      Gotta love those kinds of people that try to say you can't do one thing but turn around and expect you to "help them/get involved" with the thing they told you not to do or has nothing to do with you in the beginning.
      Reminds me something 1 of my older sisters tried to do multiple times many years ago. She had a bad habit of not being able keep a place of her own or a man. So she always ended up moved back into my parent's house. Well her along with her children would have a overload sink full of dishes almost every meal. Well for her to get out of dish washing all the time she tried to pull a fast one saying stuff like "y'all use the dishes too so let's all take turns washing them". It sounded like a good idea At first untill she would pretty much only wash 1 of the loads every now an then or get her children to half way do it at their young age. So it fell on myself or my parents to do the dishes a majority of the time. So what I started doing is every time I would use anything like a dish, pan, spoon, etc I would wash it immediately after using it and I would do the same for the dishes my parents used. So the next time my sister and her children would fill up the sink with their dishes and say "oh it's your turn" I'd point at my parent's and my clean dishes in the drainer and say "nope all those dirty dishes in the sink belong to your children and you so you wash them".
      It was a nightmare to have to wash a pile of dishes just before cooking a meal to clear out space an make room and get clean pots and pans just to cook the meal you're about to cook.

    I worked for a company whose office was in a building partially taking half the first floor. The rest of the building had various offices with the usual daytime hours. The exception was our office which provided telephonic nursing assistance and occupied the entire 4th floor. The bank had a security officer, but since it was their building, they also supplied security for the entire building. Security had an agreement to provide escort to our vehicles as we left the building at 11pm. Most of the other nurses parked closer to the building but I always parked in the back half of the lot as I wanted the exercise. The first 5 rows weren’t marked for visitors, but we were advised to park further back until 5pm, although other nurses ignored that. The other staff kept asking me to park closer as we all to leave the lot at the same time. The guard usually escorted me to my car and I always conversed with him and he shared his goals and was also attending college. He got a promotion as an inside bank security and told me when his last day was and I wished him well. The first day that I knew he was no longer on duty, I parked closer to the building as the other staff requested. I was in the 5th row of a nearly empty lot as it was a city holiday and most regular office buildings had people either off or working a half day. I got to my bright red car and saw a large sticker obstructing my driver’s view that is similar to the type the city uses that can’t be peeled off. The guard had stood right outside the doors and I turned around and asked what it was for and he said it was parked to close to the building but had ignored all the other staff. His car was closer than mine and took up four spots. I pointed out the discrepancy and he smugly told me it was policy. He then told me that I had been there at noon, which was a lie and all the other staff knew it. I raised my voice and asked how I was supposed to drive the vehicle home and his response was to return to the locked building and disappeared. We didn’t have building keys. The other nurses were trying to find things in their vehicle to remove the sticker as well as bottles of water. It took us 45 minutes to remove enough that I could see to drive. I was mad and vocal about the fact that his job is to escort us but left us locked outside without his presence. Everyone knew me as easygoing and were surprised at my outburst. I was one of the team leaders who had been there a year and another team leader who had been there 8 years was working that night. I was off the next day, a Saturday, but worked Sunday. Word had gotten around the incident and I just shrugged. I parked in the back of the lot again ignoring the guard who was now at least 500 yards away from my car. My usual 3pm Monday shift and one the managers came and asked me about what happened. Apparently someone had brought it up and they all said the same thing as what I recounted. The CEO got involved since the incident had put the staff at risk as the lot was surrounded by woods and not visible to the streets and periodically the city police would sometimes take their breaks in our parking lot as there were previous incidents and thefts. The conclusion was the security guard was fired after the management also saw him take up 4 parking spots in the 3rd row to prevent his car from getting hit. He worked a 12 hour shift so had parked there from 12 noon. The new security guard relayed the whole story from that department as well as the other employees. Many people commented that they realized that I wasn’t a pushover when the guard tried to intimidate me. I told them that I had dealt with more powerful people than him and knew how to stand my ground and not be intimidated by a power hungry unarmed guard.

      @@sarowie It’s not “outsmarting” the system. 40,000$ in fines is 40,000$ in fines. Had OP sent a group of fines each time they reached 10,000$, there’s no legal reason the judge would’ve combined them. You’re right; it’s ultimately to the judge’s discretion which means it may or may not have worked.
      If she broke the law, got 10,000$ in fines she was aware of then chose to continue to break that same law for _thousands_ more dollars, what judge in their right mind would let her get away with that.

    Several years ago during our first winter at a new apartment (there were only 2 apartments in the building) we had a pretty bad snowstorm (about 2 feet in under 24 hours). The morning after it stopped snowing I briefly stepped outside to assess the situation. Just as I opened my apartment door the doorbell rang. It was some guys asking if we wanted them to shovel the stairs . The neighbor was 1) shocked that I willing to go out in the snow 2) asked if I wanted to split the cost of the shoveling. I said no because it is the landlord's responsibility but she paid them anyway. No where in my lease did it say it was my responsibility. A few weeks later we get another 2 feet snowstorm and now since the neighbor took care of it last time the landlord tries to get out of shoveling. I put up a stink and he finally does it. Another week and another blizzard (I think we got about 8 feet of snow in a month that year) and again the landlord tries to get out of shoveling. So I tell him that it's my daughter's bday and her elderly disabled grandmother is coming over for her bday , which was true but I played up the disabled part, and I didn't want her slipping and falling the steps. After that I had no problems getting him to clear the steps. He lived next door and I could see he did a wonderful job clearing and salting his steps. He did a passable job on my side. The neighbor is a whole other story. She received so many packages and would never answer her door even though I knew she was home. One time she received so many packages it completely blocked her door and mine. I knew she was home, rang her bell multiple times, but she would not come to the door. I graciously signed for all the packages and helped the delivery guys stack them. I texted the landlord that her packages where blocking her door, my door, and the front door. Within 5 minutes I heard her door open. From that point forward I refused to accept her packages.

It was still the wrong thing to do to park there, but the boss could have been way more polite in explaining that regardless of if the spot is needed, the car can't be parked there, and allowed OP to move it as a one-time thing, and then require ticketing if they do it again. OP's logic is wrong, as handicapped regulations are always enforceable, but if the car was not immediately impeding someone from parking who needed it, the Karen definitely could have handled it in a more constructive way. OP is in college, so even though this should be obvious to most adults that handicapped spots are always enforceable, I can see how OP reached the conclusion they did that it would be ok just once when there is no way OP could inconvenience a person in need of that spot without being aware beforehand and able to move before the issue came up. I'm not defending OP because it is still wrong, but I think the boss could have and should have handled it much differently. Then she wouldn't have gotten $40k in tickets 😂

It does not make the violator's actions any more acceptable nor should they be allowed to get away with not paying valid amounts due for infractions. Wait, the people ignored BN even though she was inviting herself to their house for dinners?

    • @Kelaiah01

      My guess is that BN started inviting herself over when they first moved in, but after a while they did what they could to avoid her and ignore her.

    I have no sympathy for someone who illegally parks in a handicapped space and then tries to act like a victim when they get caught. The ticket should have been more than $70.

      @superdave8248 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Agreed. Your boss's response will be well, you should have planned accordingly and got to work earlier. Especially when the OP admits to knowing there was a big employee event going on and parking would be difficult. No excuse.

      Normally I would agree, HOWEVER, the OP did say the event was over, no more guests were expected, AND it was night shift. Not that handicapped people can't go out in the middle of the night...but to a school campus? And if you still think "yes" why do non-handicapped people get harrassed for being out late at night or early AM hours? I get insomnia and go for walks.....NO ONE is out overnight. And you are not seen as normal if you do. Just sayin

    Let’s just be clear that the last op parked in a handicap parking space which is illegal at least where I come from. So he was wrong. Especially since there was other parking options. Even parking in guest parking would’ve been a better option even tho that was a violation as well. But I guess that lady never heard about the saying about glass houses and throwing stones

    • @tkps
      @tkps 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah. They're strict about it where I come from too. Recently saw an interesting thing out shopping. Though it's not their job to worry about parking infringements, they have the right. The police went through all the shopping centres, high streets etc and booked every one in a disabled spot without a sticker. I saw at least 2 get done as I went into the shops. I need one so it pisses me off when there's so few and you can't get one. Then you see a 19 year old swan out with his mates and get straight into a car in a disabled spot. Not the only ones, there's older 'entitleds' too. Then the worst ones, parking across 3.

      Illegal, yes, but OP knew that no one was expected that evening and it seemed to me that he was going to move his car when the overflow vehicles had left for the day. Not like it was at a mall or a restaurant, either. I definitely have strong feelings about parking in a spot designated for disabled people, but seems like OP had good intentions.

    Moral of the story: tell someone to enforce the law while you've been breaking the law

    I don’t know about that last one. As I too, used to work with parking enforcement for a city. While there isn’t a statute of limitations on parking violations, all tickets must be served within 6 months of the violation. Any ticket exceeding that is null and void.

    He should have gone back in and made the issuing of the tickets so the they did not exceed $10,000 and that way she would have to pay four or five fines totaling almost $10,000

    • @sarowie
      @sarowie 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      no, she would not have. She would have opended one court case with the 5 fines and the judge would have applied the limit to the court case.

    In Germany it's the LANDLORD'S duty to pay for plowing snow ... because it's HIS property and the tenants just pay rent.

      the landlord can shift the responsibility of snow plowing to the tenants.
