I wonder if Byrne colored the covers himself. Some of those colors I've never seen anywhere else. Alpha Flight #13 is, for my money, the best Wolverine cover of all time, slightly edging out X-Men 141 and Frank Miller's mini series. My wolverine is short, stout, middle aged, grumpy and wouldn't be caught dead in latex. but that's just me :) Byrne's Wolverine is the coolest Wolverine.
That's a good question! This series had a different palate than any other run. All of those covers stuck out (maybe that was the point). I agree with you about Wolverine. I think Frank Miller's take on the limited series is tied with Byrne's best interpretation. I couldn't pick a favorite. So good!!! THAT is EXACTLY the description of Wolverine I would use also! Byrne's Wolverine IS the coolest Wolverine (Silvestri's could be prettty bada$$ at times). All other versions were either imitating that look, or just getting in the way.
@@thecomicsamurai There seems to be fresh interest in Alpha Flight itself lately. It is the sort of group Disney likes to screw with and they do have a lot going for them. My real longshot is still Micronauts. What a slam dunk that will be when they get the logistical issues resolved. Some properties have heaps more potential in film than comics. Anyway ... I think the Alpha Flight was all Byrne design because he was obsessed with not making them the other X-men. They would have been better if he did, but hey. Byrne is nothing if not competent. Alpha Flight 13 might be his masterpiece. It really takes you there.
@@holyharlot5222 I haven't heard any buzz about Alpha Flight, but I'm out of the loop. I think it would make a great film if they approached it like they did with Guardians of the Galaxy. Has to be good casting and well written. Micronauts too! They should get Byrne and Golden involved respectively. All true what you wrote about Byrne and Alpha Flight. Issue 13 is one of the most underrated comics out there. I have always LOVED it and pick it up whenever I see it. I have probably given away 15 copies of it over the years. So good!!!
@@holyharlot5222 Ha! No, I did a team group shot video, but not extreme ensemble. Great idea! Of course, I'd have to throw Perez into the mix with Starlin and Byrne. Probably Bryan Hitch too. All right, now you got me thinking!!!
Thanks for this. I was expecting #3 was going to be an easy A but I guess it shows diversity in tastes :)
Glad you enjoyed! Yes, different strokes for different folks and all that. How boring would it be if we all liked the same thing! Thanks again!!!

Did you ever do a show on extreme ensemble covers? That would be an interesting Byrne v. Starlin head to head.
