That's (I'm pretty sure) a Six-Pac 6SLQ... It looks like one I was after last year in Crestline. Very cool! The one I ended up with is a 1972 model ...7... For 7ft bed I guess!? Finding any information on these older small truck campers is like trying to find a single needle, in a whole farm of haystacks. Bless you for saving instead of junking one.
That’s great to know! I’ve been wondering for a long time the model number because the tag is too worn to read. Thank you for sharing! These older campers are very hard to find, congrats on finding yours
Good luck with the remodel! Keep me posted on your progress, I might need some ideas too haha. I’m really struggling to figure out how I permanently want my layout. The kitchen area has been klunky to cook in.
I’ve seen a lot of high dollar setups that aren’t even close to as awesome as yours! Simple, it works, and you did it on the cheap…which allows for more trips! Phenomenal. I’m originally from SB, moved up by SLO, but now in Montana & hoping to get my rig going this year. Maybe I’ll see you & the YotaHome on the road! 🤙🏼
Thank you! I’ve been steadily working on it slowly but surely. Will have to do another update video soon. I was lucky enough to drive up to Montana a few months back. Spent a few days in Glacier. Really tempted to move there myself. Good luck with your rig!
I like the simplicity of your camper. Mine is a 2012 Travel Lite 690FD camper, designed specifically for mid size trucks. Originally I put it on my 2008 Tacoma Regular Cab 4x4, used it for 10 years then gave the truck to my daughter when she bought her place in the country. Now the camper sits on my 2022 Tacoma Sport 4x4 Access Cab. Both trucks are manual transmission models, great to drive. I did put Hellwig Sway bars front and rear as well as the Hellwig helper spring in the rear as mine is more top heavy. Love your videos.
I spent some time and googled your camper. What a fantastic little camper! I had no idea! I saw a pic of it on a 1st gen 4x4 taco and it looks so sweet!I I’ve never ever seen your camper here in so cal. If I saw you on the road I’d think to myself “he knows” haha. Amazing choice of trucks and what a really cool little camper!
We called those camperettes when I was a kid in the late ‘60s & early ‘70s. If you had a pickup back in those, you had one. It’s a shame no one builds anything like that today. It’s all anyone really needs. But I’m sure it’s not “overland” enough. Nor was it $40k. So it’s not cool.
Oh, wow, I’m definitely gonna spend some time googling camperettes. I’m very interested to learn more about them. Maybe it will inspire my build! Thank you for your comment
100% true, i have a 1991 toyota pickup that i built a camper on, its a manual, and i love this truck because of its reliability , its compactness amd gets over 23 mpg on highway if your gentle on it.Good video
Such a great setup! Thanks for sharing. I hope to find something similar eventually. I'm trying to make my 2013 Taco last forever. I camp in the back with a topper, tight squeeze but ok for now.
Thank you! Keep up on schedules maintenance and it’ll run forever! Good luck on your search, maybe check out the capri cowboy camper, they are pretty small and more easy to find.
@crjmoto Yessss! That’s awesome! Congrats! Rebuilding can seem overwhelming at times but it’s soo worth it in the end! Knowing you have a mold free camper is priceless. Plus you’ll be able to fix anything that may break in the future because you’ll gain a clear understanding of how it was built. Keep me updated on your build. My insta is toyotasixpac
i watched hundreds of camper videos. Getting ready to build mine for National Parks adventures. I finally found the style I am building. I am 6 foot 5 but I have an eight foot bed truck. Thank you for making my day. What powers the oven?
I have a hose that runs down and out the wing of the camper between the wheel wells. I store little propane bottles there but I’m about to mount a tank to the outside of the camper. (In my Malibu truck camping video you can see it better) That’s awesome your building a camper! Good luck and keep me updated!
Awesome job! Thorough tour & interesting insights too. I love the opaque glass on those cabinet doors. What type of glass is it? How would you describe it & where did you find it?
Thank you! The glass doors came with the camper they are a green color and have many bumps and grooves in the glass. They were pretty much the only thing I kept from the original camper.
I think you would rather have power mirriors especially for 4x4, this is a great truck. I have a 1991 ex cab, this trucks older brother ;) something cool I did was I got rid of the primitive fuel injection and went with a carburetor for a simple and reliable 4x4 truck.
Very smart move with the carb. I often get comments about ppls rigs and I wish I could see them! I dig the early 90’s body style. Sounds like a great truck!
Sweet setup. I had to go back to find this breakdown of the camper after first seeing some of your more recent segments. I'm curious if you weighed the camper in it's most recent iteration? It looks well built and solid. With all that wood is it heavy? How many lbs does it weigh? This is completely on the other end of the spectrum and expensive, but have you heard about or seen the all aluminum "Moonlander" camper shells? They don't look as cool and retro as yours. But they're so lightweight yet strong looking and have no build materials susceptible to water damage and rot. Your setup is perfect in so many ways. Thankyou for sharing. Just subscribed. Happy and safe travels Sir.
I will check out the moonlander. I’m not sure how much my camper weighs but it’s on my to do list. I’m super curious. As far as my build it was very cheap. The hardest part was being patient enough to find one. I love that my camper has the jacks and can be taken on and off with ease. Also bc of its fully built enclosed bed box no dust or sand has gotten in (yet) and it’s been pretty comfortable in 100 degree heat bc of all the insulation. thank you for you message and subscribing!
@@YoterHome Nice looking toya. I had exact same truck in red. Never let me down. Miss it alot. Upgrade to full size. Platinum F150 with all the bells and whistles.
I wanted red! Impossible to find tho. I’ve been drooling over the red 1985’s. There’s just something about these little trucks that so many ppl connect with. I’m hoping to keep mine till I am too old to press in the clutch.
Your right they don't break down however if you live in a cold weather area like PA, Ohio , or WV that has a winter then your frame WILL NOT LAST I bought two so far a 1998 that rusted and they did the right thing and bought it back and now my 09 that is a rusted POS just the frame and the frame only that was undercoated day one and garage kept and never taken off road has left a bad taste on Toyotas for me since this time they refuse to back their product and have no care if your in an accident due to the rusted frame that was obviously built out of cheap steel since it's the only rusted part on a less than 15 year old truck So i agree great trucks if you live in a desert area otherwise you'd be smarter to stay away from these trucks
late to the party, but, if you decide to close off the cab-facing window, consider doing a sliding window to line up with the sliding window of the cab so that you might use it for climate control, as in a portable AC unit.
Thank you, this is prob the route I will end up taking. I have been looking for a sliding window on marketplace and in the mean time I added an air condition unit to the bed rail.. will post an updated tour video soon.
Thats a real gem, nice work and concept.
Thank you! I made cushions and did some updates, will post a new tour video soon.
What an amazing build 👏 This is probably the only unit in the entire country like it; reliable 4x4 TRD = Go anywhere 🌎

I feel the same way with my 1993 Dodge W350 4x4 Cummins Turbo Diesel dually with a Manual Transmission. Simplicity is king!

Hi, I was curious who makes the camper? thanks
It’s a 1974 Six Pac camper.
Tour starts at 19 minutes
Thank you!
04 last year with manual transfercase. Is yours with auto 4wd button or regular manual shifter
I have the 4wd button on the 4wd shifter.

How tall is your camper, from the top of the truck bed sides to the top of the camper?
From the top of the rails it’s just about 4’

Oh man, that’s a bummer about the rust! Living here in Cali we don’t have those issues, thankfully.
Not just 7/8 strut...it's super strut
Thanks you!
I totally agree with you. Tacomas as the best trucks ever made
Facts.
got 312,000 miles out of my last F250
Holy smokes! That’s alot of miles!
Lol my yota has moved maybe less than 1k miles in 3 years
Haha

So low miles.. my 2001 got 385k. I put 65k on it in 3.5 years
Only 385k?! That’s BARELY broken in! Our trucks only get better with age. New tacos are too big, too many electronics and way way too expensive IMO.
Yeah. Until they come out w a new single cab om good
I’ve been eyeballing the 1985 on marketplace but they are super pricey and very hard to find. Maybe I’ll win the lottery and can buy one haha
