Hey Everyone! This video is now open for business! I hope you enjoy it and please let me know the issues you're facing with job interviewing or anything related to your overall job search. I'm here to help you!
Hi Andrew, it was great to see your video n trick to impress interviewer. I have 10.5 yr of work exp into business analysis and preparing for the interview. But not confident enough. Could you help me to appear in the interview effectively
Hi Andrew, I am able to make eye contact, respond to all kind of questions but the only problem I face is - I sometimes go blank while speaking. I go out of points to describe my answer. Could you please suggest ?
Something to consider: The fact that most people trip over this question (revealing that they have no idea how to meet the needs of the employer) is exactly why it's a great one to ask. It forces the applicant to use their emotional and social intelligence to construct an answer that matches the situation. Asking for guidance on 'tell me about yourself' is a great way to indicate that when confronted with a problem, instead of seeing a way through, you throw your hands up and call for help (ie: you're not suited for management). If you're hiring management, doctors, professors, etc. you don't want to give very specific questions with obvious "right" answers. The entire point of the interview process is to see if someone will flounder under a little pressure and if they have good verbal skills. You're looking for someone who's capable of using critical reasoning and finding solutions. So go ahead and toss them in the deep end- the ones who canoe their way out will be best suited to the job.
I got hired!! Thank you for all of your guidance! I was told that I was so impressive and professionally polished that they wanted me to start immediately! My new dream career is fully remote and has a huge impact on the community! I’m so happy!
Tell me about yourself. "My background is lengthy and diverse, is there a particular part of my background that you'd like to discuss so that you could make a determination about whether or not I am a good fit for your company?" (This goes out to those who missed this vital part). You're welcome!
You know what? Graduate schools should start offering a Master's Program in Interviewing. My God. There is SO MUCH ground covered in this topic. My head is spinning.
What needs to happen is that people interviewing should be trained to look for 1 CV layout, read it and not just dump it in the bin after 2 seconds, ask specific questions, don't play games, learn some manners (no ghosting, actual feedback, etc.). Then and only then can schools/universities start teaching how to get past the bullshit ATS and then the bullshit mind games interview.
Luke Guest ...that part!! Well said @ Luke Guest. If you selected the candidate for interview, they obviously possess the skills and experience you’re seeking. Why in THEE HELL has interviewing turned into such a psychological challenge?🤷🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️
Once, I had an interviewer say to me, "What is one special trait you have that you feel would bring value to this company?" I said, "I'll do something that most people won't do. I'll show up everyday." He leaned forward, pointed right at me and said, "That's a BIG one. How soon can you start?"
At my current job, actually coming to work is almost as valuable as a skill set. There are so many of the workers who take time off, they rarely have a full crew on a given day. The attendance policy is quite complicated so that taking time off can be quite a burden because the workers have found ways to not be at work.
My brother always answered this type of question the same way: ' I'm the best candidate you are going to see and you'd be foolish to allow me to work for your competitors.' Always worked!
In my experience, this is usually the first real question, and is there just to get you talking. I find it useful to have a short 10-second spiel you can reel off before tackling this, just to settle the initial nerves. Nothing too deep, just some basics before firing off the probing question. This also gets around the "don't question a question" hang-up that some people have.
The question is an opportunity to match your background with the JD, just tell a story of how everything you have done in your career has been preparing you for this role. Show them you are an exact fit. Doesn't even matter if the story entirely true.
"Okay Mr. Lazy Interview Man" 😂😂 hilarious and so true on interviews I've been on. Watching your videos make the process seem so easy. I get so extremely nervous in interviews. I'm going to use your tips on my next one! Thanks for information!
I was a little nervous about asking that clarifying question, but it proved to be quite effective. The recruiters really liked how I connected my answer to the job that I had applied for. Also, phrasing your answer this way eliminates the next question “why this role ?”. Thanks a lot for these awesome tips!!
Dear lord i hope i remember all of this when i get a job interview. I see I’m going to binge watch your videos and taking notes!😭 you’re honestly a life saver!!!
The first time I got this question I told the poor guy my entire life story starting from high school. I could see it in his eyes as I talk for 10 minutes. I even told him how I learned to make pizza dough from scratch.
OldiesbutGoldies4578 they are in hell .really where are we going thats what im wonder alot people become zombies for money and shallow .companies filled with liars and cheaters .
OldiesbutGoldies4578 Honestly that’s why that question is such a good one. It opens conversation so you can find out who you are really hiring. I disagree with this video that it’s a bad question. Having the skills necessary is important but there’s a lot more than that I want to know before I hire a person.
To me whenever they ask this question, i take this as my opportunity to sell myself to the employer, show them how different I am to other candidates and what I can bring to the table. To sum this its my moment to bullshit.
Wow! I tried and it worked. I was very confident because I was prepared. After 3 rounds of interviews, I got the job. I followed many of your videos and I have been studying your advice for months. Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge
I always answer all questions as it relates to the context of the situation. In job interviews, I answer as it relates to the job description and the organization’s needs.
This was the only question breaking me into different tiny pieces in front of the interviewers, I used to hate this question. Seems you're the only Pro on earth who matches my wavelength. Very much Thankful 💐💐🌼🌺🌻
I answered this one time with. "Haha, wow, that's a broad question! Well lets see. My kids have a terrible habit of eating and I want to work to pay for them to not starve to death."
Mr. LaCivita... Once again excellent, transparent, logical responses! You won't believe this; just yesterday I got an invitation for an interview using what you said about 'being a strong candidate for any other position in your organization'. It worked! I will let you know the results as soon as they let me know. You are a GENIUS!!!!!!!
Tell them who you are in a way that is relevant to the job. Be a person they want to work with. Giving them more work by asking them a question is not good. Do the work for them. Prepare.
Asking one or two questions requesting clarification is perfectly rasonable in an interview. I have found that hiring managers and interviewers want to get to the point and they don't like assumptions. However, asking for clarification on more than two questions probably means you aren't qualified for the job, you didn't prepare, or you're not paying close enough attention to the questions being asked. What sucks is that people with a short short-term memory may have difficulty remembering a question, especially if it is complex or has several parts to it.
Thank you so much Andrew! Job search, cover letters, resumes , and interviews ; in other words, all of the career building skills, I have always lacked! I've aced myself right out of career opportunities that I may have clinched, simply because I lack the skills to do so! Thank you! I uploaded my four sentence cover letter yesterday ; today is step two; my resume!
I watched this video yesterday to prep for my first ever interview that same yesterday. The first thing they asked me was to tell them about myself and as you taught me I asked them what they wanted to know... To cut story short. It's a paid internship position at a big oil company my brothers friend worked at and he just contacted my brother who then contacted, he said I didn't do well that I didn't sound prepared, that I was asked to tell them about myself and I was asking what they wanted to know. My brother has great experience with this having worked as a banker then explained that I was meant to sell my self at that point before I get to ask what I want... I don't know I feel pained because I had plans that $$ could've helped me with, I didn't know what to do other than to come leave my review here as I would have left praise here if it had helped... Coincidentally my phone broke that same yesterday, all my body hurts I tell you
This was your first every interview. Know that interviewing is hard and complicated. And it takes time to prepare yourself, your stories and your engagement with the interviewer(s). You'll get there, keep at it!
Love your videos! I go for my 2nd interview and the job wasn't posted! I sent it to a government website however they contract with the agency. Your video on preparing for an interview really helped me get thru the 1st interview now it's the hiring managers I have to interview with next!
Its true there is a lot of Mr/Mrs. Lazy Interviewer they went autopilot and just do it by the book. not creative, no new approach, no improvement what so ever.
Andrew, I've been watching your videos, many of them...and couldn't resist throwing in a comment that you are God Sent ! For candidates preparing for interviews, you bring in perspectives from "the other side". Invaluable stuff - Cheers from Chicago !
.....So True~! We wake up and learn, just because you are a successful "Manager" in your field, this does mean that you have a clue as to how to successfully interview candidates. Very very few have this "Talent"~!
Thank you so much! I've been watching your videos for 2days now! I've only ever had factory, food and retail jobs where all they really care about is your availability. But now that I'm trying to get into bigger and better things to be established, I've lacked confidence during most interviews. I had a lengthy resume, and got many interviews with it but never land the job. I've had a hard representing myself. I now have an interview with a Real Estate transaction company and I plan on WALKING IN THEIR WITH FULL CONFIDENCE OF MY ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE!
@@andylacivita I just had the interview, which they said there be a second part. The weirdest thing is, this is a private owned company that doesn't care about fancy resumes! The recruiter liked more the fact that I worked for Dunkin and Walmart than even studying for Real Estate License! I was shocked! She said that this is a highly customer service role and most of my background is in that. I felt out of place in that moment because here I am sounding more professional and using your tactics and she didn't care about certificates or nothing like that. But I had confidence in my qualities and background! She asked how much I want in pay from $17 to $21 an hour. I used your method of asking them for their offer and we'll negotiate it, and she said, " when you talk to the manager in the 2nd interview you can give them a rate." 😮 Is it a good sign when they speak in future tenses??? I'm still very nervous....a part of me felt like I spoke too much.....It's already over and I'm still anxious...... This makes me more nervous than courting/dating! I don't know how to feel...
I like your video. You are the first one who said that asking that kind of question is lazy and I have always hated this kind of question because it doesn't have any focal point. You made a lot of valid points about how to handle this lazy question. Thanks. I wish I had seen this before I had that interview with that lazy principal.
I am learning so much from your videos. How about the question asked by recruiters, what motivates you? Why should we hire you? Tell a time you had a conflict with a co-worker? Thanks
Well done! Thank you , so valuable!! ...this question has tripped me up and it is so disheartening when I could actually see one of the interviewers looking uninterested in the answer , but because I'd already made the commitment, I had to finish the statement
OMG I just got a call today for a job interview and instead of preparing after I received the call I kept watching my movie lol and now its like 0057hrs and I found this channel 👌 btw so very helpful I think this definitely a back pocket safe keeping. A little nervous only because I need to prepare 😱🤯😅😊 lol I'll give my best and prepare as much as I can 🤠 this channel is really handy though for future opportunities 😊👍
Yehr it's really insightful and helpful I think I did ok in the interview it was difficult to keep track of how to answer the question as I didn't have much time to prepare. But I did get ask some challenging questions Maybe you could help answer or if you already have I could look it up. The question was around cultural diversity how can I show my contribution to a culturally divers work place honestly I was like ah What!!? 😊 Trying not too give my life story. I feel a little like 🤦 anyway I appreciate your channel 😊👍
I got the new job thanks to your advice! They found me suitable for the position that they are looking for, exactly as what you have coached in your video! I'm so excited and happy! Thank you so much!!!
I can’t get passed the 1st interview with recruiter because I’m so nervous and just beat down from applying to so many jobs and not hearing back. I’ve lost a part of myself that was energetic.
Hey, interview burn-out is real, and as much as you need to be getting tips to applying/interviewing, you need to also apply tips for self-care during this process. I'm in a program now where many of my colleagues are in various stages in the process, but many of them who've already completed the program share strategies they have to keep perspective, stay organized, and re-fuel themselves. Godspeed
Andrew, thank you for for all the help you have given me with that question, tell me about yourself. I've been to 4 interviews and I've always jumped into telling them how fabulous I am. You have given me a great insight. I especially appreciate the information and advice you have provided. Your assistance has been invaluable to me during this process. Again, thank you so much. Best Regards,
At the beginning of the video, I was skeptical... later on I am wondering if you are an alien from another more advanced civilization.. My God you are good man!
Absolutely right. Especially in an interview for a sales/business development position. Sales managers and recruiters looking for good sales talent appreciate this because the more questions you ask, the more they can visualize you asking for the business in the sales role. It also demonstrates control and the ability to qualify clarify and probe. All required traits of a good sales candidate.
This is a question I always used to kinda trip over in phone and in person interviews, and it always feels awkward having to come back from sort of a botched first question. My latest tactic to this one (which I guess worked because I got my current job this way) is just to joke about it, something like "Well sir, that's such a loaded question and maybe one day I'll have a really good quick answer!" followed up by something. (usually I just end up describing myself as an adaptable jack of all trades, which I feel is increasingly true and a good selling point for most jobs). Which may not be super professional but IMHO, it's 100x better and shows more confidence than just awkwardly babbling off random details about yourself that may or may not be worthwhile. Great tip though! I will definitely be making use of this from now on.
You're great Andrew! I've started watching your videos while I was searching for my first job opportunity. Now I'm a recruiter and I'm still learning from you. Thanks you!
Thank you, Andrew LaCivita for your great help, since in this video not only does it pick up with my last interview but also it gives me the confidence I need through my application process as well as for the day of the interview.
Oh yes!!! I will 100% if I ever go for an interview again say to the baord "ok Mr. Lazy interviewer" and that's not a joke, I will 100% say it. Amazing. I'm Loving it.
nice technique sir, I always having trouble to answer this stupid question. sometimes it makes me think thay they only call you to interview without a deep read into your resume and your skill
Such an open question particularly at the begining of an interview depends upon what role your being interviewed for, what qualities are being sought and in what type of organisation. Could be an exceptionally astute question by Mr lazy Interview Man too. Such a wide open question allows an insight into who you are, how and why you respond in the way you choose. For example any job that isn't loading total value on corporatism process and algorithm.
These are Awesome tips! Thank you!! Since I don't have any experience in dental field, I am gonna dive right into my 22 plus years of customer service that is beneficial to just about every job market out there. Along with my determination to make this career change and express my strong desire to learn all that is required to know to be successful within that field. I never knew you didn't need experience or education in being a dental assistant and that some dental offices are willing to train you. Great tip I got from my the hygentist and my dentist on my last appt and since I am put on waiting list for a certification program, I applied to about 20 dental offices and I was invited to an interview this coming Saturday! I am Super excited!
I got this as an opener not long ago. It’s such a stupid, broad question. I remember letting them know that I thought their question sucked. Unsurprisingly I didn’t get the job and I was very okay with that. The feedback I got afterwards was basically: qualified but perhaps our cultures were different lol
I like how you explain the reasons behind such or such HR person's behaviour/question and your eleborations on what they ACTUALLY won't of you when they ask such or such question. :) I can see that you analyzed the actual reason behind question/behavior of the interview. And I like how you give them WHAT THEY actually looking for, when they were not able.to express it themselves.
Is there any particular part of my background you´d like me to discuss so that you can make a determination about whether or not I am a good fit for the positions you are offering I just wrote that down so I can write it down in a document and say so in my calls
Just giving my own opinion, Asking question on an opening statement can put off some interviewers and secondly never assume what the job description is. Always prepare before you go in.
Thank you so much. I am going to use this information for my next interview. I put a lot of effort into knowing my craft, and I now realize that I need to also put a lot of effort into learning how to articulating why I will a valuable team member. Videos like this one are helping me improve.

Hi Richard, I watched your video interview tips. I applied it during my interview. It is really a big help. I got hired.
Mr. Lazy Interview man lmaooo
LOLOL. That's what I actually think of people who ask this. :)
Haha!
😂😂
hahaha!
@@andylacivita Yup, definitely "ask a real question."
You're so welcome! Check out my Job Interview Tips Playlist too. You've got this!
I used your method of asking them for their offer and we'll negotiate it, and she said, " when you talk to the manager in the 2nd interview you can give them a rate." 😮
Is it a good sign when they speak in future tenses???
I'm still very nervous....a part of me felt like I spoke too much.....It's already over and I'm still anxious......
This makes me more nervous than courting/dating! I don't know how to feel...
I like your video. You are the first one who said that asking that kind of question is lazy and I have always hated this kind of question because it doesn't have any focal point. You made a lot of valid points about how to handle this lazy question. Thanks. I wish I had seen this before I had that interview with that lazy principal.
You're welcome and I'm at least glad you found me!!
You could pass judgment on the interviewer, but the bottom line is they have something you want. :)
I am learning so much from your videos. How about the question asked by recruiters, what motivates you?
Why should we hire you?
Tell a time you had a conflict with a co-worker? Thanks
Wonderful! Glad you're enjoying my videos. 😊
Well done! Thank you , so valuable!! ...this question has tripped me up and it is so disheartening when I could actually see one of the interviewers looking uninterested in the answer , but because I'd already made the commitment, I had to finish the statement
Glad you liked it!!
Glad you like it Sadie!!
Godspeed
Thank You. What i really need with this interviews coming to me. That was a confident answer and mind opener.
Great to hear Ned and good luck!
I wish i had seen this video before i went to an interview years ago. Thanks for point the "lazy" interview question out, its ring a bell.
LOL. Carina, great to have you here and you're welcome!
Your channel has helped me alot. Thanks Andrew!
Andy, you always make the very intimidating look less so. Thanks
You're so welcome!
Andrew, thank you for for all the help you have given me with that question, tell me about yourself. I've been to 4 interviews and I've always jumped into telling them how fabulous
I am. You have given me a great insight.
I especially appreciate the information and advice you have provided. Your assistance has been invaluable to me during this process.
Again, thank you so much.
Best Regards,
David, you're so welcome!
At the beginning of the video, I was skeptical... later on I am wondering if you are an alien from another more advanced civilization.. My God you are good man!
Thanks Efren. That brought a smile to my face!!
Glad you liked it Mike!
don't say "or not"!!! you are the fit!
This just gave me the insight I spent 12 pain staking hours looking for 6 hours after I needed it😍🤯😍
Glad you found me!!!
Hi Andy, hope you're doing great! Thanks for sharing this video.
You’re welcome!!
Thank you for being so clear and concise.
Thanks you!
Love to hear it!!
Thank you, Andrew LaCivita for your great help, since in this video not only does it pick up with my last interview but also it gives me the confidence I need through my application process as well as for the day of the interview.
Awesome to hear!!!
Oh yes!!! I will 100% if I ever go for an interview again say to the baord "ok Mr. Lazy interviewer" and that's not a joke, I will 100% say it. Amazing. I'm Loving it.
😂
Easy, but effective, thanks Andy! 👏
nice technique sir, I always having trouble to answer this stupid question. sometimes it makes me think thay they only call you to interview without a deep read into your resume and your skill
Glad you liked it!
My successful interviews were those once where I was asked about previous job's history and specific skills
Awesome advise. Thank you so much for your advise, and for the free give-aways.
You’re welcome!!
Brilliant ideas and roadmap, Lá Civita. Thank you !
Thank you very much Cesar!
Your tips are outstanding and the way you communicate is very thorough and clear. Thank you.
Glad you liked them and thanks for the compliment!
I like that answer I just got back from an interview and I have experience
Also very nice and happy I like work with people answers thankyou 2 thumbs up for your videos websites give a high five so much
I've only been asked this question twice in an interview. Very rare.
Finally found you mate! I need this!
So glad you found me too!! 👊👊👊
I laughed several times during this video and these are great tips! I feel a bit more at ease for my interview tomorrow :)
You got this!
Awesome video! Thank you Andy!
My pleasure!
this is a pure gold material! thank you so much.
You're welcome Vincent!
Andy, you're a legend!
Maybe overstating it a bit Guilherme, but I'll take it my friend!!
I never thought about printing out the job description and bringing it to the interview...👍🏽
I got this as an opener not long ago. It’s such a stupid, broad question. I remember letting them know that I thought their question sucked. Unsurprisingly I didn’t get the job and I was very okay with that. The feedback I got afterwards was basically: qualified but perhaps our cultures were different lol
Hi Andrew, thank you for the tips
You’re welcome Emma!
This!👌 Thank you for this video! I liked and subscribed!
This question always seems to be awkward to respond. Thanks for the suggested tip.
You’re so welcome.
Is there any particular part of my background you´d like me to discuss so that you can make a determination about whether or not I am a good fit for the positions you are offering
I just wrote that down so I can write it down in a document and say so in my calls
Wonderful, thank you so much.
You're very welcome!
Hey Andrew, seems like the algorithms went your way this time.....kudos and l'm subscribed okay.
Yay Sarah!!
That's why you talk about their needs by reading the job description and what the business does.
Go get em!!!
Really easy way that you demystified that damn question 💡
Glad you liked it!!!
Just giving my own opinion, Asking question on an opening statement can put off some interviewers and secondly never assume what the job description is. Always prepare before you go in.
Definitely going to share this. Awesome video.
Glad you liked it!
Merci beaucoup pour vos émissions et mes meilleures salutations de la Suisse.
Vous êtes les bienvenus pour les émissions et les meilleurs voeux des États-Unis! :-) I hope I got that right!
This is so simple but pure gold!
Thank you so much. I am going to use this information for my next interview. I put a lot of effort into knowing my craft, and I now realize that I need to also put a lot of effort into learning how to articulating why I will a valuable team member. Videos like this one are helping me improve.
Lins, love to hear it!!!
