    I'm in my 70's and I travel light with Sony A6600 fitted with Sigma 16mm 1.4 wide lens and an extra Sony 24 1.8 Zeiss lens in a small Tamrac sling bag. I use prime wides for crisp and tack sharp photos for printing.

    I take the opposite philosophy with my APSC travel kit and lean in heavily on primes. The portability advantage of the 6000 series as well as how small APSC lenses are allow you pack a surprising number of primes.
    I usually take a 9mm Laowa, 16mm Sigma, 35mm Sony and the 18-105 Sony to fill any gaps and have a long zoom option if and when needed. They all fit neatly into the Hadley Small - with enough room left for a tablet/small laptop, battery pack, a full cleaning kit, a few spare batteries and even a rx100 for backup (or another small lens like the OG 16-50 kit lens).

    Thank you for your continued support to all APS-C camera owners/users. I own the Sigma 18-50 and Sigma 56mm, this video helped me decide to go for the Sony 11mm f1.8 than the 15mm f1.4; but will definitely try the 15mm f1.4 in the future. These small lightweight lenses from Sony and Sigma are answered prayers to APS-C owners!

    That’s the exact lineup I’m working towards.
    I got into Sony recently (leaving Canon ef-m, and Canon in general since their recent RF lens announcement) specifically for these lenses. I have started with the 70-350 lens since I didn’t have a telephoto yet.
    I also got the 18-105 f4 on a pretty cheap deal to cover my mid-range needs temporarily and to experiment.
    If my budget had allowed it, I’d have gotten the sigma 18-50 f2.8 instead. I’ll get it next for sure, and then definitely that lovely 11 f1.8.
    I might still keep the 18-105. I actually quite like filming with the smooth power-zoom, and it’s a very useful wide focal range; but one thing I have noticed annoys me more than anticipated, is its long minimum focusing distance…
    In any case I’m excited by the wide choice of quality glass at affordable prices in the E-mount system.

    ZV-E10 + 11mm 1.8 is my walkaround video camera. I put it on a Zhiyun Crane M2S for stability and take it off the gimbal when not needed. At least I have Catalyst Browse as a backup to stabilize the footage. The Sigma really is amazingly versatile and so much more compact than the Tamron 17-70 I was weighing against it in my decision process. The next one I’ll get is the Sony 11mm and then save up for the 70-350. Thanks!

I have a tenba slim backpack insert that it all fits in, so I can be fairly light and compact for motorcycle, hiking or international travel shooting. I just got back from Megaplex 2022 in orlando and I actually got the 11mm f1.8 the day before the con. I used that lens sooo much during the con from quick shots of fursuiters to using it in the parade as a fursuiter to filming a panel with my camera being up front so more people could fit in the room. I rock a 16-50mm pz oss kit lens with 55-210mm oss telephoto and the 11m f1.8 with my white ZV-E10. I know I will get more use out of the 11m when halloween starts up in the themeparks cause it will be great for using in the haunted houses. Finally keep up the great work for providing us aspc users with this helpful info.

    I have an a6500 with the SEL70350. Great lens except for one issue. When I go birding it tends to back focus above 250mm. Unfortunately, you can't just DMF and make the minor correction, even with MF Assist zoom the EVF doesn't have enough resolution to tell if it is back focused and the focus peaking has to large a range with f4.8 to tell if it actually hit focus or not. Maybe with a very bright high res external monitor you could tell... but Sony could just firmware update to include animal eye auto focus, cause this doesn't seem to be an issue for a6600 users. Of course they intend we just buy an a6600. Love the camera and lens otherwise and I have a beanbag to use for really long shots. Thanks Jason, good review, I use a 7artisan manual 25mm f1.8 when I want the wide aperture near 50mm equivalent for the reasons you mentioned!

Have the Sigma 18-50/2.8 and just got a Sony 70-350/4.5-6.3 both in mint used condition. Also did get a Sony 15/1.5 G because 11/1.8 is too wide for me as a prime and will use this more. Also pre-ordered the new Sigma 10-18/2.8 to pair with its mid focal range brother. Did pick up some of the other Sigma DC DN Contemporary primes for special usage but probably won’t travel with them. Great supplement to my full frame kit.

    I have the SAL70300G (4.5 - 5.6), that I use on my NEX7 with a E to A mount adapter. It works great for outdoor shots. It does not have OSS, but you will not be using something like that for video, so with a good tripod, you'll be fine. But the SEL70350G, which is a newer lens with OSS, is a better option for sure. Then again, I bought my camera setup like 10 years ago, so for the time, the SAL70300G, was a really good lens.

    Hi Jason, excellent video! I think that, in the case of apsc, portability is the name of the game. Recently I've been traveling with the sony 18-135 for general purpose (lens very sharp and a very wide zoom range); Tamron 11-20 for wide shots and the Sigma 30mm or 56mm f1.4 for low light. All 3 lenses are very small and sharp.

    • @jiriVFX
      @jiriVFX 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes! I am using the 18-135mm all the time, I think it is the most versatile APS-C travel lens, both wide enough for landscapes and with enough reach for some long-distance shots.

    Today i would swap the Sony 11 F1.8 for the Sigma 10-18 F2.8 and the Sigma 18-50 F2.8 for the Tamron 17-70 F2.8. Yes, the sony 11 is sharper and has faster aperture than the Sigma 10-18, but you are covering more wide angle range wich is extremely versatile. Only having 11 mm is a bit restricting. And yes, the Tamron 17-70 is bigger, heavier and little bit more expensive than the Sigma 18-50, but it has more zoom-range on both ends, fills the gap between 50-70mm and has image stabilisation, wich is a big deal, especially on all the Sony APSC cameras without IBIS. Also i feel the Tamron is a bit sharper than the Sigma but that might be only my subjective feeling (tested both). Nothing wrong with 70-350 though, best Tele-Lens on APSC.

    I would change out the signa 16-50mm for the tamron 17-70mm because of the longer reach but also because of the built in stabilization 👍 also... I would trade out the wide prime for a wide zoom. Mostly for the Sony 10-18mm f4 OSS.... This way i would have covered 10mm all the way up to 350mm with stabilization. And no gapes in the range 👍🙂

      Don't buy the kit lens.. it's a complete waste..use that money to buy a better lense with OSS. Best is to buy Sony A7IV, most suitable for photography if your budget permits. ZVE10 is a Vlog camera.

    I use an a6000 and 55-210mm kit sony lens and I just can't auto focus, it will only sharpen lets say the eye of the bird and none of the feathers. I also as a result manual focus and lose my shot half the time as bird has flown away. How is the a6400 with the 70-350mm focus and the sharpess of getting the whole body of a bird?

  • @jhirse3547
    @jhirse3547 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My kit soon will be the Sony 11, the Sigma 18-50, and the good old Sony 55-210. I'm replacing the manual Samyang 12 with the Sony 11, and the Sony 70-350 with the 55-210, cost-neutral fortunately. Why will I do this, especially with the tele zooms: the 70-350 is a really big piece that I use very rarely. So I prefer having the compactness of the 55-210 over the image quality plus of the 70-350...

    Very informative video! I currently own an a6100 with the sigma 56mm and I am looking for a telephoto lens for landscape/a bit of casual wildlife if I ever happen to see one… The Sony 70-200 GM is just insanely over my budget. Comparing between the 70-350g and the 70-200 f4 version, which one would you recommend since they are selling at very similar prices here…

      If you plan on going FF, get the 70200 F4 now. But if not, the 70-350 is really solid. You get much farther distance for the lens at a smaller size and weight !
