    The focal length is my go to lens especially for run and gun! Currently using 16-55mm Sony it's definitely one of the best glass I've ever used but would definitely recommend the sigma with the huge price difference.

    I mustache you a question. Im thinking the a7iv is better for me than fx30 because I’d love to take fast action photos sometimes and the a7iv video is equally as good. That said, could a good setup be the a7iv the 18-50 for crop mode and then grab a 35mm for full frame for run and gun ? Any downsides ?

    I love the Sigma 18-50mm lens on my FX30. The footage looks amazing, especially when I shoot in S-Log3, XAVC-S 4K. I only use XAVC-I 4K when I'm shooting something with a green screen behind it.

    Great vid, awesome! I've used the Venice, FX9 and FX6 a lot when I work as a 1st AC and recently tried out the FX3 for a couple short films and was super impressed! When I heard about the FX30 I pulled the trigger on one and just bought this lens also, largely in part to your review! I'm really excited to try this thing out. I was wondering, I have a Tilta mini matte box (super light) and was wondering if you think this lens would be too weak to support it from the screw on clamp on ring. Is it really plastic-y, or is it a similar denseness to the Sigma 24-70 2.8 E mount FF lens? I've used that one a lot, it telescopes too, but it does a really good job of taking front weight. Anyways, thanks for a great FX30 vid! ---- PS - Rad stache

    • @TheAugusts
      @TheAugusts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much for watching! I'd say it's to weak to screw right on, but it'll work well if you use rod support :)

    I may have asked before...I have the FX30...I have a Sony 18-105mmf4...will this Sigma f2.8 be A LOT REALLY A LOT better in low light (like a wedding reception-but I always bring LED lights) to justify buying it to replace the Sony f4? I have the sigma 16 and 30mm f1.4 and I use them for the prep sessions and details but I can't change lenses during the ceremony for example...just making sure this f2.8 will be a significant improvement in low light over my current f4...I sure like your video. Thanks

    Hello. Can't decide which lens to choose for shooting video on Sony fx30
    sigma 18-50 or 28-70.? As I understand it, for the second one it will be necessary to buy another wide-angle lens, so that all the necessary distances would be hidden?

    • @TheAugusts
      @TheAugusts  ปีที่แล้ว

      18-50 is a better choice imo

  • @Tonellacam
    @Tonellacam ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey ! I had a full frame , but upgrading to the fx30 for the video ! Is this a true 18-50 or do I have to times by 1.5? I know the full frame lenses you have to do that , but some lenses are confusing !

    • @TheAugusts
      @TheAugusts  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You’ll have to do the math on each lens to get an accurate focal length

  • @markshirley01

    Isnt this lens a big red flag for gimbal work? Because it does extend when you zoom in?

    • @TheAugusts
      @TheAugusts  ปีที่แล้ว

      It wouldn't be that much. It's super light and most gimbals wouldn't have to be rebalanced after zooming in

    can anyone help me out? I have this lens and I use it with a 1/8 black pro mist. I would like to add a variable nd (probably going to buy the true colour nisi vnd) however I am not sure which size i should order? Does a 55mm filter fit on top of another 55mm filter? Why is this Sigma 18-50 better than the Tamron 17-70mm ?

    • @TheAugusts
      @TheAugusts  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Smaller, lighter, sharper, half the price, and no weird tint. Those are the reasons why I think the Sigma is better, but there are some nice traits of the Tamron as well

      No, the Sony E 18-105 f4 pz zoom is better, for video, and the fx30 is for video. Power zoom works well with the fx30 rocker and at 105mm at f4, plenty of good bokeh. The zoom does not extend the lens, so can be easily used on a gimbal without rebalancing at different focal lengths and permits zooming while on the gimbal. And, with the high dual ISO, f4 is good in low light. This is a lens made for video, the Sigma is not for all the above reasons.

    • @trip9600
      @trip9600 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheAugusts Another quick question - In your opinion how effective / important is the in lens image stabilization if you also have in camera stabilization for video? Does the in lens stabilization have a 'worth while' effect or if you have active in camera stabilization this is not as important or even redundant. I am trying to decide between Tamron 17-70 and this sigma.
