will by buying more in the spring. Thanks!
I bought 2 bags around Christmas time. I'm really looking forward to it. I have a field that has a main road adjacent to it but the road is about 5 feet higher than the field. I plan to test 2 different strips to see how much of the field I'll lose to ensure the field is properly walled off. It's part of a flood plain with awesome soil and doesn't stay flooded for more than a few hours only in the largest of large floods. Our native grasses and weeds regularly get to 6 to 7 feet. There a small stand of lake sedge that is also in this field. I'd be shocked if we don't end up at 12'. (NE Pa)
I tried to order a couple times but you were out of stock, I hope to get in on an early next spring. I'm subscribed with the Bell so hopefully I'll get a notification
Would you ever put out a video of exactly how you plant it? I tried planting it this year and didn’t have any success. I planted it right before a rain, on just tilled souls, about 8 feet wide in late July.
@@northwoodswhitetailsfoodpl2663 that would be appreciated. I want it to work and I just didn’t get it to in NW WI and I’m not quite sure what I did wrong.
John, I would like to use this screening on end of power line rt away to black view from road. Deer bed on property on other side of road and come across to my property to get to my food plots and ag field. At 8 ft wide will they walk through it or change there travel patterns? It would run in between heavy stand of grey dog wood on each end of screen.
I am looking to use RC big rock where my hd screen is this year. What is the best way to go about this since it will be tough to frost seed into it? Can I till it next spring and seed. Use simazine just like the hd screening instructions?
I would try the switchgrass next to more screen if you have room. We are still working on planting methods with the RC switchgrass as it grows much faster than most current switchgrass available
@@mitchvaughn5977 Will do. Im in the deep south so the whole snow crushing it down thing doesn’t apply here. I just want to plant it once and be done with it. Maybe maintain it at most. I spent over $1300 last year on Egyptian wheat seed and the drought stunted it bad. Not gonna make that mistake again. Hell I’ll plant tall weeds if I have to.
John, How do you think this will hold up in south Central Alabama; especially with the high winds that we get from strong late summer storms and sometimes HURRICANES? I ask this because I have tried some other screening products that have all done well until just before deer season starts and then the screens get blown over into a 2 to 4 foot tall tangled mess. We get winds from 50 to 80 mph.
Wow Ya One of our customers had a recorded upper 70s wind and it got beat up pretty bad. Not much will withstand that except lower growing spruce or cedars I would think. I’ve seen it take a 60 mph wind and still stand for the most part.
Just FYI, spruce don’t grow in the south and only eastern cedar will grow somewhat down south but it doesn’t make for good screen as the lower branches aren’t there. Not everything that works up north works down south. Seems to be a repeating theme with most deer related videos out there.
Eastern red cedar grows pretty well in south central ga . Largest one in the country is there in hometown area .. 😊. Cane corn cedar try them all I say

we should be fully stocked late January

Early next year we will do a screen

Dumb question, will the deer walk through this to get into a food plot or will they walk around the edges?
Sold me..I'll be calling.
What was the pH in that sand?
It’s an annual. How do you take care of it in the spring? Mow? Disk?
Mow
Then till or disc
@@northwoodswhitetailsfoodpl2663 thank you
.is the seed production on this sorghum good..besides being a screen planting ,hows it for a wildlife food source ?
No or a good food source
That would be Milo or game sorghum
How will this do in South Carolina? Zone 8a? I need something to screen a power line. How will it handle whatever chemical they typically spray?
It will grow fine there.
It will not tolerate round up or clethodim.
Is your Food plot screen a annual?
Yes
I wqanna see more footage of this stuff
col
We will be doing a lot more in the in future
Amazing.
The product being is an annual sorghum, how many seasons can it be planted in the same place without diminished results?
3 at the most
How many hours of direct sunlight does this need? I have an area that really needs screening but gets an estimated 6 to 8 hours.
8 would be close
John,
As this screening is an annual, do you disc the stocks into the ground the following year?
Yes
Mow a few times with a brush hog and then till once
My screen in northern lower mi is looking amazing!! I'm wondering if it can be planted in the same spot every year or if I should rotate crops?
We try to rotate every year.
But 3 years in the same spot at the most is ok

You can cut a path through it
Angle it so it you can see through it from the road.
Probably your best option

Looks like January
Thanks

how does this grow in limited sunlight, like partial wooded areas?
It needs almost full sun
@@northwoodswhitetailsfoodpl2663 I appreciate the reply. Even if it grew only 4 feet with partial sunlight, I'd be willing to give it a go.
What would you recommend for a concealment plant in shaded areas like hidey hole food plots
Strong work
You say triple 19 and urea at planting? Or should I just fallow the soil test
Our recommendation
The soil test is usually to low on recommendations
Why do you not say what is is?
It’s a variety of sorghum
Is this an annual or perennial?
Annual
I’m looking for some kind of perennial like giant miscanthus. I’d go broke planting this every year. I got way too much screening needs.
When you find a perennial like this I'd be interested for sure.

Closer to 6.5 to 7
But we have planted in 5.9
